Chapter 2740: Descent

Chapter 2740: Descent

The guests on deck stirred when they saw Yani in danger, but none of them made a move. Having witnessed the fate that had befallen those three unlucky fools, no one wanted to be afflicted by Alati’s death energy and enslaved after death.

“Uncle Alfred, please save big sister Yani!” the kind-hearted Isabella urged the old butler.

“Big miss, the old master has entrusted me with your safety. I’m afraid I can’t help you with this.” The old butler refused to leave Isabella’s side. An earlier moment of carelessness had resulted in Isabella being held by a young man. That nearly made him break out in cold sweat.

It’s a relief that the man meant no harm, or else big miss would have been in danger. I can’t let the same mistake happen again.

Zu An was about to make a move when Tingxue said, “I’ll deal with that dragon. You save her.”

She charged forth without unsheathing her sword, unleashing a huge wave of sword ki.

Boom!

The bone dragon was torn apart by the sharp sword ki and plummeted into the ocean.

The ensuing powerful shockwave knocked Yani back. She was so weakened from being exposed to death energy that the shockwave made her spurt blood, and she also fell toward the ocean.

Alarmed, Zu An controlled the water to slow Yani’s rate of descent as he rushed over to grab her. Each time he came into close contact with her, he was awed by the vastness she carried in her bosom.

“Thank you...” Yani said weakly, looking unlike her earlier imposing war goddess image.

Zu An expelled the irrelevant thoughts from his head and asked, “How are you feeling?”

“Not too well.” Yani raised her hands, revealing the grayish-white energy covering them. The energy tried to creep up her arm, but she suppressed it from spreading further with her own ki. “The death energy assimilates my own energy. The more I try to expel it, the more it fuels its growth.”

Stopping the death energy only fueled its strength further, and not stopping it spelled immediate death. It was hopeless either way.

Just then, the ocean surface began to swirl. Zu An could feel the bone dragon regenerating, so he said, “Let’s return to the frigate first. Can you fly?”

Yani frowned. “It should be possible.”

Knowing she was putting on a strong front, Zu An said with a smile, “I’ll carry you.” He lifted her in a princess carry and brought her back to the frigate.

Startled, Yani stared at Zu An’s face, and slowly, she started feeling a little uncomfortable.

The others on deck also stared at them in bewilderment. Even Tingxue glanced over, as if questioning why they were flirting when they were fighting for their lives here.

However, it all made sense when they noticed the death energy afflicting Yani’s body. Her condition was poor enough to warrant such treatment.

“Big sister Yani, I have some medicine...” Isabella reached into her waistbag and fumbled around.

“Big miss, that’s indeed the legendary death energy. You mustn’t get close to them. No living being can get rid of death energy after being afflicted with it; it will continuously sap its host’s life energy until the host returns to death’s embrace.” Alfred stopped Isabella from heading to Yani’s side.

The guests who wanted to check the situation also retreated in fear. What the hell! That weird energy can spread?!

Alfred’s words were credible, especially after they'd witnessed the plight of those three fools.

“Is there no way to save big sister Yani?” Isabella asked anxiously.

“Only Longevity’s life priests or Reproduction’s offspring priests have the power to curb death energy with their tremendous life force, but this is death energy from Death’s envoy. Normal priests wouldn’t be able to deal with it.” Alfred looked around and confirmed there were no such priests onboard the frigate.

“Should we toss her into the ocean...” someone proposed. The crowd looked at him with weird eyes, so he stiffened his neck and continued, “I bet you had the same thought, too. If we keep her on the ship, the death energy on her will just grow stronger. When it finally blows up, all of us will be infected by it!”

The crowd stirred. As beautiful and powerful as Yani was, that was already a thing of the past. She was now a walking poison that could bring everyone down with her.

“We can’t do that! Big sister Yani is our comrade. How can we abandon her? What if your comrades abandon you when you’re injured?” Isabella raised her arms to guard Yani.

The crowd couldn’t do anything to Isabella, so they could only try to convince her.

“Miss Isabella, we know that you’re kind, but there is no other choice. We’ll die otherwise.”

“The death energy is still suppressed in her arms. She might still survive if we chop off her arms. Due to the death energy’s contamination, it’s unlikely she’ll be able to regrow her arms, but she should still be able to live a normal life with prosthetics.”

...

Hearing the discussions, Zu An said, “Let me give it a try.” He didn’t think the death energy was as terrifying as they put it.

“Don’t get infected yourself. You’ll only make things worse.” Many guests were alarmed. Yani was strong enough to temporarily suppress the death energy, but Zu An was far weaker. If he were to get afflicted by the death energy, it could act up right away, and that would put everyone on the deck in danger.

“Don’t worry. You can toss me overboard if I get infected,” Zu An replied coldly. He pushed aside the others and walked up to Yani.

The ocean billowed. Alati regenerated once more and let out a miserable howl.

“You’re too noisy!” Tingxue harrumphed. She unleashed another wave of sword ki at the bone dragon, causing it to scatter yet again. Then, she quickly turned her gaze back to Zu An with a tinge of concern in her eyes.

The crowd on the deck gulped. How is this loner that strong? She’s as powerful as Yani! No, she’s even stronger than Yani in some aspects, like how she easily dealt with Alati without coming into contact with it.

Zu An didn’t make a reckless move. He first examined the grayish-white death energy on Yani’s hands before placing his hand on her shoulder and channeling the Primordial Origin Sutra.

The encroaching death energy was intimidated by the Primordial Origin Sutra’s cleansing power and retreated.

Zu An breathed a sigh of relief. It works.

So, he grabbed Yani’s hands. He had noticed her meridians were different from a normal person's, so he figured it could be better to deal with the affected area directly.

“Careful!” Isabella warned in astonishment.

Zu An flashed a smile at her. “Don’t worry.”

He channeled his Primordial Origin Sutra. The death energy afflicting Yani’s hands melted like snow in the heat of summer and quickly vanished.

With the death energy purged, Yani swiftly regained her energy. She stretched her limbs and exclaimed in delight, “Thank you! I owe you my life.”

The crowd couldn’t believe their eyes. That fellow can control the ocean and cleanse death energy? What’s his background?

Alfred asked, “That young master over there, are you a Longevity or Reproduction worshiper?”

“Neither, I am a Deity of Memory worshiper.”

Zu An’s eyes widened as soon as he answered that question. He felt a compelling force descending upon him. The dark clouds in the sky stirred, forming a peculiar eye. A divine voice boomed in his mind, “You’re my worshiper? Why am I not aware of that?”
