Chapter 27: Midnight Call

  • Next Chapter

The empty skyscraper was entirely silent.

Hours had passed since they first tore off their clothes in the living room.

The crisp white linens of the staged king-sized bed were now a tangled, ruined mess.

The ambient glow of the skyline cast long, shifting shadows across the room as the night deepened into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Lucas sat on the edge of the mattress with his feet resting flat on the hardwood floor.

He was exhausted, but his blood was still humming with adrenaline.

Camilla knelt on the floor between his legs.

She was completely bare. Her emerald silk gown lay somewhere in the living room, and her black lace lingerie was scattered across the bedroom floor.

Her dark hair cascaded over her bare shoulders, messy and wild.

She looked up at him through her eyelashes, her chest rising and falling in steady, contented breaths.

The ruthless real estate developer had surrendered every ounce of her corporate armor.

The woman who spent her life dictating terms to aggressive investors was currently basking in the quiet aftermath of letting someone else take total control.

Lucas reached out and gently tangled his fingers into her dark hair.

He did not pull hard. He applied a firm, guiding pressure, communicating exactly what he wanted without speaking a word.

Camilla let out a soft, eager hum.

A willing smile touched the corners of her lips. She leaned forward and lowered her head into his lap.

She took him into her mouth, letting the slick heat of her tongue trace over him.

She was cleaning him up, but her movements quickly shifted into a slow, deliberate rhythm meant to pull him right back to the edge.

Lucas let his head fall back and stared at the dark ceiling. A heavy groan vibrated in his chest.

He used his Erogenous Mapping skill in reverse, reading the subtle shifts in her posture. She was enjoying this.

She loved the feeling of being directed.

The sheer relief of dropping her dominant facade and kneeling for a man she trusted was a psychological high she could not get in any boardroom.

He tightened his grip in her hair just slightly, dictating the pace. Camilla obeyed instantly, adjusting her rhythm to match his silent command. She took him deeper, swallowing his quiet groans and replacing them with the wet, rhythmic sound of her mouth.

A sharp, digital ringtone suddenly pierced the quiet room.

Lucas opened his eyes. The sound was coming from his discarded charcoal trousers resting on the floor a few feet away.

It was not Camilla’s custom corporate ringtone. It was his standard default ringtone.

He glanced at the digital clock glowing on the bedside table. It was three in the morning.

Nobody from Vertex Management would be calling him on his personal number at this hour.

He reached down and pulled the cracked smartphone from his trouser pocket.

The caller ID displayed a name he completely did not expect: Evelyn Higgins.

Lucas frowned. His landlady was calling him in the middle of the night. His mind immediately jumped to the worst conclusions.

A broken pipe. A fire in the building. An eviction notice.

He pressed the green icon and brought the phone to his ear.

"Hello?" Lucas answered.

He used his Somatic Composure to keep his voice perfectly even, masking the intense physical pleasure currently radiating through his lower half.

Camilla did not stop.

She paused for a fraction of a second when she heard him speak, but then a wicked, playful gleam entered her green eyes.

She looked up at him, realizing he was trapped on a phone call. She decided to test his composure. She swirled her tongue around the sensitive ridge and sucked down hard.

Lucas gritted his teeth and clamped his free hand onto the edge of the mattress to keep from cursing out loud.

"Lucas?" Evelyn’s voice came through the speaker. She sounded hesitant and painfully awkward. "I am so sorry to call you this late. Did I wake you?"

"No," Lucas managed to say. His voice was slightly strained. "I’m awake. Is everything alright at the building?"

"The building is fine," Evelyn murmured. She let out a heavy, tired sigh that crackled through the phone’s speaker. "I just... I couldn’t sleep."

Lucas looked down. Camilla was gazing up at him while maintaining a grueling, expert rhythm.

Her lips were wrapped tightly around him, and her hands rested on his thighs to anchor herself. She was purposely trying to make him break character.

