Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 353: Spoiled Useless by His Dad
Caleb Summers clenched his fists. He watched the man, then walked into the kitchen.
When Anne Sutton saw him, she quickly took a step back. But she heard Caleb Summers ask, "Aren’t you going to do something about him?"
As Caleb Summers spoke, Nathan Fawcett’s gaze shifted toward them.
Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett on the sofa before turning to Caleb Summers. "Do I look like I can control him? It’s not like he’d let me!"
Caleb Summers said, "But you can’t just let him do this! Once he leaves the company, he’ll have nothing!"
Anne Sutton replied to Caleb, "He’s not worried about it himself, so you should just leave him be. Besides, it doesn’t matter who runs the Linden Group—it won’t affect your position. Why do you care so much?"
Seeing how calm Anne Sutton was, Caleb Summers’s fists tightened even more. "Forget it. You two are going to be the death of me. Then again, if you can’t talk sense into him, what hope do I have?"
Caleb Summers walked out of the kitchen and looked at Nathan Fawcett. "Nathan Fawcett, since you’re the one giving up, I’m done having you as a brother. I can’t be bothered with you anymore! And don’t you dare come looking for me ever again."
With that, he walked straight out, slamming the door behind him.
Ian, who had been standing to the side, watched this unfold with a clueless look. He asked, "What’s wrong with Caleb?"
Anne Sutton glanced at Ian, then brought out a bowl of noodles. "Time to eat."
She then looked over at Nathan Fawcett. "Are you eating or not?"
Anne Sutton had actually eaten her fill during dinner earlier. She wasn’t a picky eater. Sometimes, when she was busy at the hospital, she could fill her stomach with just about anything.
Besides, tonight’s meal had been a veritable feast.
Unlike Nathan Fawcett, who was extremely picky. No matter how well food was prepared outside, there were many things he couldn’t get used to.
Hearing Anne Sutton’s question, Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. "Did you make some for me?"
"I did." After setting down Ian’s bowl, Anne Sutton brought another one over for him.
Nathan Fawcett sat at the dining table, looking at the noodles Anne Sutton had cooked for him. She had even added an egg, and she had controlled the heat perfectly—the egg was tender.
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Didn’t you say you’d ignore me once I left the Linden Family? You told me before that what you liked was money."
"..." Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, the corner of Anne Sutton’s mouth twitched. For some reason, she had the sudden urge to beat him to death.
She looked at the man and said, "I don’t want to bother with you, but you’re currently freeloading in my house."
Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. He had originally thought she would kick him out, but it seemed she had no intention of doing so. She had even cooked him noodles.
After finishing his noodles, Nathan Fawcett sat to the side, completely satisfied. Anne Sutton, remembering how furious Caleb Summers had been, looked at Nathan’s composed expression. "You really aren’t worried at all."
"I already told you, worrying is useless," Nathan Fawcett said. "None of the Linden Family’s assets were ever truly mine to begin with. My mother constantly threatens to take everything away if I don’t listen to her. Since that’s the case, it’s better to just let her take it."
"You might not care about the Linden Family’s assets, but do you not care about your mother either?" Anne Sutton asked. "Didn’t you see how angry she was when she left today? You’re her only son. Was it really necessary to let things get this bad?"
’And it’s all because of me!’
’In Caleb Summers’s words, he really should be out digging for wild vegetables now!’
’What has he been doing with his life?’
’I just don’t get it!’
Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ve had enough of it for a long time. This is for the best."
Anne Sutton fell silent, staring at him. "You really do treat money like dirt. But let me tell you something, Nathan Fawcett. Don’t think you can fall back on the Fawcett Family’s assets. With you acting so disappointingly, I have no intention of giving you any of it for the time being."
It wasn’t that she coveted those assets.
They had agreed that if things got too bad with his mother, she would return everything to him!
But he was just being too willful.
It was enough to make Anne Sutton fume.
Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett’s lips curved into a smile. "I wasn’t counting on it. I never planned on taking back the Fawcett Family’s assets after I gave them to you."
Anne Sutton looked at him, surprised. "Are you sure?"
’He really doesn’t want the Fawcett Family’s assets back?’
Anne Sutton said, "Then what will you do? What if your mother gets angry and decides to ignore you from now on? Are you content to be a good-for-nothing bum at home every day?"
Nathan Fawcett replied, "I’ll cook and take care of the kid at home every day, waiting for you to support me. It’s not like you can’t afford it."
"You wish!"
’He won’t learn anything useful, but he’s already planning to be a freeloader!’
’There’s no such thing as a free lunch in this world.’
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton, not getting angry at all.
He was unexpectedly calm.
「...」
The next day, Anne Sutton went to the hospital and saw Anna Linden, who didn’t look well.
Anne Sutton asked, "Dr. Linden, haven’t you eaten?"
Hearing this, Anna Linden glanced at Anne Sutton. "Do you think I have any appetite?"
Seeing her state, Anne Sutton said, "You should still eat something. If you can’t stomach the food at home, you can eat at my mother’s place."
Her mother had mentioned that Anna Linden really liked her cooking.
Anna Linden said to Anne Sutton, "Nathan Fawcett has had a complete falling-out with me because of you. You must be very happy now, right?"
Hearing her words, Anne Sutton replied, "Do I look happy to you? I was supposed to marry the Head of the Linden Family, and now I’ve ended up with nothing. I’m furious, so why would I be happy?"
Anne Sutton’s words actually made Anna Linden laugh. "So that’s the extent of your ambition!"
"Isn’t it?" Anne Sutton said. "Back then, to forge a connection with the Prescott Family, my father was willing to have me engaged to Charles Prescott. I was still young and knew nothing, but my life was already arranged for me! Later, my father wanted to send my younger sister to the Fawcett Family to have Nathan Fawcett’s child... For poor people like us, aren’t we born just to strive for wealth and glory?"
Anna Linden glanced at Anne Sutton after hearing her speak.
She asked, "How is Nathan Fawcett?"
"..." Anne Sutton said, "He’s very upset and feels guilty. He wants to come and apologize to you, but he’s afraid you’ll ignore him."
"Is that so?" Anna Linden looked at Anne Sutton. "You’re quite the liar! I imagine he’s probably living it up right now, isn’t he?"
"..." Seeing she couldn’t hide it, Anne Sutton said helplessly, "It seems you’ve already guessed. He really isn’t worried at all, and I have no idea what he’s thinking. By the way, now that he’s not at the company, how are things over there?"
Normally, Anna Linden didn’t have the time or energy to manage the company.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have planned for Nathan Fawcett to take over the Linden Family’s assets under the name Ethan Linden in the first place.
Now that Nathan Fawcett had washed his hands of the matter, Anna Linden couldn’t find a suitable replacement on such short notice.
When Anne Sutton asked, she said coldly, "You think the company can’t run without him? There are plenty of people in the company. If he doesn’t want to handle things, there are plenty of others who do."
Anna Linden continued, "If it weren’t for the fact that he’s my son, do you think he could have stayed at the Linden Group this long? What skills does he have? His father spoiled him since he was a child, rendering him completely useless!"
