Chapter 313: Chapter 294: The Strict School Rules (Part 2)
’So these kinds of shortcuts really are unreliable. Looks like I’ll have to rely on my own calculations after all?’
Lloyd lamented inwardly, then looked up at the cluster of villas before him.
The place looked like a typical wealthy neighborhood, filled with exquisite, three-story villas, each complete with a small garden and a swimming pool. With Lloyd’s current net worth, he obviously couldn’t afford one.
"Yep, this is your dorm. I live over there—the one with the sunflower on the roof. See it?"
Dandy asked, pointing into the distance.
"Wait... this is a student dormitory?"
"Strictly speaking, it’s the honors student dormitory. I was only assigned a place like this after I got into the Space System. Before that, I was still squeezing into a two-person room. Not like you, getting such generous treatment right from the start."
Dandy smiled, patted Lloyd’s shoulder, and continued.
"Alright, I won’t go in with you. Go on, take a look around and get settled. If you need anything or aren’t satisfied with something, there’s a suggestion book by the door. Just write it down, and logistics staff will come help you out..."
As he spoke, he suddenly lowered his voice and added a warning.
"You seem like a young man full of youthful vigor, but as someone with experience, I have to warn you: don’t just bring back any pretty or cute upper or underclassmen... Seriously! Trust me on this!"
"I wasn’t even thinking about that until you brought it up..."
"Haha, good... Oh, right, the academy allows pets, so you can let your little cutie out of your pocket. I bet it’s been cooped up for a while, right? I saw it peeking its head out a few times."
Dandy added with a smile, looking at the pocket where Lloyd was carrying the kitten.
"Meow?"
The kitten immediately popped its head out, looking at Dandy with a puzzled expression as if to ask how he had been discovered.
’It’s probably because its pointy ears always stick out first whenever it tries to peek.’
"Hey? It can understand human speech? Nice. It’s very cute."
Seeing this, Dandy couldn’t help but reach out and gently poke the kitten’s round little head as a greeting.
The kitten extended a fluffy little paw and batted at Dandy’s finger, returning the greeting.
This made Lloyd wonder, ’Is my cat more sociable than I am?’
"Haha, well, I’m heading back to the lab to crunch some more data. Remember to read the freshman handbook carefully. It’s very important!"
Dandy smiled, waved goodbye to Lloyd, and then swiped open a Teleportation Gate, disappearing inside.
"He seems like a nice guy, huh?"
Lloyd asked the kitten.
"Meow~ Meow meow!"
The kitten waved its little paws. It was hard to tell exactly what it was trying to say, but at least it didn’t seem to be disagreeing.
"Alright, you’ve got a point."
Lloyd replied casually, setting the kitten down and leading it into his new dorm.
After a tour of the dormitory, he was left with a single impression—
It was too big, too luxurious, and too wasteful...
Not only did it have three floors, but there was even a basement. The front garden had a small fountain, and the back garden had a small swimming pool.
Inside, every piece of furniture, decoration, and amenity one could imagine was provided. It was all quite ’modern,’ featuring a ’mysterious refrigerator’ for storing food, a ’Magic water heater’ for hot and cold water, and an ’Orbit-type air conditioner’ for temperature control.
Aside from a computer and a television, it was very close to what you’d find on Earth.
Even quilts, blankets, and basic necessities like cooking supplies, drinks, and snacks were prepared. It was completely move-in ready.
But for one person to live in such a large house was truly a waste.
’If only I could bring my sister here to live with me...’
But then again, he had only just enrolled. How could all of this have been prepared in such a short time?
Lloyd was very surprised by this.
’They couldn’t possibly keep all of this ready at all times, just waiting for a qualified honors student to show up, right? The maintenance cost and difficulty would be enormous. That’s clearly unrealistic.’
Lloyd thought for a moment, then grabbed a bottle of juice from behind the living room bar, twisted it open, and took a small sip.
It was fresh, fragrant, and sweet, as if it had just been squeezed.
However, it still had a faint, unique trace of Spiritual Energy that was rapidly dissipating.
Lloyd took a closer look at the juice bottle’s packaging. As expected, there was no production date, yet it was perfectly fresh...
Even the various ingredients in the ’mysterious refrigerator’ in the kitchen were so fresh they looked like they would drip water.
’This is truly amazing. Can the effects of various Orbits really achieve this level of preservation?’
Pondering this, Lloyd explored the entire dormitory with great interest.
In the end, he counted 123 sets of Orbits, large and small, configured throughout the dorm. Besides providing convenient functions for daily life, they also offered features like soundproofing, protection, and privacy.
It felt less like living in a villa and more like living inside a huge pile of Orbits...
Although it felt a bit strange and reminded Lloyd of Elolo’s pitiable experience, considering it was comfortable, convenient, and completely free, he supposed he could reluctantly accept it.
’But I’m a commuter student, after all. How long will I even be able to live here?’
’Why did both Dandy and Director Zaza say the dormitory was so important?’
Lloyd was puzzled. He decided to first take a good look at the freshman handbook that both of them had repeatedly mentioned.
So, he took his newly opened bottle of juice, plopped down on the sofa that was large enough to roll around on like a bed, and began to read.
The handbook wasn’t very thick, but its printing and paper were very unusual. It felt like a kind of flexible metal, but without the coldness of metal, nor was it sharp to the touch.
The writing on it looked like it was engraved, but when he ran his hand over it, there was no indented trace. ’It must just be a very special artistic effect?’
He opened the handbook to the first page, which contained a single, rather abstract motto:
"When I look up at the starry sky, I have never felt humbled by my own insignificance."
The handwriting was so bad it could compete with the butler’s; both were suited to be doctors.
The sentence also seemed very abrupt and strange. ’Placing it in a freshman handbook doesn’t seem very appropriate, does it?’
The motto was unsigned, so there was no telling who left it. The handwriting was awful, and the words were so odd...
Lloyd grumbled inwardly as he turned to the second page.
This page contained a more normal ’Message for New Students,’ filled with encouraging and motivational words. The tone was finally back to normal.
But it was the sentence left at the very end that made a deep impression on Lloyd—
"In this era, knowledge is precious, and knowledge is dangerous. Please press forward with courage and wisdom—
May your path forward be lined with Radiant starlight;
May the road beneath your feet blossom with a hundred flowers."
’Huh? This blessing...’
Lloyd recognized this familiar blessing and couldn’t help but think of the specific occasions where it was used...
’Why do I have a bad feeling about this?’
’But in a formal setting like this, using such a formal blessing shouldn’t be a big deal, right?’
Lloyd didn’t dwell on it and turned to the next page.
As it turned out, the top of this page began with a sentence written in conspicuous red ink:
"At Mizkatoke, everyone must obey the school rules. No matter how strict or unreasonable you think they are, you must obey!"
Lloyd pressed his lips together, his mood turning serious as he looked at the strict and unreasonable school rules below—
Do not be delinquent on tuition payments!
Do not destroy public property!
Do not discuss important academy information with outsiders!
Do not fight or brawl outside of the designated dueling grounds!
Do not modify the school rules!
