Manaless Mage

Chapter 154 Overwhelming!

A few minutes earlier to the announcement…

Harry’s eyes lingered on the orange haired boy who was holding a bow and arrow for a few seconds before looking away.

‘He looks quite familiar. I just can’t remember where I’ve seen him before.’ He thought.

He racked his brain, trying to remember where he had seen the orange haired before, and after thinking for a few seconds, he finally remembered.

It was a some months back, at the training hall, when he met Nathan, he remembered seeing an orange haired boy beside him also.

His eyes squinted slightly as he stared at the orange haired boy, apart from being intrigued by his identify, he was also quite curious about his stats, so he scanned the combat mage’s stats, using [Probe].

‘Probe.’ Harry mumbled inwardly, activating his skill.

Immediately, a set of tabs appeared in front of his eyes, displaying the combat mage’s stats.

===========

Stanley’s stats were actually impressive, however, they couldn’t compare to either his or Nathan’s. His highest stat was his perception, which made sense, considering that his main weapon seemed to be a bow and arrow.

Harry’s gaze lingered on the weapon Stanley was holding for a few seconds, before activating [Probe] once more and scanning the weapon.

[Name: Green Bow]

[Rank: 3]

[Durability: 92%]

===

[Name: Thin Black Arrows]

[Rank: 3]

Harry’s eyes widened slightly in shepherd when he saw the rank of the bow and arrow Stanley was using.

It was leagues above the bows and arrows he saw at the academy’s weaponry.

There were only rank one weapons in the academy’s weaponry, and of course, there were bows and arrows among them also, however, they were a low less powerful when compared to Stanley’s.

Not only were the power of the bows and arrows a lot higher than those at the academy weaponry, but even their defense and durability were better.

Although it was only a bow and arrow; a weapon that wasn’t meant for close combat, it still had more power and defense than even some of the rank one weapons Harry saw in the weaponry.

Weapons and artifacts were graded from rank one to rank eight, and as one would expect, the higher the rank, the stronger and more powerful the weapon or artifact was.

Weapons and artifacts that were rank three above, were very expensive, and couldn’t be bought by just anyone. Especially the ones above rank five, those were even more expensive and were mainly used by adventures and mages.

For Stanley to have a rank three weapon, it was quite obvious that he was from a wealthy background, because that was the only way he would be able to afford such weapons.

Feeling curious, his eyes also drifted to Nathan’s sword, and he scanned it, using [Probe].

Almost immediately, another set of tabs appeared in front of him, displaying more information about the weapon.

===

[Bastard sword]

[Rank: 4]

[Durability: 98%]

[Power: 500]

[Defense: 426]

===

Harry couldn’t help but gasp when he saw the rank of the sword. Nathan’s weapon wasn’t just any weapon, but a rank four weapon. b𝚍no𝚟l.

Looking at the amount of power contained within that thin blade, a shiver couldn’t help but run down Harry’s spine.

Apart from the power, its defense was also very high, having a defense of more than 400 points.

It definitely made sense now, how he was able to block and deflect Farhen’s spells during their duel, if it was just any kind of sword, it would have unsurprisingly been destroyed by those attacks.

Harry also planned on getting a good weapon for himself, he couldn’t rely on the daggers he was borrowing from the academy weaponry, he had to get his own weapon.

There was no rule that forbade Elementalists from using weapons, most of them just decided against it, because of their pride in their spells and also that it might delay their spell-casting speed.

However, that would have to be later, as Harry didn’t have the money, neither did he know any good weapons dealer, where he could get one.

Just then, the instructor’s voice reverberated in the hall’s speakers, breaking him out of his thoughts and announcing the start of the competition.

[And now that the two teams are ready, let the competition begin!]

The moment the announcement was made, Nathan and the two members his team standing by his side immediately rushed forward, heading towards Team 13’s domain.

Nathan, being the faster one, closed in on the domain quicker than the other two. He held his sword tightly, as he readied himself to launch an upwards slash.

