Chapter 350: You’re Really Good at Making Excuses

Anne had intended to use this chance to shake him off, but a glance revealed he was clutching her hand tightly.

’There was just nothing she could do about him.’

In the end, she had no choice but to take him home.

They helped Nathan Fawcett upstairs to her room.

Anne Sutton stood to the side, watching the man. "Butler Walters," she said, "you can look after him here. I’m going to sleep in the room next door."

’Perfect, I’ll sleep with Ian!’

Butler Walters glanced at Anne Sutton. "Very well."

Anne went to Ian’s room, took a quick shower, and went to bed.

In the middle of the night, someone crept into her bed and lay down beside her.

She smelled the alcohol on him and wrinkled her brow.

’I can’t believe he’d follow me here just to bother me!’

"What are you doing?"

Nathan Fawcett held her without a word.

Afraid of waking Ian, Anne dragged him right out of the room.

She glared at Nathan Fawcett. "Are you insane?"

"Anne," Nathan Fawcett said, looking at her. "Why won’t you stay with me?"

"Weren’t you already asleep?" ’Taking over my bed was bad enough!’

She had escaped to the next room, but he still wouldn’t leave her alone.

’I really don’t know what he’s trying to do!’

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "You’re not sleeping with me."

"..." Anne rubbed her aching temples and followed him back to her room.

She stood to the side, looked at him, and ordered, "Lie down."

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her, walked over, and lay down on the bed.

He pulled the covers all the way up, leaving only his face peeking out to watch her.

Anne turned to leave, but she saw he had already sat up again, looking as if he would follow her the moment she stepped out the door.

She was out of options. Afraid she’d wake Ian if she went back, she decided to just stay in the room.

In the end, Anne gave up and just slept on the sofa.

In the middle of the night, she opened her eyes to find Nathan Fawcett lying right beside her.

Looking at him, she truly felt at a complete loss.

’Seriously, is he trying to drive me crazy?’

After a long while, sensing that Nathan Fawcett was awake, Anne said, "You’re awake?"

He opened his eyes, looked at her, and asked, "Why are you sleeping on the sofa?"

’From the sound of his voice, he must be sober now!’

Anne glanced out the window. He had tormented her all night, and she hadn’t slept a wink. Right now, she had the sudden urge to hit someone.

Anne said, "You’re asking me? Shouldn’t you be asking yourself that?"

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, sensing her simmering resentment. "I drank too much last night."

"That’s just an excuse!" Anne said. "You did it on purpose to piss me off, didn’t you?"

"I’m not that childish," Nathan Fawcett said, looking at Anne. "I’m sorry for the trouble."

Anne looked at the man. "What is wrong with you? Don’t you know your own limits? Drinking so much and causing trouble for everyone."

Nathan Fawcett watched her. He had been about to get up, but lying next to her, seeing her angry expression, he simply hugged her tighter and didn’t let go.

Anne said, "Are you going to get up or not?"

Nathan Fawcett asked, "What did I do last night?"

Anne retorted, "You have no idea what you did? You made me pick you up late at night. I went to sleep with Ian, and you came to bother me. I had no other choice, so I slept on the sofa, but you wouldn’t even leave me alone there. What exactly are you trying to do?"

Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett said, "It’s probably because I missed you."

"..." Anne was rendered speechless. She stared at him. "Are you insane?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ll try my best not to cause you any more trouble in the future."

’He knew how much he loved her!’

’But he didn’t want to be so obvious about it in front of her.’

’So he had to hold back.’

’But he couldn’t control himself when he was drunk.’

’When he missed her, his feelings would come out!’

’But he was in such a terrible mood!’

’He hadn’t had a single happy day since their argument.’

Seeing that Anne wasn’t responding, Nathan Fawcett felt he had said too much and stood up.

Anne sat on the sofa and began to get dressed. "How are things with the Shields family?" she asked Nathan Fawcett.

"What about them?" Nathan Fawcett stood to the side, coolly buttoning his shirt.

Anne said, "Didn’t Justin Shields come to see you yesterday?"

"I ignored him."

Anne glanced at Nathan Fawcett. "Are you really planning on backing them into a corner?"

At this, Nathan Fawcett’s hand paused on a button. He looked at Anne. "What, are you pleading for the Shields family now? I thought you said you weren’t interested in their affairs."

"I’m not interested," Anne said. "But if you really push the Shields family to the brink, what will your mother think? Besides, they don’t deserve to be completely destroyed over this."

As much as she disliked the Shields family, Anne didn’t think it was necessary to be so ruthless.

She wanted nothing to do with the Shields family, but Nathan still had ties to them. If he took things this far, they would end up hating him.

Nathan Fawcett said, "I don’t care what my mother thinks. Why do you?"

Anne looked at him. "You might not care about wealth and status, but I do! You’re not interested in anything to do with the Linden Family, but you have to think about our son, don’t you?"

"..." Hearing this, the corner of Nathan Fawcett’s mouth twitched. He looked at Anne. "You want Ian to inherit from the Linden Family?"

"You don’t?" Anne challenged. "Or would you rather just hand over the Linden Family’s legacy to others? To the very people who are constantly badmouthing you behind your back?"

Nathan Fawcett stared at her. "You’re really good at coming up with excuses, all just to plead on Justin Shields’s behalf."

Hearing him say that, Anne felt a wave of helplessness. "Fine, then just say I’m pleading for him! Things have gone far enough. It’s time for you to stop."

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "Fine, you want me to stop? I will. But you have to promise me you’ll never have anything to do with Justin Shields again. I don’t want to see you have even the slightest connection to him."

"..." Anne finished pulling on her shirt and stood up. She faced Nathan Fawcett. "And why should I agree to that? What do you take me for, a sucker?"

It wasn’t that she wanted to be with Justin Shields. She just hated that he was using these tactics to threaten her and forbid her from seeing other men.

Today it was Justin Shields; tomorrow it could be someone else.

’He can have his freedom, but he gives me no choice at all? And expects me to just be with him?’

’By what right?’

"If you won’t agree, then fine!" Nathan Fawcett said. "Then let Justin Shields hate you! He’ll remember exactly who’s to blame for what happened to the Shields Family!"

With that, Nathan Fawcett turned and walked straight out of the bedroom.

His cold, aloof demeanor made him seem like a completely different person from the clingy man last night.

Anne watched him leave, her expression darkening.

She wasn’t working today. She got a call from Charles Prescott, who told her there was a meeting and asked her to attend as the chairwoman of the Fawcett Group.

He said he was too lazy to make the trip himself.

Since Anne happened to be free, she went.

When she arrived, she saw Justin Shields.

He was sitting off to the side, looking unusually quiet and reserved compared to his normal self.

The Shields family was in dire straits because of Nathan Fawcett, so he was clearly not in a good mood.

Even though he knew he couldn’t afford to cross Nathan Fawcett, having actually done so and dragged the Shields family into this mess, Justin Shields still felt utterly dejected.
