Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 360: Unwilling to Let Nathan Fawcett Go
Anne Sutton was baffled.
’What does he mean?’
’Is he saying that now that Ethan Linden has been kicked out of the Linden Group, I’ll go running back to him?’
Anne Sutton said, "Charles Prescott, can you not pop up every now and then just to disgust me? Do you really think the problem between us has anything to do with Ethan Linden? Does my relationship with Ethan, or his status, have any bearing on my relationship with you? Would I ever get back together with you? Don’t you have a ton of other women? Go spend your time trying to sweet-talk them! Don’t come looking for me. You make me sick."
"..." Charles Prescott sat in his chair, staring at the message from Anne Sutton.
He’d actually been thrilled to see that Ethan Linden had been dismissed.
But he never expected...
...that Anne Sutton would be so blunt and give him no face at all!
He typed back, "It’s okay. You can act tough, Anne. Sooner or later, you’ll understand how much I care about you. I believe you’ll come back to my side eventually."
"Don’t worry!" Anne Sutton replied. "That day will never come. You can give up hope."
’Go back to him?’
’Not a chance in hell!’
"I’m so pissed!"
Nathan Fawcett came out of the bathroom and saw Anne Sutton on the bed, slamming her phone down.
He looked at Anne and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Anne Sutton said, "It’s Charles Prescott. He heard the news online about you being dismissed—I have no idea who leaked it—and he actually tried to convince me to go back to him. Can you believe how ridiculous that is?"
Nathan Fawcett walked over, wrapped his arms around Anne, and kissed her on the cheek. "You’re getting angry over something like that?"
Hearing his words, Anne replied, "He’s just so disgusting! He always manages to pop up and nauseate me."
Nathan said, "Since I have some free time these days, I might as well take a trip to Westhaven."
"You’re going to Westhaven?" Anne looked at Nathan.
Nathan nodded. "Mhm. I’ll go over and see how Charles Prescott is handling things at the company."
Hearing this, Anne said, "Okay, that’s a good idea! I’m also worried he’ll mess things up!"
A smile played on Nathan’s lips. He held Anne close and kissed her, looking at her tenderly. "When you’re with me, don’t think about such insignificant people."
Anne looked at Nathan, feeling her heart pound in her chest.
"So when are you planning to leave?"
"Tomorrow, I think," Nathan said. "I don’t have anything else going on for now anyway. I’ll go check up on things. I was too busy before and didn’t have the time, but now I’m free."
Anne said, "So soon?"
"Going to miss me?" Nathan chuckled.
"No," Anne said, then asked, "How long will you be gone?"
Although she and Nathan had both been in Veridia recently,
they hadn’t really been on good terms because of their fight.
Now that their relationship had finally improved, he was leaving again. Anne was very reluctant to see him go.
Nathan said, "I’m afraid if I don’t do something productive every day and just live off you at home, you’ll start to despise me."
"...How could that be possible?"
"Who says it’s not possible?" Nathan countered. "I bet you’re thinking it but are just too embarrassed to say it out loud!"
"..." Anne said, "Since you’re putting it that way, let’s just pretend that’s what I’m thinking! In that case, when you go, bring something for my sister for me."
Nathan nodded. "Okay."
"Is Ian going too?"
"If you’re busy with work, I’ll take him with me. We can look around a bit. If you can bear to part with him, I’ll take him there for a few days of fun."
"Why don’t you take him out for a bit?" Anne said. "I feel so bad for him, cooped up at home every day."
"Alright," Nathan said. "I’ll take him there for a few days. If you miss him, I’ll have him video call you. And then I’ll bring him back to see you."
"Okay."
...
The next day, Nathan Fawcett took Ian with him to Westhaven.
Before they left, Ian was a little reluctant to go.
He had thought Westhaven was fun before because Anne Sutton was there.
Now that he was going with just Nathan, there would be nothing for him there, which made him even more reluctant.
However, Nathan said he would take him somewhere fun, so he went along anyway.
That evening, while Anne Sutton was at home reading by herself, Caleb Summers came over. "Where’s Nathan!"
He looked rather agitated.
Anne looked at him. "He went to Westhaven."
"What’s he doing in Westhaven?" Caleb found it hard to understand.
Anne replied, "He went to handle matters for the Fawcett Group."
Hearing this, Caleb Summers sat down and took a sip of water. "Now that Nathan has left the Linden Group, he’s not thinking of going back to Westhaven for good, is he?"
After all, everything related to the Fawcett Family is over there.
It would be understandable if he decided to go back there.
Anne said, "That’s where he belongs anyway."
"Bullshit!" Caleb exclaimed. "I don’t agree!"
His outburst made Anne laugh. "You’re a real piece of work. Does he need to ask your opinion before he does something? Why wouldn’t you agree?"
Caleb said, "If he’s gone, what’s going to happen to the Linden Group?"
Anne said, "He’s already left. What does the Linden Group have to do with him anymore?"
At this, Caleb’s face fell.
He thought about the handover with the Thorne Family he’d managed earlier that day, following Nathan’s instructions. Everything had gone surprisingly smoothly.
’Only he could have come up with a solution like that.’
He suddenly realized just how much he didn’t want Nathan to leave.
Caleb said, "I’ve thought it over. If he’s unwilling to go apologize to Auntie, I’ll go! I’ll go for him! No matter what, he can’t leave the company."
Before, he had thought that Nathan was the one who couldn’t survive without the Linden Group.
But now that Nathan was gone, he realized it was the other way around: the Linden Group couldn’t survive without him.
Back when Master Linden was still around, everyone had a central pillar to rely on.
Later, he retired for health reasons and handed the reins to Nathan Fawcett.
Everyone saw how smoothly Nathan handled everything and naturally assumed that it was the Linden Family that had made him successful!
But...
The old master had been an incredible force in his day!
The things he was able to accomplish were not things an ordinary person could do.
And yet, after Nathan took over the company, not only did he not make a single mistake, but he also managed everything in an orderly fashion, never giving Master Linden or Anna Linden a single thing to worry about.
It made them completely overlook his own abilities!
Anne Sutton looked at Caleb Summers and said, "Didn’t you say before that if he left the Linden Family, you wouldn’t care about him anymore?"
Caleb replied, "I was just saying that because I was angry! I never thought he’d actually give up his identity as Ethan Linden. Would any normal person do something like that? He’s got some serious nerve!"
Hearing Caleb’s words, Anne said, "He probably planned this for a long time. Living his life in someone else’s shadow must have made him very unhappy. Not to mention all the people who wanted to drag him down. He might not dislike the life he has now."
After hearing what Anne said, Caleb insisted, "Anyway, just convince him! They can find anyone to manage things over at the Fawcett Group. Don’t they have Charles Prescott? Tell him to hurry back!"
"What’s the use of me telling him to come back?" Anne said. "You didn’t see Dr. Linden’s attitude. She’s not going to let Nathan Fawcett come back."
