Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 349: He’s Drunk and Won’t Let Her Go
Hearing what Caleb Summers said, Anne Sutton gave him a look, finding it odd. "Hasn’t he been here the whole time?"
"I thought after things got so bad between you and Ethan, he would’ve taken the child away."
But as it turned out, Nathan Fawcett had let Anne Sutton stay with their child the whole time, showing no intention of taking him away.
Caleb Summers’s words reminded Anne Sutton. ’That’s right! In the past, Nathan Fawcett would have taken the child away no matter what. He wouldn’t have gone easy on me at all.’ "I find it strange, too."
She had been worried sick these past few days that Nathan Fawcett would take the child away.
But it was quite surprising that he’d rather take his anger out on the Shields family than on her.
Anne Sutton looked at Caleb Summers and asked, "You’re already off work? Hasn’t he come home yet?"
"He has a work dinner tonight, so he’ll be back late. I just came by to pick something up."
Anne Sutton said, "Okay."
Caleb Summers said, "Stop being angry with Ethan and try to soothe him a little! If he keeps this up, everyone at our company is going to be put through hell."
Anne Sutton said, "Isn’t this what you wanted?"
"Since when do I like this?" Caleb Summers shot Anne Sutton a glare and turned to leave.
’If it weren’t for Nathan Fawcett’s own good, I never would have said those things that were bound to offend him.’
’But now look what happened. The two of them are fighting, and Nathan Fawcett can’t bring himself to lash out at his wife, so he’s using me as his punching bag instead.’
’It’s true what they say: when gods fight, mortals suffer.’
Just like any other day, Anne Sutton had dinner at home with Ian and got ready for bed.
But before she could get Ian to sleep, Butler Walters called. "Ms. Sutton."
Anne Sutton asked, "What is it?"
Butler Walters said, "Sir is asking for you. Would you be able to come over?"
"I’m busy." Hearing that Nathan Fawcett was looking for her, Anne Sutton had no desire to deal with him. "I’m about to go to sleep!"
It was so late, and she had no desire to leave the house, let alone go see Nathan Fawcett.
Butler Walters said, "But we’re truly at our wit’s end. Please, you have to come over! I’m begging you."
His voice was filled with desperation.
It was as if their lives depended on her going.
Anne Sutton said, "What on earth is he up to now? Does he just have to make my life difficult?"
Anne Sutton was speechless for a moment. But then she remembered her conversation with Caleb Summers that afternoon and glanced over at Ian. "Fine," she said. "Send me the address on WeChat. I’ll head over in a little while."
She hung up. Ian looked at her and asked, "Mommy, was that Daddy looking for you?"
"Mhm," Anne Sutton said. "You go to sleep first. I’ll go see him after you’ve drifted off."
Ian said, "I want to go too."
"It’s too late," Anne Sutton said. "You should stay home and rest. I’ll be back soon. I’ll wait for Grandma to get back before I leave."
Even though they had maids, she didn’t want to leave Ian home by himself.
Hearing this, Ian nodded.
Once Mrs. Sutton arrived, Anne Sutton drove over to Nathan Fawcett’s place.
’On the way there, she had already decided she was going to give that man a piece of her mind. What was he doing, summoning her for no good reason?’
’Making her lose sleep late at night.’
But the moment she walked in, she saw Nathan Fawcett slumped over, obviously drunk.
Butler Walters stood to one side, a helpless look on his face. "Ms. Sutton."
Anne Sutton asked, "What’s wrong with him?"
"He’s had a bit too much to drink." Nathan Fawcett didn’t usually drink. His health wasn’t good, and alcohol was bad for him.
’I can’t believe he’s gotten so bold, daring to drink like this!’
Anne Sutton said, "If he’s had too much to drink, why haven’t you put him to bed? What did you call me for?"
Butler Walters glanced at Anne Sutton, walked over to Nathan Fawcett’s side, and said, "Sir."
Nathan Fawcett immediately shoved him away. "Get lost. Don’t touch me!"
He was clearly drunk, but still acting like this. It even startled Anne Sutton.
Butler Walters gave Anne Sutton a helpless look.
Anne Sutton said, "I don’t dare go near him when he’s like this. I’m afraid he might hit me."
Hearing her, Butler Walters said, "He won’t. Sir has been looking for you. He keeps calling your name."
Hearing this, Anne Sutton gave the butler a skeptical look before walking over to Nathan Fawcett’s side.
She reached out and gave the man a push. "Ethan Linden."
He started to push her, but the butler interjected, "Sir, it’s Ms. Sutton."
Only then did Nathan Fawcett stop.
He opened his eyes and looked at her. "Anne."
"..." Hearing him say her name, Anne Sutton stared at the man, unable to tell if he was actually drunk or just pretending.
Anne Sutton asked, "Do you want to go home?"
Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett nodded. "Mhm."
"Then let’s get going." ’She didn’t even know what she was doing. She clearly wanted nothing to do with this man, but now look at her—he gets drunk, and she’s the one who has to come take care of him!’
Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett stood up. "You’re not mad at me anymore?"
He had drunk so much that he couldn’t even walk steadily. Afraid he would fall, the butler quickly steadied him.
He watched Anne Sutton and followed behind her. Anne heard his question but didn’t respond.
’Not angry?’
’How could I not be?’
’His behavior over the last few days was enough to erase all the brownie points he’d earned before!’
Seeing she wasn’t angry, Nathan Fawcett walked over and took her hand. "Anne."
"..." Anne Sutton turned and glared at him, only to be met with an innocent expression. Perhaps he really was drunk. He didn’t seem so aggressive anymore.
Anne Sutton looked at the man and said, "Just walk properly. How am I supposed to walk if you’re pulling on me? You’re so annoying!"
"I’m not," Nathan Fawcett said, looking at her. "I’m not bothering you."
He obediently let go of her hand.
Watching him, Anne Sutton thought, ’If only he were always this obedient!’
Once they were downstairs, Anne Sutton looked at the butler and said, "Alright, you can take him back now. See that he gets home."
Anne Sutton had no intention of bringing this drunkard back to her place.
Maybe it was because they had been fighting lately, but just looking at Nathan Fawcett made her furious, and she had no patience for him.
The butler nodded. "Thank you, Ms. Sutton."
’At least they managed to get him downstairs!’
’Otherwise, he might have stayed up there all night.’
Nathan Fawcett was standing right next to Anne Sutton. Butler Walters opened the car door and said to him, "Sir, please get in."
Nathan Fawcett didn’t move. He stood beside Anne, looked at her, and said, "Anne, get in."
"..." Anne Sutton glanced at him. "You get in first. I still have something to do."
Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett said, "What is it? I’ll go with you."
"..." Anne Sutton said, "Just hurry up and go home to bed!"
"No, I want to be with you," he insisted.
Anne Sutton looked at him. "Don’t you think you’re being annoying, clinging to me like this?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "Nope, not annoying!"
He refused to let up, and Anne Sutton was at a loss. She had no choice but to get into the car first, telling someone else to drive her car back for her.
She sat in the car with Nathan Fawcett beside her. He leaned his head against the window and fell asleep.
He had drunk too much; he was probably just exhausted.
