Chapter 47 — The Watcher in the North

Aether didn't sleep that night.

Neither did Lyra or Aria.

The silver mark remained on the outer wall until sunrise.

It never moved.

It never released any obvious energy.

Yet Aether could feel that it was there.

Watching.

Waiting.

He stood several meters away from it, studying the strange symbol.

The system had already failed to analyze it.

That alone was enough to make him cautious.

“Can you remove it?” Aria asked.

“I could destroy the wall.”

She looked at him.

“That wasn't what I meant.”

“I know.”

Aether crouched beside the mark.

The Executioner's Blade rested at his side.

He didn't touch the symbol.

Instead, he circulated Origin Energy through his hand and carefully approached it.

The mark reacted.

A faint silver ripple spread across the stone.

[Origin Mark Resonance detected.]

[Origin type: Unknown]

[Secondary function: Unknown]

Aether withdrew his hand.

“It isn't attacking us.”

Lyra looked toward the cave entrance.

“Then why leave it here?”

“To let me know it can reach us.”

Aria frowned.

“So it's a warning?”

“Maybe.”

Aether stood.

“Or a message.”

He drew the Executioner's Blade.

The dark blade emitted a faint silver glow.

Aether raised it.

One precise strike.

SHING!

The section of stone containing the mark separated cleanly from the wall.

Aether caught the piece before it fell.

The silver symbol continued glowing.

He placed the stone inside his storage ring.

“If it wants to watch, let it.”

Aria crossed her arms.

“And what are you going to do with that?”

“Study it later.”

Aether turned toward the cave.

“First, we're strengthening the base.”

The next several hours were spent rebuilding.

Aether extended the formation beyond the cave entrance.

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

He carved new formation lines into the surrounding stone and connected them to the restored ancient formation.

The Origin Crystal Tree crystals he had collected were placed at four points around the cave.

The effect was immediate.

The formation activated.

[Secondary Formation Established.]

[Function: Detection]

[Function: Concealment]

[Function: Minor Defensive Barrier]

[Function: Origin Energy Stabilization]

[Coverage: 83 meters]

Aether looked at the result.

“Not bad.”

Aria walked around the formation.

“How strong is the barrier?”

“Against ordinary beasts? Strong enough.”

“And stronger cultivators?”

Aether shook his head.

“It won't stop someone far above us.”

Lyra nodded.

“So we still need more.”

“Yes.”

Aether looked toward the forest.

“Everything here is temporary.”

Aria smiled.

“You say that like you're already planning something much bigger.”

“I am.”

“What?”

Aether's gaze moved toward the distant mountains.

“A proper territory.”

Lyra looked surprised.

“You're already thinking that far ahead?”

“I need a place that can grow with us.”

He looked back at the cave.

“This is only the foundation.”

Aria's smile widened.

“I like that.”

By afternoon, Aether returned to cultivation.

His breakthrough to Stage 4 had increased his strength considerably, but he wasn't satisfied.

The northern region had made one thing clear.

There were still beings in this zone capable of hiding from his senses.

He needed better perception.

Better control.

Better understanding.

He sat beneath the Origin vein.

This time, instead of simply absorbing energy, he focused on his Origin Core.

The Executioner's Blade rested beside him.

Aether circulated his energy.

The blade responded.

A faint connection formed between them.

[Adaptive Resonance activated.]

[Current Understanding of Executioner's Blade: Increasing.]

Aether didn't force the process.

He allowed the weapon to communicate through Origin Energy.

Images surfaced briefly in his mind.

A battlefield.

Broken weapons.

Black skies.

A figure holding the same blade.

Then—

Aether saw something else.

A silver eye.

Watching from beyond the battlefield.

His eyes opened instantly.

The vision disappeared.

Aether stared at the blade.

“What was that?”

No answer came.

The sword remained silent.

But its resonance had changed.

[Adaptive Resonance: 33% → 35%]

Aether slowly exhaled.

The blade wasn't simply becoming stronger.

