Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 334: She’s Going on a Business Trip
She knew Anna Linden was a completely different person from her own mother! She would absolutely never waste any extra thought on a man.
Work was her entire life!
That didn’t seem so bad; at least she wouldn’t get hurt by men. But on second thought, Nathan Fawcett was very good to her, so there was no need to be so unfeeling.
When she thought about how clingy Nathan Fawcett could be, it seemed that, for now, she wasn’t so worried about the future anymore.
Anna Linden looked at her and said, "You can go. Prepare well."
Anne Sutton nodded.
That evening, after finishing work and returning home, she told Nathan Fawcett about her upcoming training.
Nathan Fawcett asked, "How long will you be gone?"
"Uh, I forgot to ask."
Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "Then you should ask."
"I’ll ask later and let you know."
Nathan Fawcett was sitting nearby. He had been in the middle of dinner, but now he stopped eating to look at Anne Sutton.
Seeing him staring at her, Anne Sutton asked, puzzled, "What is it? Why are you looking at me like that?"
’It’s like I’ve done something wrong!’
Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett said, "You’re going away for training and you didn’t even discuss it with me? You’re just going to leave Ian and me here?"
Anne Sutton was a little surprised. "What, are you unhappy? I’m just going for work."
’It’s for work; it can’t be helped!’
’I can’t just not go!’
Nathan Fawcett said, "In any case, you don’t care about us."
’He’s been so melodramatic lately.’
The thought of Anne Sutton being away for several days made Nathan Fawcett feel reluctant to let her go.
Ian, who was sitting nearby, heard Nathan Fawcett and said, "Mommy, I’ll miss you a lot too, but you have to take good care of yourself while you’re away. Otherwise, Ian will worry."
Nathan Fawcett was speechless.
Ian’s words sounded very sensible.
’And then there was me...’
’He realized this little brat was deliberately trying to get a rise out of him!’
’Ian’s comment made him sound so childish in comparison!’
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, "He’s getting better and better at sucking up!"
Anne Sutton said, "Look at how sensible Ian is. Nothing like you. I’m going away for work, and you’re still complaining!"
Nathan Fawcett was speechless.
He looked at her. "I just don’t want you to go. Is that so wrong?"
"Well, I’ll miss Mommy too!" Ian said, looking at Nathan Fawcett. "But Mommy has to go to work and earn money, so we shouldn’t make things difficult for her."
"Exactly."
The corner of Nathan Fawcett’s mouth twitched. He remembered that this was exactly what he used to tell Ian whenever he had to leave him at home!
’Great. Now Ian had learned the lesson and was using it on him.’
Nathan Fawcett asked, "When are you leaving?"
Anne Sutton said, "Tomorrow evening, they said. I need to pack. I have to bring a change of clothes."
"I’ll help you pack later."
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. "While I’m away, could you please help look after my mom for me?"
Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett said, "Don’t worry! I’m here for your mom. She’ll be fine."
Mrs. Sutton was busy with her shop now, so she didn’t have much time for anything else during the day.
She came back very late every night; sometimes it seemed like she wished she could just stay there and not come home.
Anne Sutton said, "Okay, I’ll go pick her up after dinner."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. "Let me go get her. You’ve had a long day."
"No, it’s fine." Anne Sutton looked at him and smiled. "You say that as if you aren’t busy during the day. I’ll go myself. I can pick her up and we can chat on the way. You just stay home and look after Ian!"
Nathan Fawcett thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright."
’After all, it was her own mother.’
After dinner, Anne Sutton drove out.
This was the car Justin Shields had helped her pick out. She rarely drove it.
...
When she arrived at the restaurant, Mrs. Sutton was just about finished.
Seeing Anne Sutton there to pick her up, she asked, "What are you doing here? Didn’t I tell you I’d just take a taxi?"
"How could I do that?" Anne Sutton said. "I wasn’t doing anything, so I just came to pick you up! What do you think? Aren’t I good to you?"
She was fishing for praise.
Mrs. Sutton glanced at her and smiled.
In the car, Mrs. Sutton said to Anne Sutton, "I’ve suddenly decided I want to learn to drive."
"Why the sudden interest?" Anne Sutton looked at her mother, surprised.
Mrs. Sutton said, "If I know how to drive, you won’t have to come get me in the future. I’ll be able to go home by myself, no matter how late it gets."
She had never considered such things before, back when she was still married.
Someone always drove her whenever she went out.
Or she would ride in Sean Sutton’s car!
She was used to being a housewife back then and had never thought about being independent.
Now that she was divorced and living alone with Anne Sutton, she was suddenly discovering there were so many things she could do.
Anne Sutton looked at Mrs. Sutton, the corners of her lips turning up. "That’s great! You already have a driver’s license, after all."
"But I haven’t driven in so long, I’m a little scared." Although she had a license, she didn’t have much experience driving on her own.
Anne Sutton said, "Don’t worry. When I’m done with my work, I’ll practice with you. With me by your side, you’ll be comfortable on the road in just a few days!"
"That would be wonderful!"
...
When the two of them got home, Nathan Fawcett had already put Ian to bed. Seeing Mrs. Sutton, Nathan Fawcett greeted her, "Mrs. Sutton."
"Oh, you’re still awake!" Mrs. Sutton said upon seeing Nathan Fawcett.
Nathan Fawcett said, "I was waiting for Anne to come home."
His gaze fell upon Anne Sutton.
Mrs. Sutton understood at once. "Well, you two go on to bed! I’m turning in myself."
She’d had a long day.
Nathan Fawcett said, "Good night, Mrs. Sutton."
Anne Sutton followed Nathan Fawcett into the room. She looked at him and said, "What was that about? Waiting by the door like that, you made my mom feel awkward."
Nathan Fawcett said, "How could I sleep before you got home? Aren’t you leaving for several days tomorrow?"
"It’s only for a few days," Anne Sutton said. "It’s not like I’m leaving for good! Do you have to be so dramatic? We were separated for much longer before, and I don’t remember you being this concerned!"
"That was then, this is now." ’These days, he wished he could just stuff her in his pocket when he went to work, to say nothing of her leaving for a multi-day training.’
Hearing him, Anne Sutton glanced at the man, a smile playing on her lips. "Is it really that bad?"
Nathan Fawcett looked at her but didn’t answer.
’Maybe it really was that bad.’
’He just wanted to be with her!’
’So, he wanted her to spend as much time as possible with him before she left.’
Anne Sutton said, "I’m going to shower first."
She took a quick shower and returned to find Nathan Fawcett lying on the bed, playing on his phone. Anne Sutton said, "Put your phone away. Come on."
"Come on for what?" he asked, looking at her.
Anne Sutton said, "You were waiting so eagerly for me to get back. Wasn’t it because you wanted... you know?"
Anne Sutton reached up and started to undress.
Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "That’s not what I meant."
"Oh..." Hearing him say that, Anne Sutton stopped and sat down on the edge of the bed. "Then what did you mean?"
Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "I just... wanted to spend more time looking at you! You thought I was only after one thing?"
Anne Sutton looked at him. "Wasn’t it? I thought you were sad because you couldn’t bear for me to be gone for a few days! I guess I misunderstood."
She lay down, and Nathan Fawcett pulled her into an embrace. He held her close and said, "Take good care of yourself while you’re away."
