Chapter 359: It’s Not Too Late to Come Back to Me

  • Next Chapter

"I understand."

Mr. Yorke said, "I called him Ethan Linden today, and he already spoke to me about it! He asked me to call him Nathan Fawcett from now on."

Anna Linden glanced at Nathan Fawcett, her expression complicated.

Anne Sutton hadn’t expected it either. Nathan Fawcett was so adamant that he was completely unwilling to use the name Ethan Linden anymore.

Mr. Yorke said to Anna Linden, "But it doesn’t matter what he calls himself, I still like him. I’ve always considered him a friend."

Even though he was Anna Linden’s son and much younger than him, he didn’t mind.

He said to Nathan Fawcett, "Since there’s no place for you in the Linden Family anymore, why don’t you come work at our family’s company? I’ll have Faye Yorke’s father arrange a position for you."

Nathan Fawcett said, "That’s not necessary. I want to take a break and spend more time with my child."

"Well, if you ever need anything, just contact me anytime."

He was clearly offering to back Nathan Fawcett up.

Anna Linden hadn’t expected her own teacher to be so fond of Nathan Fawcett.

’From the sound of it, he even wants to arrange a job for him?’

...

After dinner at the Yorke residence, they all left together.

Anne Sutton looked at Anna Linden and said, "Dr. Linden, I’ll be heading back with them now."

Anna Linden stood in front of Anne Sutton, but her eyes were fixed on Nathan Fawcett.

Seeing her stare, Anne Sutton asked, "Do you have something you want to say to Nathan Fawcett?"

"What could I possibly have to say to him?" Anna Linden said. "He came here today just to slap me in the face!"

He was letting everyone know that she didn’t acknowledge him, only Ethan Linden.

And letting people know that she was the one who drove him out of the company.

Anne Sutton said, "I don’t think that was his intention."

Anna Linden said, "I think he did it on purpose!"

With that, Anna Linden got into her car.

Only after she saw her leave did Anne Sutton walk back to Nathan Fawcett.

Nathan Fawcett was holding Ian. Seeing Anne Sutton approach, Ian, who was in his arms, said, "Mommy."

Anne Sutton said, "Alright, let’s go home."

Nathan Fawcett drove.

Anne Sutton sat in the passenger seat, looked at him, and asked, "Are you really not going to consider the company Mr. Yorke offered to introduce you to?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "It’s not like I can’t find a job. He said it was his birthday and asked me to come over and play a couple of games of chess, so I went. I didn’t go there for him to find me a job."

Anne Sutton said, "I didn’t realize you were so popular."

Nathan Fawcett’s lips curved into a slight smile. "It’s alright. We don’t have much of a connection beyond chess."

"I didn’t know you played chess."

"...I taught Charles Prescott how to play."

"..." Anne Sutton was a little surprised. "Really?"

"I was sick back then and bored. Stuck at home all day, I had to find some trivial things to pass the time. It’s not that difficult."

’I just didn’t expect it would come in handy now.’

Anne Sutton said, "Okay. By the way, there’s something else. When I was leaving this morning, Caleb Summers was standing at our door. It seemed like he was looking for you, but when I asked what it was about, he wouldn’t say and just left."

Nathan Fawcett said, "What could he possibly want with me?"

"Could it be about the company?" Anne Sutton asked. "I saw Noah Linden go to the hospital to see your mom today. He said there were some company matters he wanted to handle."

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett chuckled. "Forget it. Let them deal with it. The company’s business has nothing to do with me now. It’s not my place to interfere."

"That’s true!" Anne Sutton said. "Your mother doesn’t like you. It’s better for you to leave than to live on edge, worrying about when she might kick you out."

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her, reached out, and took her hand. "As long as you’re by my side, I don’t care about anything else."

Anne Sutton looked at the man, a smile playing on her lips. "Looks like I’ll have to work hard to support you from now on."

Nathan Fawcett smiled. "I’ll be counting on you, Ms. Sutton!"

When the two arrived home, they saw Caleb Summers at the door.

Anne Sutton got out of the car, glanced at him, and said, "Why aren’t you at home? What are you doing standing guard at my door?"

"I need to talk to Ethan Linden about something."

’It’s humiliating, but he had no other choice right now!’

Nathan Fawcett parked the car, lifted Ian out, and glanced at Caleb Summers. "Call me Nathan Fawcett from now on."

He really disliked it when people called him Ethan Linden. He always felt it was disrespectful to him, and also disrespectful to Ethan Linden.

Caleb Summers looked at him and said, "I came to ask you about some company matters."

’He didn’t want to come to him, but right now, he didn’t know who else to turn to.’

Nathan Fawcett said, "Let’s talk inside."

Caleb Summers followed them through the door.

Anne Sutton took Ian to bed first.

Nathan Fawcett and Caleb Summers sat on the living room sofa.

Caleb Summers said, "It’s about the Thorne Family again. Their company is in big trouble. They can’t pay back the loan they took out. What are we supposed to do? It’s so much money! Noah Linden went to press them for payment today, and President Thorne said he was being driven to jump off a building."

Nathan Fawcett looked at Caleb Summers and said, "My mother has already forbidden me from managing company affairs."

Caleb Summers said, "So you’re just going to wash your hands of it? I’ve come running to you for help because I’m out of options."

Nathan Fawcett listened to him but didn’t reply.

Caleb Summers said, "I admit I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that before, but now that you’re gone, the company is a mess. Why don’t you go apologize to your auntie? Please?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ve already made up my mind about this. I don’t want to be responsible for company matters for the time being. However, regarding the Thorne Family’s situation, I’ve spoken with President Thorne before and know where their company’s problems lie. If you follow my instructions and communicate with him, things will be resolved."

Caleb Summers looked at Nathan Fawcett. "Are you sure?"

Nathan Fawcett nodded. "Yes."

...

Anne Sutton had been lying in bed for a while and was about to fall asleep when she saw Nathan Fawcett come in.

She asked, "What took so long?"

Nathan Fawcett replied, "We just finished talking. Caleb Summers has gone back."

Anne Sutton asked, "Did he come to you about company business?"

"I suppose so," Nathan Fawcett said. "I gave him some advice, so we talked for a while. Did I wake you?"

Anne Sutton said, "No, I was just about to fall asleep. I was planning to wait for you to come back before sleeping anyway."

She leaned against the pillow, gazing tenderly at the man. Suddenly, Anne Sutton felt that she was starting to fall for him, too.

’To think that he looked so handsome like this!’

Hearing what Anne Sutton said, Nathan Fawcett replied, "Alright then, I’m going to take a shower. Wait for me!"

Anne Sutton smiled. "Go on."

...

Anne Sutton was lying in bed when her phone buzzed. She picked it up and saw it was a message from Charles Prescott.

It was a news article about Ethan Linden leaving the Linden Group. Someone had leaked the story, which also said that Noah Linden had taken over the company after Ethan’s departure.

Charles Prescott’s message said, "Is this true?"

"..." Anne Sutton hadn’t expected Charles Prescott to be so well-informed. "What’s it to you?"

He replied, "Thought you’d latched onto a powerful backer, didn’t you? Regretting it now? He’s just a worthless loser with nothing to his name. If you’ve given up on him, it’s not too late to come back to me."