It was revealing fragments of its history.

He needed to understand those fragments before they became another mystery capable of threatening him.

Nearby, Lyra's cultivation suddenly surged.

Lightning erupted around her.

Aether turned.

Her Thunderheart Physique was absorbing the dense Origin Energy at an increasing rate.

Her breathing became heavier.

The lightning surrounding her body intensified.

[Lyra — Cultivation Analysis]

[Current: Origin Awakening — Stage 2]

[Breakthrough Progress: 91%]

Aether watched carefully.

“She's close.”

Aria stopped training and looked over.

“How long?”

“Could happen today.”

Lyra's aura continued rising.

Then the lightning suddenly collapsed inward.

BOOM!

A wave of energy spread through the cave.

Lyra opened her eyes.

Her pupils flashed with blue-white lightning.

[Breakthrough conditions approaching.]

[Stabilization required.]

Lyra smiled.

“I can feel it.”

Aether nodded.

“Don't force the breakthrough.”

“I won't.”

She resumed cultivation.

Aether returned to his own meditation.

Everyone was progressing.

Not because he carried them.

Because they were building their own strength.

That was exactly how he wanted it.

Near sunset, Aria approached Aether.

She carried her new spear.

“I want to ask you something.”

Aether looked up.

“What?”

“You said this weapon can evolve with me.”

“Yes.”

“Then how?”

Aether examined the spear.

“Through your growth.”

He pointed toward the blue core embedded beneath the spearhead.

“The weapon is connected to your Origin Energy. As your understanding of Azure Spear Arts improves, the weapon will adapt.”

Aria nodded.

“And if I become stronger?”

“It becomes stronger.”

“What if I discover another ability?”

“Then we can attempt to integrate it.”

Aria smiled.

“So it's not just a weapon.”

“No.”

Aether looked at her.

“It should become part of your path.”

She stared at him for a moment.

Then smiled.

“I like that.”

Aether stood.

“You should give it a name.”

Aria looked down at the spear.

“A name?”

“A weapon you intend to keep for years should have one.”

She thought for a while.

Then her eyes brightened.

“Starfall.”

Aether considered it.

“Starfall?”

“Because of the Starforged Physique.”

She raised the spear.

“And because one day I want every strike to feel like a falling star.”

Aether nodded.

“Then Starfall it is.”

Aria smiled.

“Good.”

Night fell.

Aether stood outside the cave alone.

The forest was silent.

Too silent.

He looked toward the northern region.

Nothing moved.

Then his Origin Detection suddenly activated on its own.

[Unknown Origin Signature detected.]

Aether's expression hardened.

This time, the system provided a distance.

12.4 kilometers.

Then the number changed.

12.1 kilometers.

Aether's eyes narrowed.

It was moving.

Toward him.

11.8 kilometers.

He drew the Executioner's Blade.

Aria and Lyra immediately came outside.

“What happened?” Lyra asked.

“Something is approaching.”

Aria gripped Starfall.

“How strong?”

Aether watched the distance decrease.

“Unknown.”

The number changed again.

10.6 kilometers.

Then—

It stopped.

Aether waited.

Nothing.

The system displayed another notification.

[Unknown Origin Signature has ceased movement.]

[Hostile intent: None detected.]

Aether didn't relax.

He stared into the darkness.

“It's testing our reaction.”

Aria stepped beside him.

“Then what do we do?”

Aether slowly sheathed his sword.

“We don't chase it.”

Lyra looked surprised.

Aether continued.

“If it wants us to enter the northern region immediately, there's probably a reason.”

He looked back at their newly strengthened base.

“We'll choose when we go.”

The three stood together beneath the night sky.

Far away, beyond the trees, a pair of silver eyes opened once more.

This time, however, they weren't looking at Aether.

They were looking at the sky.

A faint crack appeared across the distant darkness.

Something on the other side of the world had just noticed the same thing.

And the silver-eyed watcher whispered:

“The seal is weakening.”
