The need for Dron to take her was so strong.

One moment she was focusing on the words that were coming out of everyone’s mouth at the meeting and then the next thing she knew all she could think about was how turned on she was.

Not just by how good Dron looked all worn out and scruffy from his time out in the wilderness but by how he took charge in the meeting. How he looked out for everyone’s best interest and didn’t just force his will on everyone because he could.

Dron was a good man. The best that she’d ever been with and right now was exactly when she wanted to show him just how much he meant to her. She was going to show him with every last part of her body if she got the chance.

"Tine, we need a room." Dron called out.

Tempest wasn’t paying attention to anything more. She knew that Dron would take care of all the logistics. All she had to do was let him lead her.

After a few moments, they took a few steps toward one of the buildings that looked as if it were still under construction. Dron told her that this settlement was attacked before he had left the first time. Maybe they were in worse shape than Tine was making it seem.

Tempest vowed to do all that she could to help.

Dron continued to speak to the woman for a second before he started to walk again. Just before they made it to the front door, a tight cramp assaulted Tempest’s midsection. It was her bodies way of telling her that her heat was upon her.

She didn’t need the physical reminder. She knew it with every fiber of her being that she was extra needy. Her inner thighs were already coated with her inner slick. At least this time she didn’t have to worry about any other Alpha trying to take her away. No one would dare go up against Dron. Not when they already knew what he was capable of and what he meant to the cause they were fighting.

At least, Tempest hoped no one was that dumb.

Subtly, she looked around to see where Rynax was. The last thing she wanted to do was rub what was about to happen in his face. She was sure that he knew about an omega’s heat cycle and hoped that he wouldn’t hold it against her.

Tempest tried to take a step into the nearly broken-down house, but she couldn’t move forward. Dron was gripping her hand hard. When she looked up at him, there wasn’t a look of desire or need on his face but one of complete annoyance.

Did he not want to do this.

"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for this to happen now."

"Hush, I want this to happen as many times as it can. Sharing your heat with you is one of the greatest blessings I will ever recieve."

The words shocked Tempest, though by this point they really shouldn’t, he’s never been anything besides supportive when it came to what she needed sexually.

"Then why do you look like that?" She scoffed and gestured flippantly to his face.

"Shh...listen."

She tried to quiet her mind, but she couldn’t hear anything besides the people around them. The ones talking, other’s laughing, some still crying in grief.

"I don’t hear anything." Tempest said when she was sure that there was nothing out of the ordinary.

"Aliq!" Dron’s voice boomed out. It was so sudden it startled Tempest and made her jump.

Tempest looked around for the alpha that had protector her on her journey to the human settlement. He was standing with his back turned to Dron. His shoulders pulled back and taught. He was on edge.

"It’s not any of mine!" Aliq yelled back.

"What? What is going on?" Tempest questioned. The cramping continued to assault her body and she had to grit her teeth to get through the pain.

"You have to get inside. Now!" Dron ordered.

"Why? Tell me what’s going on."

It didn’t take long before the rest of the people in the settlement started to realize things were amiss. The humans all looked around confused, asking questions. The betas seemed to huddle together, and nearly every alpha in the settlement all turned to look in the direction Aliq was looking in. Most of them were snarling and growling.

"Dron!" Tempest hissed at him, shaking his arm to break him out of his focus.

"Moon gods above, not now. Not yet." Dron uttered as he continued to look in Aliq’s direction.

"Dron, I swear to god if you don’t tell me what’s going on I’m going to get pissed off." Tempest knew it was a tantrum she was about to throw, but she couldn’t stand not knowing. It was driving her absolutely mad.

"Someone is here. Someone we didn’t invite."

Tempest gulped down hard. There were only two reasons for anyone to show up here at the settlement. Either they were here to join the cause or they were here to cause problems.

Based on the way everyone was growling and getting ready for a fight, it didn’t take much for Tempest to figure out exactly which one it was.

"I have to fight. Please. Go inside." Dron turned to look at her again. She could see the distress all over his face.

When they were connected by his knot, he was useless, absolutely vulnerable. Tempest knew that it would kill him again if he had to sit out of the fight.

She wasn’t going to do that to do that to him. But she wasn’t going to find a dark hole and hide either. She was done with hiding.

The only people who were after them were the ones she’d wronged by killing their leader. She wouldn’t stand by and let more people die because of what she’d done. She would face this head-on no matter what Dron had to say about it.

She was sure he would have a lot to say about it.

"We’ll both fight."

Dron gaped loud, he was at a loss for words for a second.

"Absolutely not. There’s no way that I’m going to let you fight. Go inside. Stay safe."

"No, will anyone else be going inside to be safe? Why is my life worth more than any of theirs? Tempest questioned. By this time she could hear the marching, or rather the running, of the alphas just behind the walls.

Dron grabbed hold of her face gently, "your life is worth everything to me."

It was probably the most genuine thing that she’d ever seen Dron utter and he was already a pretty genuine guy. Things didn’t usually get under his skin at least that is how he was when she first met him but seeing him like this now she knew without a doubt that her cursed alpha mate had completely changed. She wanted to melt. Wanted to just give in to what he was saying but she knew that she couldn’t. Tempest had to stand her ground, or Dron would spend his life trying to save her.

She didn’t need to be saved. She needed to prove herself. If to no one then to herself.

"Dron, listen to me, I’m going to be okay. I can’t hide away while everyone takes the risk. I’ll be right by your side."

He shook his head, "That’s probably the worst place for you to be." He grumbled. "I’ll be trying to cut people’s heads off. My alpha instincts will completely take over. I don’t know that I’m going to be able to keep you safe."

"Tell me who in this settlement would be better at keeping an eye on me?" Tempest tilted her head. She knew that she was being difficult but she was sure that Dron could take it.

The roaring outside the small gate was growing louder and louder.

"You’re never going to just do what I say are you?" Dron shook his head.

"Do you want me to just do what you say?"

He turned his head slightly, "Later."

The sexual tension rose again. There wasn’t time for that. Wasn’t time for neither of them to give in to what they really wanted to do.

"Yes, later." Tempest stepped to his side and stared in the direction she saw most of the very few warriors gathering around. Near the entrance. "First we have to deal with—" Before she could finish her statement, a loud roar rumbled the rocks around them. Then slowly she watched as what she thought was just the side of the cliffs stood up.

The rocks were standing up...

She blinked a few times just to make sure she wasn’t hallucinating, but sure enough, she wasn’t.

The large rock creature roared again and Tempest nearly fell forward from staring so hard.

"What...in the hell...is that?" Tempest finally gathered herself enough to ask.

Dron blew out a breath of air.

"That is Anadi. Our first line of defense."
