Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 333: Don’t Want to Miss Her
"...Really?" His voice deepened as he looked at her, his gaze softening considerably.
Anne Sutton cleared her throat. "Just try it later! I actually really hope your relationship with your mother can improve. After all, you’ve been hoping for it for so many years, haven’t you?"
Nathan Fawcett nodded. "Yeah."
"I’ll go to the hospital after work tomorrow. I’ll get up early, bring her something to eat, and show her some extra care on your behalf."
The thought of how much Anna Linden seemed to despise her still made Anne Sutton a little upset...
But she still wanted to see Nathan Fawcett get his wish.
Nathan Fawcett said, "You don’t have to. If you have the time, you should just rest. I’ll ask her about it. Or if that doesn’t work, I’ll just cook for her myself."
The corner of Anne Sutton’s mouth twitched. "Aren’t you afraid she’ll get so angry she throws you out? Don’t you have any idea how bad your cooking is?"
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and said, "I think my cooking is quite good."
"Then let’s just forget it," Anne Sutton said. "Don’t force it!"
Nathan Fawcett looked at the woman in his arms. She was so close he could smell the fragrance of her hair. "You look down on me that much? I’ll go find your mom and learn how to cook properly."
Anne Sutton said, "Go ahead and try. You’ll never be able to learn my mother’s cooking skills."
"I don’t believe that for a second."
...
In the morning, Nathan Fawcett called Anna Linden and asked her how her appetite had been the past few days. Anna Linden replied, "It’s been fine. Why are you asking?"
"I was worried your appetite might still be poor, so I just wanted to check," Nathan Fawcett said. "How about I bring you some more food later?"
"There’s no need," Anna Linden said. "I’ve been eating well enough."
She was quite surprised that Nathan Fawcett had called to check on her.
’I don’t know if it’s my imagination, but ever since he moved out with Anne Sutton, he doesn’t seem as clueless as he used to be!’
’He even knows how to show some concern for me now!’
Anna Linden rejected Nathan Fawcett’s offer to bring her food.
She had gone to Mrs. Sutton’s shop the previous night and found it to be quite nice. The food was decent, too, almost as good as Anne Sutton’s cooking.
’I can go again tonight if I have time,’ she thought.
’Besides, I get along quite well with Mrs. Sutton.’
Anne Sutton was in the kitchen when Nathan Fawcett walked over and said, "My mom said there’s no need. She says her appetite has been pretty good lately."
"Oh, I see," Anne Sutton said. "Then we won’t bring her anything. We can just have a simple meal. My mom went to the shop again today!"
Mrs. Sutton had a newfound passion for her career.
She felt that running her own shop, building a business, and earning money was much more fulfilling than being a full-time housewife. It seemed she had found her purpose in life, so she was out early and back late every day, heading straight to the shop first thing in the morning.
Nathan Fawcett said, "Your mom is full of energy now."
"Isn’t she?" Anne Sutton said. "I can see she’s really happy. It’s actually a great thing! I mean, why should a woman have to put up with a man’s nonsense? She can live a wonderful life on her own, right?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "Right."
Anne Sutton looked at the man before her and smiled. She brought out the food, and she and Nathan Fawcett had a small meal at home.
Nathan Fawcett said, "By the way, when there’s a chance, I’d like for my mom and your mom to have a meal together."
He wanted to marry Anne Sutton, so it was only natural for their parents to meet.
Anne Sutton said, "My mother would be fine with it, but what about your mother... Would that be okay? I feel like she’s very busy. Plus, I’m afraid she wouldn’t be willing to meet my mom."
Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ll ask her about it later."
"Don’t ask. You’ll just get yelled at again. We’re not in a hurry to get married anyway."
"You’re not in a hurry, but I am."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and gave a helpless smile.
’It feels like I’m the only one who’s anxious about getting married!’
’But what can I do?’
’I don’t want to lose her!’
Anne Sutton said, "Have you been to the hospital for a check-up recently?"
"I have."
"How did it go?"
"I’ve been going to therapy," Nathan Fawcett said. "And taking medication. I don’t know if it’s helping. My mom insisted I go. I don’t want to go at all."
He hadn’t even been taking the medication properly.
When he was with Anne Sutton, he felt perfectly healthy, like he didn’t need any treatment at all.
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, "By the way, why did you become like this?"
Usually, a condition like his was caused by some kind of trauma, something that left a lasting shadow.
Otherwise, a person wouldn’t normally end up like that.
Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Nathan Fawcett froze for a moment before lowering his head. "It’s nothing."
"..." Seeing that he was unwilling to tell her, Anne Sutton didn’t press him further.
Forcing him to talk about something like this would only make him uncomfortable.
Even though they were together now, Anne Sutton wasn’t the type of person to pry into someone’s private matters.
She finished her meal at home with Nathan Fawcett and Ian, then left for the hospital.
There was a meeting that afternoon. When Anne Sutton entered, she saw Anna Linden already standing at the podium.
Seeing Anne Sutton arrive late, her eyes darkened. Anne quickly sat down. Chloe Chase glanced at her and said, "You’re late."
"There was traffic on the way, so I was delayed."
Anne Sutton felt helpless about the traffic jam at this time of day.
Chloe Chase asked, "How have things been with Ethan lately?"
"Things are fine," Anne Sutton replied. "Does Assistant Chase hope things go well between us, or not?"
Chloe Chase laughed. "Of course I hope things go well for you two. But don’t go too far and offend Dr. Linden. That won’t do you any good in the long run."
"I’m not afraid." Anne Sutton looked at Anna Linden, took out her phone, snapped a few pictures, and sent them to Vera Wells, who was still in Westhaven.
Although she really disliked living with Anna Linden, watching her work, Anne had to admit she was the kind of person she aspired to be.
...
After the presentation, Anna Linden held another short meeting to discuss some recent hospital matters before stepping down.
She glanced at Anne Sutton and said, "You, come with me."
Anne Sutton was now under her supervision, so she naturally had to obey.
She followed behind Anna Linden. Chloe Chase was there too. Anna Linden said, "You were late today."
"I was stuck in traffic."
"I don’t want to hear that excuse again," Anna Linden said. "There are many people in this hospital, and I can’t manage all of them. But you are under my charge now, and I never allow my people to be late."
"..." Anne Sutton looked at her assertive demeanor and nodded. "Yes, Dr. Linden."
Anna Linden glanced at her. "I hope you truly take that to heart. By the way, there’s a learning opportunity coming up. You should go. I’ll have Chloe Chase send you the form later."
"What kind of opportunity?" Anne Sutton asked curiously.
"A training seminar," Anna Linden said. "Faye Yorke will be there this time, and so will her grandfather."
Hearing about Faye Yorke’s grandfather, ’Isn’t that Academician Yorke?’
Anne Sutton grew excited. "Thank you, Dr. Linden."
’I can’t believe it. She seemed to dislike me so much before, yet she’s actually giving me a real opportunity.’
Anna Linden said to Anne Sutton, "I’ve reviewed your work reports recently. Anne Sutton, you are capable. Don’t waste your time on men all day. Focus your efforts on your work."
"I will." Even if she hadn’t said it, Anne Sutton knew what she needed to do.