A frown appeared on Corey’s face when he saw the speed at which Nathan dashed at him.

The combat mage was very fast, and his movements seemed like blurs, but fortunately, he had already preparations, knowing that this kind of situation was sure to occur.

“Water Blast!” He shouted, just as Nathan was about to close in on him.

BLAST!

Immediately, a small water ball appeared in front of him, before exploding into a large blast that suddenly rushed towards Nathan, threatening to consume him.

Nathan, despite the powerful water blast heading towards him at rapid speed, had a calm smile on his face, as he stepped forwards before making a large downward slash.

SWOOSH!

SPLASH!

The sword slashed cleanly through the water blast, causing it to break into two, before disappearing into tiny blue particles.

The moment he slashed through the attack, Nathan didn’t waste any time and immediately lunged towards Corey, twisting his sword towards Corey’s shoulder, aiming for a stab.

Though he could have aimed at anywhere else, the reason he aimed for his shoulder was because he wanted to disrupt Corey’s spells.

Elementalist’s hands were one of the major contributors to their spell-casting, since it was required for them to make hand signs.

So Nathan planned on rendering Corey incapable of casting any spells, however, Corey was able to react quickly, as he had already channeled his elemental mana in preparation for a spell.

“Fire Boots!” Just as the sword tip was about to pierce his shoulder, Corey immediately shouted, causing a set of boots made purely of fire to appear around his legs, temporarily boosting his speed.

Using his increased, or rather, boosted speed, Corey immediately leapt backwards, narrowly escaping the sword that was about to pierce him.

He twisted his body to the side, and was about to cast another spell, when his eyes suddenly caught sight of a thin, black arrow flying towards him at rapid speed.

Standing in the distance, was an orange haired boy with a green bow held skillfully in his hands as he stared at Corey.

His hands were still on the strings on the bow, and from his position, it was clear that he was the one who launched the black arrow.

Corey gritted his teeth in annoyance, as he was forced to stop the channeling of his mana and dodge the incoming arrow.

Using the boosted speed from the fire boots around his legs, he immediately moved to the other side once more, successfully dodging the black arrow that went on to pierce the ground behind him.

Before he could even regain his composure, the sight of a kick heading towards his chest appeared in front of him, causing his eyes to widen in shock.

Due to him dodging the arrow, he wasn’t able to regain his momentum and could only watch as the kick landed squarely on his chest.

Thwack!!

His eyes widened in pain, as the force behind the kick sent him flying backwards by a few feet.

The huge amount of pain shot from his chest down to the rest of his body, and his mouth was forced open, as he spat out blood.

His body collided against that of the teammate who was standing behind him, and he was barely able to get back on his feet.

‘Damn it! I knew he was strong, but to think fighting him would be this difficult ?!’ Corey thought, frustrated at how the fight had been going.

His earlier plan had been to cast a few spells to hold Nathan back, and also summon another powerful spell to use to attack the archer standing in Nathan’s team domain, however, Nathan didn’t even give him any chance to breath!

And the archer standing at the back was also giving him problems also, all this was really frustrating.

Apart from that, there was still the other combat mage, and the Elementalist who charged forward with Nathan.

While he was busy engaging Nathan, they had already closed in on his other two teammates, and were busy launching attacks of their own!

In normal circumstances, he would have gotten enough time to channel his mana and cast his more powerful spells, but Nathan was overwhelming him!

The moment he landed on his feet, his eyes immediately widened once more as the sight of a sword descending downwards appeared in his vision.

He ignored the pain still assaulting him from his chest, and placed all his focus into channeling his mana as fast as he could, in preparation for another spell.

“Fire Skin!!!” He shouted, and a thin layer of fire rapidly started spreading around his skin, making him look like he was burning up in flames.

Slash!

However, his reaction time was still too late, as he wasn’t able to completely prevent the sword from slashing through his skin.

“Arrrgh!!”
