Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 354: Why Fear Him?
She remembered when Nathan Fawcett first came into her life. He had a foul temper and not a single redeeming quality.
It was only after she gave him strict instructions, telling him to live like Ethan Linden, that he slowly started to act like a decent person.
Deep down, Anna Linden had always looked down on this son of hers.
Anne Sutton said, "As long as someone is handling it, that’s fine. Don’t let his recklessness affect company matters."
"That’s enough," Anna Linden said. "Go back and tell him I’ve handed the company over to Noah."
Noah Linden was also Anna Linden’s nephew. Among the side branches of the Linden Family, there were many in Ethan Linden’s generation, and a good number of them worked at the company.
Anna Linden wasn’t at all worried about finding a replacement.
Anne Sutton looked at Anna Linden and said, "Okay."
Anna Linden said, "Once someone else is in charge, everyone will know that Nathan Fawcett and I have had a falling out. He’s in for a rough time!"
Hearing this, Anne Sutton looked at Anna Linden. She could tell Anna was somewhat hesitant, but she was making this decision out of spite for Nathan Fawcett.
Anne Sutton said, "Actually, Nathan Fawcett..."
"Don’t you dare speak up for him," Anna Linden said. "My problem is that I’ve been too good to him!"
Although the matter with the Shields Family was resolved for now, Nathan Fawcett’s attitude still infuriated Anna Linden.
...
That evening, Anne Sutton came home to find Nathan Fawcett sitting in front of the TV, casually watching a show with Ian.
Anne Sutton: "..."
’He must be really bored!’
Anne Sutton snarked, "You’re in the mood to watch TV? Is it any good?"
"It’s all right," Nathan Fawcett said. "Ian likes it too."
He glanced at his son, who was sitting beside him, fast asleep from watching television.
Anne Sutton: "..."
She said to Nathan Fawcett, "Your mother asked me to tell you that she’s handed the company over to Noah Linden. She also said you forced her hand!"
Nathan Fawcett wasn’t surprised to hear it was Noah Linden. "Noah is far more reliable than Ryan Linden. I guess she still has some sense."
"Aren’t you worried at all?" Anne Sutton asked. "Have you thought about this? The Linden Family is going to come after you. They already couldn’t stand you, and now they’ve finally gotten their wish—you’ve had a falling out with your mother!"
’Especially Ryan Linden. Who knows what he’s plotting right now!’
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, "I’m hungry."
"So what if you’re hungry? What, you expect me to cook for you? I just got home after working all day."
’What is this pathetic act?’
’I’m going to lose my mind!’
Nathan Fawcett said, "Let’s go eat at your mom’s restaurant."
"The way you’re acting, my mom probably doesn’t want to see you."
Mrs. Sutton didn’t approve of how Nathan was treating his mother.
So she would definitely give him a talking-to if she knew.
Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Nathan Fawcett just said, "Let’s go."
Seeing his persistence, and not wanting to cook herself, Anne Sutton reluctantly agreed.
The two of them left the house with Ian, who had just woken up and was still a little groggy.
Just then, they saw Caleb Summers parking his car.
When Anne Sutton saw him, she called out, "Caleb Summers, want to grab a bite at the restaurant?"
Caleb Summers saw Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett, scowled, and walked away as if he didn’t know them at all.
He had said before that if Nathan Fawcett ever stopped being Ethan Linden, they would no longer be friends.
He only respected people who were more formidable than him.
But Nathan Fawcett’s current love-addled state was a huge disappointment to him.
...
Seeing this, Anne Sutton’s gaze fell on Nathan Fawcett. "Happy now?" she asked.
"It’s better this way," Nathan Fawcett said. "I didn’t really want to see him anyway."
Anne Sutton’s mouth twitched at his words. ’He’s truly impossible!’
When they got to the restaurant, Anne Sutton ordered a few dishes, and the family of three settled into a private room.
She watched Nathan Fawcett sit there, eating with gusto. She had no idea how he could be so carefree as to have an appetite at a time like this.
Anne Sutton rested her chin in her hand, watching him. Noticing her stare, Nathan Fawcett said, "Go on, eat. Don’t just stare at me."
He even put some food on her plate as he spoke.
Anne Sutton said, "Nathan, you’re being really disappointing."
Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett said, "If you don’t like it, I’ll take Ian and move out."
"..." Anne Sutton glanced at her precious son. "You can go if you want, but why are you taking Ian? You want him to suffer with you?"
"I have nothing left. Do you have the heart to take my son from me, too?"
"It’s precisely because you have nothing that Ian should stay with me."
Nathan Fawcett said, "You’ve really got it all figured out, haven’t you?"
As they were talking, a commotion started outside their door.
Anne Sutton opened the door a crack and peeked out, surprised to see Ryan Linden.
He hadn’t been seen for a while, so his sudden appearance here took Anne Sutton by surprise.
A man next to Ryan Linden was saying, "This is the restaurant Anne Sutton’s mother owns! Ethan Linden used to come here all the time."
"I don’t know where Ethan Linden is now, but if we smash this place up, he’s bound to show up!" Ryan Linden laughed smugly. "I never thought that punk would have a day like this."
Before, when Ethan Linden was the Head of the Linden Family, there was nothing he could do. But now, he could finally get his revenge.
Anne Sutton’s heart sank when she heard this.
She stood up to go outside, but Nathan Fawcett grabbed her. "You’re going out now?"
Anne Sutton said, "Didn’t you hear them? They’re going to trash my mother’s restaurant! This is all your fault!"
’If he were still the Head of the Linden Family, how would Ryan Linden dare to come here and act so brazenly?’
’Honestly, Nathan Fawcett was just too naive!’
Anne Sutton hated this.
She hated the feeling of being bullied.
Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett stood up. "I’ll go."
With that, he opened the door to their private room and walked out.
Ryan Linden was stunned for a moment when he saw him walk out, but then he laughed. "Well, well, look who’s here."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at the object in Ryan Linden’s hand. It was a decorative piece that Mrs. Sutton treasured.
It had been on display here ever since the restaurant opened.
Nathan Fawcett said in a low voice, "Take your filthy hands off of that."
Ryan Linden laughed dismissively at Nathan Fawcett’s words. "Who do you think you’re talking to? Ethan Linden, don’t you know? Our aunt has already fired you. Noah’s in charge now, which means there’s no place for you in the Linden Family anymore! To be honest, I’ve been waiting for this. You even dared to defy our aunt... you really have a death wish!"
After he finished speaking, he gestured for his men to move in on Nathan Fawcett.
’He was still fuming about the time Ethan Linden had hit him.’
Seeing his signal, Ryan Linden’s men immediately rushed forward to grab Nathan Fawcett.
Nathan Fawcett looked at the two goons. "You two think you’re enough? You’d better think twice before you do anything. Ask yourselves if Ryan Linden can really protect you afterward."
Nathan Fawcett was never one to be trifled with. The moment he spoke, his sheer presence was enough to intimidate the two thugs.
Seeing his men get intimidated by Nathan Fawcett, Ryan Linden said dismissively, "What are you afraid of? He’s just a loser now! No money, no power. Don’t be scared of him!"
