Chapter 2741: Deity of Memory Meng!
Chapter 2741: Deity of Memory Meng!
Zu An’s surroundings morphed. There was no frigate, bone dragon, or even ocean. He was transported into a space with data waterfalls similar to those in the Matrix flowing around him. Taking a closer look, the flowing data looked peculiar, resembling a combination of 1s and 0s yet not quite.
But Zu An wasn't in the mood to fuss over such details. Cold sweat trickled down his body.
His previous experience with Mi Li allowed him to swiftly grasp the situation. He had drawn another universal deity’s gaze, and the other party appeared to be Mi Li’s nemesis—the Deity of Memory, Meng.
He hurriedly said, “Paying respects to the great Deity of Memory. I may not be your official worshiper, but I have always looked up to you. I once met a Mirror Scribe, and through him, I learned the importance of faithfully recording historical events. I have always aspired to pursue the path of memory.”
“Oh? If that is your aspiration, why do you worship Mi Li?” an impassive voice responded amid the flickering data.
Sweat rained from Zu An. Mi Li was the Deity of Memory’s nemesis. That was readily evident from how Mirror Scribes sought to record facts, whereas Time Scribes sought to alter recorded history. They were antithetical entities to each other.
It also belatedly struck Zu An that universal deities could read minds, so he resigned himself to his fate and replied, “Mortals like us have no choice in a universal deity’s summons.”
“Are you saying that Mi Li forced you to worship her?” There was a peculiar tinge to the voice.
“I’m afraid that’s not the case. Every universal deity wields compelling power to mortals like us. I willingly accepted the Deity of Chaos and Enigma back then,” Zu An mustered his courage and replied.
He dared not talk badly about Mi Li. If Meng turned around and bragged about this matter to Mi Li, he would die a dog’s death.
“So that’s what you’re worried about. Don’t worry, I won’t report you to Mi Li. Come under me instead, and I’ll protect you from Mi Li,” the voice said teasingly.
Crap, I forgot they could read minds.
Zu An gulped. He probed, “Can I worship you while maintaining my faith in Chaos and Enigma?”
“Hm?” Terrifying pressure suddenly crushed down on Zu An. “A greedy one, aren’t you?”
Every cell in Zu An’s body was quivering, and it felt as if he could disintegrate at any moment. His soul wouldn’t even have the chance to undergo reincarnation. He added, “This will allow me to be of greater value to you. If the Deity of Chaos and Enigma learned about my betrayal, they would be guarded against me. That would prevent me from acquiring important intelligence.”
“You’re interesting. I can see why you piqued Mi Li’s attention.” A chuckle echoed as the pressure lightened. “Speak. What mission did Mi Li assign you? Let me see if you are of sufficient value or not.”
“They tasked me to worship Chaos and Enigma by altering the true history recorded by your worshipers,” Zu An carefully replied.
“That scoundrel!” The Deity of Memory was infuriated. “That bitch Mi Li is going too far!”
Zu An was speechless.
“You have done well. Continue staying on that side and provide me with intelligence.” Meng appeared to be satisfied with the intelligence.
“Yes.” Zu An bowed. He carefully probed, “But how can I convince others I’m your worshiper?”
“Are you asking for benefits? You’re a cunning one.” Meng harrumphed. “What did Mi Li give you?”
Zu An hesitated before replying, “The Deity of Chaos and Enigma made me their envoy.”
Meng was speechless
There was a long silence before a roar echoed in the distance, “That lunatic! Only that bitch Mi Li would do something like that!”
...
It was a long time later before Meng said, “Since you’re an envoy on that side, I’ll make you a Memory envoy as well.”
Zu An was overjoyed. “Thank you, Deity of Memory!”
Hehehe, there’s nothing better than to butter up these...
His heart suddenly quivered, and he hurriedly emptied his mind lest Meng overhear his blasphemous thoughts.
“You’re too weak. If you’re killed by accident, my reputation will be sullied. Very well, I shall bestow you with the ‘Eye of Truth’ and ‘Annals of History’.”
Two specks of light descended upon Zu An. One fell into his eyes, and he vaguely sensed a slight change in his vision. The other fell into his hand and morphed into a mirror.
No wonder they're called Mirror Scribes. They do indeed have mirrors.
“Your mirror is much better than the ones bestowed upon ordinary Mirror Scribes,” Meng coldly said. “This mirror is called the ‘Annals of History’. If you ever find yourself in danger, you can use the River of History as a barrier to block your enemy’s attack. No matter how strong the attack is, it can’t traverse the River of History to hurt you.”
Zu An was delighted to hear that. With this to protect me, I’ll be nigh invincible!
“Aside from that, you also have the power to unleash the River of History and randomly toss your enemy into a segment of it.”
“Is there a restriction to that ability?” Won’t I be invincible if this mirror can be used defensively and offensively?
“Of course there is. You won’t be able to trap top experts in the River of History. The stronger they are, the shorter the duration you can trap them. This item is meant to buy you time so you can escape, not for you to do other stuff.”
Zu An smiled sheepishly. Oops, my thoughts were overheard.
“The Eye of Truth allows you to see through your enemy’s illusions and disguises, lest you die without knowing how,” Meng said.
Zu An’s heart felt warm. The Deity of Memory must truly care about me to give me so many defensive artifacts. I’m touched... Even the data waterfalls didn’t look as intimidating as they were before.
“It’s good that you know. You know what you have to do from now on.”
“Thank you for the generous bestowments. I’ll devote myself to you!” Zu An raised his head and tried to use the Eye of Truth. The data waterfalls vanished, and he saw a beautiful figure.
“Hmph!” A cold harrumph echoed, and Zu An’s eyes, nose, and mouth bled.
“What are you looking at?” Meng scoffed imposingly and coldly.
