"No."

"Not even a little?"

"No."

"What if I walk around the city all day?"

"I’ll walk with you."

"What if I want to shop for eight hours?"

"I’ll carry the bags."

"What if I want to sit here until midnight?"

"I’ll sit here too."

Su Yubing smiled.

"And what if I don’t want to do anything?"

Mo Yuxin looked at her.

"Then I’ll stay beside you and do nothing."

Su Yubing became quiet.

She reached across the table and took Mo Yuxin’s hand.

"Good."

The Prime City festival finally arrived.

The entire city changed overnight.

Lanterns were hung across the streets.

Sword platforms were built in the central plaza.

Merchant families opened private markets.

Sect disciples flooded the city.

Hundreds of flying ships arrived from every direction.

Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing joined the crowd.

They were completely ordinary in the middle of thousands of cultivators.

That was exactly what they wanted.

The first event was a sword demonstration by the Tang Sword Sect.

One of the leading disciples stepped onto the stage.

His sword technique was beautiful.

Fast.

Sharp.

Controlled.

The crowd applauded.

Mo Yuxin watched silently.

Su Yubing glanced at her.

"Don’t criticize."

"I wasn’t going to."

"You were thinking about it."

"A little."

Su Yubing smiled.

Then the disciple performed the final move.

Mo Yuxin nodded.

"That was good."

Su Yubing smiled with satisfaction.

"See? You can be nice."

"I learned from you."

The rest of the festival was even more enjoyable.

There was an alchemy contest.

Mo Yuxin did not participate.

She did, however, quietly tell Su Yubing that the winning pill was made incorrectly.

Su Yubing told her to stop judging people.

There was an artifact contest.

Again, Mo Yuxin did not participate.

She bought a small wooden carving of two birds because Su Yubing liked it.

There was a beast-taming competition.

The little girl watched with wide eyes.

She wanted to touch one of the small spirit foxes.

Su Yubing took her by the hand and brought her closer.

Mo Yuxin followed.

For most of the afternoon, they simply enjoyed themselves.

No ancient voice called their names.

No gate opened.

No city descended into the earth.

No giant eye appeared.

Nothing happened.

It was wonderful.

At sunset, they walked toward the river district.

The entire city was lit by lanterns.

Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing walked slowly.

Their hands were joined.

The little girl walked between them.

For the first time since their journey began, there was no mystery waiting around the next corner.

There was only the road.

And people.

And food.

And the quiet happiness of being together.

Su Yubing looked up at the lights.

"I like this city."

Mo Yuxin nodded.

"Me too."

"Do you want to stay?"

Mo Yuxin looked at the Tang Sword Mountain in the distance.

The enormous sword on its peak glowed faintly under the sunset.

"For a while."

Su Yubing smiled.

"Good."

They continued walking.

Then, from above the city, a powerful sword aura suddenly spread across the sky.

Everyone stopped.

The lanterns went still.

A Tang Sword Sect elder flew onto the city wall.

His expression was serious.

He looked toward Tang Sword Mountain.

The Southern Heaven Sword had moved.

Not much.

Only an inch.

But the entire Prime City had felt it.

The elder shouted, "All cultivators remain where they are."

The crowd became restless.

Mo Yuxin looked at Su Yubing.

Su Yubing looked back.

"We were doing so well."

Mo Yuxin sighed.

"We were."

The little girl looked up.

"Is the sword broken?"

Mo Yuxin shook her head.

"No."

"Then why did it move?"

Mo Yuxin looked toward the mountain.

"It moved because someone touched it."

Su Yubing’s expression sharpened.

"Who?"

Mo Yuxin closed her eyes for a moment.

Her spiritual sense spread across the city.

She found a single figure climbing Tang Sword Mountain.

A woman.

Young.

Wearing ordinary gray robes.

Her cultivation was only at Core Formation.

Yet the Southern Heaven Sword was responding to her.

Mo Yuxin opened her eyes.

"Interesting."

Su Yubing sighed.

"Of course."

Mo Yuxin smiled.

"This one might actually be worth watching."

The woman reached the base of the ancient sword.

She placed one hand against the stone.

The sword trembled.

The Tang Sword Sect elders surrounded the mountain.

No one understood what was happening.

Then the woman looked up.

Her eyes moved across the enormous city.

For a moment, they stopped exactly where Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing were standing.

She could not possibly see them from that distance.

But she smiled anyway.

Then she said something that carried across the entire mountain.

"I finally found you."

Su Yubing’s smile disappeared.

Mo Yuxin’s expression became calm.

The little girl took Su Yubing’s hand.

The ancient sword began to ring.

Once.

Twice.

Then three times.

The entire Tang Sword Mountain lit up.

But there was no ancient gate.

No mysterious world.

No giant eye.

Instead, the Southern Heaven Sword simply rose from the mountain by a few inches, revealing an old stone stairway beneath it.

The Tang Sword Sect elders stared.

The gray-robed woman started walking down the stairs.

Mo Yuxin watched her carefully.

Then she smiled.

"At least this time, the mystery has a normal door."

Su Yubing gave her a look.

"Don’t touch it."

Mo Yuxin nodded.

"I won’t."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

The woman reached the bottom of the stairs.

She looked directly at them again.

Then she raised one hand.

A simple sword token appeared in her palm.

The Tang Sword Sect elder’s face changed.

"That token belongs to the main sect in the Central Continent."

The city fell silent.

The woman’s voice carried across the entire plaza.

"I bring a message from the main Tang Sect."

Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing looked at each other.

The woman continued.

"The Prime City has been summoned to the Central Continent."

The elders stared.

"The reason is simple."

She turned toward the sky.

"A grand gathering of the five great sects is about to begin."

Mo Yuxin was quiet.

Su Yubing gently squeezed her hand.