"What’s wrong, Evelyn?" Lucas asked, forcing his breathing to remain steady.

"I was thinking about the other night," Evelyn admitted. Her voice dropped to a quiet, guilty whisper. "When you were here. On the couch."

Lucas froze. He had to compartmentalize the surreal nature of the moment.

He was sitting in a fifty-million-dollar staged penthouse, receiving absolute devotion from a real estate tycoon, while his strict, forty-six-year-old landlady was calling to talk about their secret hookup on her basement floor.

"I feel terrible about how I acted," Evelyn continued. Her deep loneliness bled through the phone line.

"I was harsh. I made you feel like you did something wrong, and that wasn’t fair.

I let myself get carried away because... well, because it has been a very long time for me.

And then I panicked when that woman called you."

Camilla hummed against his skin, increasing her pace.

The friction was agonizingly perfect. Lucas arched his lower back, fighting the intense urge to push his hips upward.

"You don’t have to apologize," Lucas said, his voice dropping an octave as he fought to suppress a groan. "You set a boundary. I respect that."

"I know," Evelyn said softly. "But it was my own fault. I felt cheap, but you didn’t treat me that way. You were kind. I just wanted to call and say I’m sorry for snapping at you. I don’t want things to be weird when you come back to the building."

"Things are not weird," Lucas promised.

He let his thumb brush against Camilla’s cheek, silently praising her while he spoke to the woman on the phone. "We’re good, Evelyn. Try to get some sleep."

"Thank you, Lucas," Evelyn whispered, the heavy guilt finally lifting from her voice. "Goodnight."

The line clicked dead.

Lucas tossed the smartphone onto the floor.

Camilla immediately slowed her rhythm. She pulled back just enough to look at him. Her lips were shiny and parted.

She offered a silent, questioning look, her green eyes filled with a mixture of curiosity and possessive heat.

She wanted to know who had the audacity to interrupt her time with him.

Lucas let out a ragged breath and tangled both of his hands into her dark hair.

"It was just my landlady," Lucas murmured, answering the unasked question. "She had a question about the lease. It is nothing you need to worry about."

Camilla searched his face for a second. The blue overlay of his Micro-Motive Perception confirmed she accepted the lie completely.

A landlord issue was beneath her notice. She smiled, satisfied that she still had his undivided attention.

"Good," Camilla whispered against his skin.

She leaned back down and swallowed him deep.

Lucas completely abandoned his Somatic Composure. He let the raw sensation take over.

He guided her head with a firm grip, dictating a rapid, desperate pace that she eagerly matched.

The contrast between the mundane phone call he just finished and the intense physical reality of the penthouse pushed him over the edge.

"Camilla," Lucas warned, his voice breaking.

She did not pull away. She stayed firmly planted on her knees, her hands gripping his thighs tight as he thrust forward and released.

He finished entirely in her mouth.

She took every drop, her throat working as she swallowed him down.

She lingered for a few seconds, swirling her tongue to clean him completely before she finally pulled back.

She wiped the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand and looked up at him. Her green eyes were glowing with absolute triumph.

A bright blue notification window shattered the air between them.

[Target Conquest Complete!]

[Camilla Verman’s physical loyalty has reached maximum threshold.]

[Loyalty Tier Upgraded: Dependent Partner -> Conquered Asset.]

[Reward: 1000 AP awarded.]

[Current AP Balance: 2300.]

Lucas stared at the massive point payout.

He had completely dismantled the defenses of a ruthless real estate magnate.

She belonged to him now, firmly caught in a web of his own creation.

But as Camilla crawled up his body to rest her head against his chest, Lucas knew the war was far from over.

Victoria Sterling’s poisoned zoning files were waiting for him on Monday morning.

He had successfully secured Camilla’s trust, which meant she would sign whatever documents he put in front of her.

He was going to have to decide whether to execute Victoria’s trap and destroy the woman currently sleeping in his arms, or betray the founder of Vertex Management and risk losing everything.
