Chapter 314: Chapter 295: Survival Tips???
Hmm... how should I put this...
These school rules...
They’re just so strict!
Lloyd didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
’Even kindergarten rules are more detailed and serious than this, aren’t they?’
’Is the academic atmosphere here at Mizkatoke a little *too* simple and liberal?’
He quickly read on, finding some supplementary explanations for the five school rules.
First was the matter of tuition. The supplementary notes provided more specific figures, and just as Dandy and Director Zaza had said, it was tiered.
The lowest "E-" rank not only required a huge annual tuition fee, but also all sorts of trumped-up additional charges that could easily reach astronomical figures.
It was as if they didn’t see poor students as people, but as walking ATMs...
And if you couldn’t pay, you were in violation of the school rules and would be ordered to withdraw.
On the other hand, the tuition for high-ranking students was not only drastically reduced, but they also received all sorts of cleverly named scholarships and benefits.
For example, at "B" rank, tuition was a symbolic one thousand Universal Coins a year. At Dandy’s "A+" rank, tuition was waived entirely. As for his own "S+" rank, he would be receiving a monthly stipend.
As for the lower ranks, you had to at least reach a "C" rank for the tuition to be reduced to around ten thousand a year. While still much more expensive than a regular university, it was at least within an affordable range.
After reading through it, Lloyd felt the disparity in treatment was just too vast—greater than the difference between a person and a dog. You basically had to be at least "C" rank to be treated as a "normal student."
He couldn’t help but shake his head and sigh internally:
’If I hadn’t gotten that rating from the old professor, I have no idea how I’d survive here...’
’Just how much trust does the Chief Judge have in me to push me into a place like this?’
Lloyd was once again exasperated. He continued reading the supplementary notes.
The supplementary notes for "No damaging public property!" seemed quite normal overall. It just used a rigorous and serious tone to comprehensively define the scope of "public property."
The most complaint-worthy parts were probably the bizarre and ugly statue in Knowledge Square and a type of bird called a "carrier pigeon."
These two items were listed separately, with special emphasis: do not destroy, do not deface, do not hunt, do not prey upon...
Considering the principle that behind every absurd rule lies an even more absurd story, Lloyd had reason to suspect someone had actually done these things...
Next came the supplementary explanation for the third rule: "No discussing important academy information with outsiders!"
Similar to the second rule, it used a rigorous and serious tone to define what constituted "important information."
The categories were numerous, including but not limited to the school’s environment, scenery, specific curriculum content, various fields of knowledge, and even information about fellow students and professors, and so on and so forth.
Basically, the only thing you were allowed to reveal to the outside world was the name "Mizkatoke."
And unlike the previous rules, this one had to be followed even after graduation. Otherwise, you would be directly expelled from the alumni records, stripping you of your status and history as a "Mizkatoke Graduate."
’Perhaps this is why the university seems so famous, yet so little information about it is available to the public?’
Lloyd thought for a moment before reading on.
The fourth school rule, "No fighting or brawling outside of the dueling grounds!", was simple and easy to understand. It didn’t have many supplementary notes, merely providing the locations of ten dueling grounds for students to resolve their disputes to their hearts’ content.
A "no fighting" rule is standard in almost every school, but at Mizkatoke, it was special—it only prohibited fighting *outside* the dueling grounds...
Lloyd recalled Dandy saying that the best way to resolve an academic dispute was to have a fight, and he once again marveled at the "simple" academic culture here...
As for the last remaining rule, "No amending the school rules!", it had no supplementary explanation at all. It was just a single, solitary line?
’So, assuming the principle that an absurd rule implies an even more absurd story still holds true... could someone have actually tried to amend the school rules?’
Lloyd found this amusing and couldn’t help but wonder what kind of brave soul would think of changing the school rules.
’I wonder if that hero wanted to make them stricter and more severe, or more relaxed?’
With that, he finished reading about the school rules and turned to the next page.
This page was a heavy hitter. The title alone made Lloyd sit up and pay attention—
"Thirteen Survival Tips for Mizkatoke"
Survival Tips???
You’ve got to be kidding me???
Lloyd was astonished and quickly read on.
1. Do not violate the school rules. Please respect every single one. The number of students who have died or disappeared because of this is enough to circle Mizkatoke five times over!
2. Do not get into conflicts with students or teachers outside of academic disputes. Try to be on friendly terms with everyone. The number of students who have died or disappeared because of this is enough to circle Mizkatoke twice over!
3. Do not discriminate against others based on their race, system, family background, etc. Please respect others’ privacy and secrets, as this is the basic condition for friendly coexistence. The number of students who have died or disappeared because of this is enough to circle Mizkatoke three times over!
