Maybe My Soulmate! (GL)
Chapter 323: Conclusion 5.
"Definitely."
Su Yubing kissed her cheek.
"Sleep."
"Only if you stay close."
"I am already here."
"Closer."
Su Yubing moved closer.
"Happy?"
Mo Yuxin nodded.
"Very."
The seventh day of travel began with rain.
Not ordinary rain.
Spiritual rain.
Every drop carried a tiny amount of spiritual energy, and when it struck the ground, small flowers appeared.
The road became slippery.
The caravan had to slow down.
Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing walked beneath a large umbrella formation that Su Yubing had created.
Mo Yuxin insisted on holding the umbrella.
Su Yubing said she could do it herself.
Mo Yuxin refused.
"You might get wet."
"The barrier protects me."
"Still."
"You are stubborn."
"Yes."
They continued through the rain.
Near noon, they saw an abandoned inn.
The sign said Falling Rain Inn.
The caravan decided to stop there until the storm passed.
The inn looked old but clean.
There were twelve rooms and a large dining hall.
The owner was a quiet middle-aged man who served hot soup without asking too many questions.
It was exactly the kind of place that usually became the setting of some ridiculous cultivation incident.
Mo Yuxin knew this.
She still booked a room.
Su Yubing noticed her expression.
"You know something is going to happen."
"Almost certainly."
"Then why did you book the room?"
"Because I want to sleep in a bed."
Su Yubing smiled.
"Fair."
Three hours later, nothing happened.
Five hours later, still nothing.
The rain kept falling.
They had dinner.
They played a simple tile game that one of the merchants taught them.
Mo Yuxin lost three times.
Su Yubing laughed at her.
"You are terrible."
"The game is strange."
"It is simple."
"I do not trust games where you can lose because you draw the wrong tile."
"That is literally how the game works."
Mo Yuxin looked offended.
"Bad design."
Everyone at the table laughed.
Just after midnight, someone screamed.
Mo Yuxin opened her eyes.
Su Yubing was already awake.
"Finally," Su Yubing whispered.
Mo Yuxin laughed.
They left the room.
The innkeeper stood in the hallway looking terrified.
One of the rooms at the far end was glowing red.
Qin Lian and several guards had drawn weapons.
The door exploded.
A man in black robes stepped out.
Blood covered his face.
He looked at Mo Yuxin.
Then at Su Yubing.
His eyes widened.
"You two."
Mo Yuxin sighed.
"Why is everyone recognizing us lately?"
The man attacked.
His body turned into a streak of black light.
His cultivation was at the middle Nascent Soul realm.
For ordinary cultivators, he would have been extremely dangerous.
Mo Yuxin simply moved her hand.
The black light stopped.
The man hung in the air.
Su Yubing walked closer.
"Who sent you?"
He clenched his teeth.
"I will not tell you."
Mo Yuxin looked at Su Yubing.
Su Yubing shrugged.
"Then let him go."
Mo Yuxin released him.
The man hit the floor.
He stared at them.
"Why?"
Su Yubing answered, "You clearly are not important enough to be worth interrogating."
Qin Lian nearly coughed.
The man looked deeply offended.
He tried to attack again.
This time Su Yubing raised her hand.
A soft golden light spread through the corridor.
The man’s cultivation was sealed instantly.
He fell unconscious.
Mo Yuxin looked at her wife with admiration.
"Beautiful."
Su Yubing gave her a look.
"You are flirting in front of everyone again."
"I am married to you."
"That does not mean you need to flirt all the time."
"Why not?"
Qin Lian quietly turned away.
The other guards suddenly found the ceiling extremely interesting.
The mysterious man turned out to have been part of a small band of thieves who had been targeting merchant caravans along the road. They were not connected to any major organization. They had simply chosen the inn because they thought the caravan was carrying valuable spirit herbs.
Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing had accidentally ruined their night.
Again.
The next morning, the rain stopped.
The mountains were covered in mist.
The entire road smelled fresh.
A rainbow appeared over the valley.
Su Yubing stood at the road’s edge and looked at it.
Mo Yuxin stood beside her.
"Pretty."
"Yes."
Mo Yuxin looked at Su Yubing instead.
"Very."
Su Yubing knew exactly what she meant.
She smiled and nudged her shoulder.
"Stop."
"No."
"People are watching."
"Let them."
Su Yubing sighed.
"You are impossible."
"And you are beautiful."
Su Yubing shook her head, smiling.
The road toward Thousand Dao City continued.
But the landscape was beginning to change more quickly now.
The small towns became larger.
The roads were paved with spiritual stone.
Signposts appeared every few kilometers.
Merchants began using flying ships more often.
There were even floating roads in the sky, made from giant formation platforms that connected one mountain peak to another.
The Southern Continent’s central region was wealthier than everything they had seen before.
It was not because every person was rich.
It was because cultivation resources moved constantly through the region.
A merchant from the western desert could sell spirit salt to a sect from the north.
A beast clan could trade eggs for medicinal herbs.
An alchemist could buy rare flowers from the south and sell pills to cultivators in the center.
Everything moved toward Thousand Dao City.
The city was not merely the center of cultivation.
It was the center of trade.
Information.
Techniques.
Weapons.
People.
Rumors.
Opportunities.
And trouble.
Especially trouble.
Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing would soon discover that last part for themselves.
But for the moment, the road remained peaceful.
They traveled beside the White River Merchant Caravan for another two days.
During that time, Su Yubing discovered that Mo Yuxin had a habit of buying useless things.
The first was a little wooden carving of a cat.
The second was a packet of candied spirit fruit.
The third was a tiny bell that made no sound.
The fourth was a smooth white stone that Mo Yuxin claimed looked nice.
