Milf Acquisition System

Chapter 28: Paper Guillotine

  • Next Chapter

The executive suite at Vertex Management was freezing.

Victoria Sterling stood by the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the financial district. She wore a tailored charcoal suit and held a silver pen in her hand.

She turned around as Lucas walked into the office and dropped a thick black folder onto her mahogany desk. The heavy thud echoed in the quiet room.

"The expansion files," Victoria said.

Lucas stepped forward and picked up the heavy folder. He opened the cover. The pages were filled with complex zoning legalities and projected profit margins for a massive commercial development.

"My legal team finished drafting the trap last night," Victoria explained while walking toward him. "The profit margins are artificially inflated to look like the most lucrative deal of the decade. Camilla will think she is stealing the crown jewel of my portfolio."

Lucas flipped to the middle of the document. "And the poison?"

"Page forty-seven," Victoria stated. "There is a hidden liability clause buried in the environmental compliance section.

The moment she signs the letter of intent her firm becomes legally responsible for a toxic waste cleanup that does not actually exist yet. I will trigger a regulatory default by the end of the month.

Vertex Management will seize her real estate assets to cover the damages."

Lucas kept his face neutral but his stomach twisted.

Victoria was not just trying to win a corporate rivalry. She was preparing to dismantle Camilla Verman’s five hundred million dollar empire and strip her down to the studs. The founder of Vertex Management played a ruthless game and she expected her loyal spy to deliver the final blow.

"Take the files to her," Victoria ordered softly. She reached out and adjusted the lapel of his suit. "Tell her you copied them from my secure server. Make sure she signs the final page. When you bring that signature back to me your career will be set for life."

"I will get it done," Lucas promised.

He walked out of the executive suite and rode the private elevator down to the lobby. The morning sun was bright but the autumn wind carried a sharp chill. He did not head straight to Camilla’s office. He walked three blocks down the street and ducked into a quiet luxury coffee shop.

He ordered a black coffee and sat in a secluded corner booth. He placed the black folder on the table.

He had a choice to make. He could deliver the files and destroy the woman he got control of in the empty skyscraper. Or he could throw the files in the trash and watch Victoria rain legal hellfire down on his forged identity.

He mentally opened the System interface. He had twenty-three hundred Acquisition Points sitting in his bank. He needed a third option.

He scrolled through the Skill Shop and bypassed the physical and social enhancements. He needed a weapon designed for corporate warfare.

[Corporate Espionage Forgery (Level 1) - Cost: 1200 AP]

[Description: Grants the Host master-level comprehension of predatory legal syntax and the physical ability to alter binding documents without leaving a trace.]

Lucas purchased the skill.

A sharp pressure built behind his eyes before fading into cold clarity. He opened the black folder and read page forty-seven.

The legal jargon that used to look like a foreign language suddenly made perfect sense. He saw the exact mechanism Victoria had built to siphon Camilla’s wealth.

He also saw the fatal flaw.

The liability clause redirected Camilla’s seized assets into a specific holding account controlled by Vertex Management. If Lucas changed the routing numbers of that holding account he could redirect the blast zone.

He pulled a black pen from his pocket. His new System skill guided his hand.

He carefully altered a sequence of numbers in the dense block of text on page forty-seven.

He changed the Vertex Management account numbers to match the hidden offshore trust whose account details he had glimpsed on Camilla’s private tablet one night, when she checked her balances in bed beside him and never thought to tilt the screen away.

He capped his pen and let out a slow breath.

The trap was still live. But when Victoria triggered the regulatory default next month she would not absorb Camilla’s empire.

The contract would legally force Vertex Management to pay the massive penalty directly into Camilla’s offshore trust. Victoria was going to accidentally fund her rival’s retirement.

Lucas closed the folder and finished his coffee. He walked out of the shop and hailed a taxi to the headquarters of Verman Development.

Camilla’s corporate office was a sprawling modern space filled with glass walls and frantic architects. Her assistant immediately waved Lucas through the security doors without asking for his name. He was no longer a stranger. He was the boss’s partner.

Lucas pushed open the heavy glass doors to her private office.

Camilla sat behind a massive white marble desk. She wore a sleek dark green dress and was reviewing a set of blueprints. She looked up when the door opened.

The stern professional mask she wore for her staff vanished the moment she saw him.

A warm possessive smile touched her red lips. The memory of the empty skyscraper was still fresh in her piercing green eyes.

"You did not call this morning," Camilla murmured. She pushed the blueprints aside and leaned back in her leather chair. "I was starting to think you decided to sleep in."

"I was running an errand," Lucas said as he walked across the room.

He placed the black folder on her marble desk.

Camilla looked at the folder and then up at him. "What is this?"

"The expansion files," Lucas stated. He kept his voice steady and maintained unbroken eye contact. "I pulled them from Victoria’s secure server an hour ago. It is the full zoning agreement for the financial district."

Camilla stopped breathing for a fraction of a second. She reached out and rested her hand on the black cover. She did not open it immediately. She stared at him with a mixture of awe and heavy hunger.

She believed he had just committed corporate treason to hand her the ultimate victory.

"You stole her crown jewel," Camilla whispered.

"I told you I acquire leverage," Lucas replied. "If you sign the letter of intent at the back you can preempt her board and lock in the acquisition before she even knows the files are missing."

Camilla opened the folder. She flipped past the dense legal pages and went straight to the signature line at the back.

She did not read the liability section on page forty-seven. She did not summon her legal team to review the fine print.

Her Micro-Motive data flared bright blue in his vision. She was operating on absolute trust.

He had dismantled her paranoia over the weekend and now she believed he would never hand her a poisoned blade.

She picked up her gold pen and signed her name with a sweeping elegant script.

Lucas felt a sudden weight settle in his chest. He had just manipulated the woman who trusted him into signing a forged document but he had also saved her from losing her entire life’s work.

She closed the folder and pushed it back across the desk.

"Take that to my acquisitions director down the hall," Camilla instructed softly. "Have him file it with the city immediately."

"I will handle it," Lucas said as he picked up the folder.

Camilla stood up and walked around her marble desk. She stepped into his personal space and rested her hands flat against his chest. She looked up at him with a heavy hooded gaze that promised a repeat of their weekend together.

"When this deal clears the press is going to lose their minds," Camilla murmured. She dragged a manicured nail lightly down his tie. "Victoria is going to be humiliated. And I am going to buy you a very expensive dinner to celebrate."

"I look forward to it," Lucas replied.

His cracked smartphone suddenly vibrated in his jacket pocket.

Lucas pulled it out. The caller ID displayed Victoria Sterling.

Camilla glanced at the screen. A wicked victorious smile spread across her face. She thought Victoria was calling to beg him to come back. She did not know Victoria was calling to confirm the trap had been sprung.

"Answer it," Camilla whispered. She reached up and tangled her fingers into the hair at the nape of his neck. "Let her hear my voice in the background."

Lucas stared at the ringing phone. He was standing in the enemy headquarters holding a forged contract while his actual boss called to demand an update.

He swiped the green icon and brought the phone to his ear.

"Ms. Sterling," Lucas answered.

"Is the signature secured?" Victoria whispered into his ear from the phone. Her voice was sharp and laced with eager anticipation.

Lucas held Camilla’s gaze. He let a cold edge slide into his voice. "It is done, Victoria. You should have protected your server better. Do not call me again."

Silence hung on the line for a heartbeat.

Then Victoria let out a soft, knowing laugh. She was a master strategist. She understood exactly what that performance meant.

"She is standing right next to you," Victoria murmured. "Good. Keep playing the part. Come back to Vertex Management as soon as you can slip away. We have to prepare for the fallout."

The line clicked dead.

Lucas lowered the phone. Camilla was watching him with a predatory smirk. She believed he had just dismissed his former boss with cold efficiency.

She leaned forward and pressed a soft lingering kiss against his jaw.

"Go deliver the folder," Camilla murmured against his skin. "Then come back and lock my door."

Lucas stepped out of her office with the black folder under his arm. He had successfully navigated the collision between the two tycoons.

Victoria thought she won. Camilla thought she won.

A bright red notification suddenly shattered the air in the quiet corporate hallway.

[Warning: Unforeseen Variable Detected.]

[The forged routing numbers on page forty-seven have triggered an automated banking alert.]

[An external third party is currently investigating the offshore trust.]

[Status: Your forged identity is now under active surveillance.]

Lucas stopped walking. His blood ran cold.

He had saved Camilla and outsmarted Victoria but his System manipulation had just drawn the attention of an unknown threat.
