Infinte Origin
Echos Of The Forgotten
Chapter 147 — Echoes of the Forgotten
The spatial ring remained motionless beneath the enormous chamber, its interlocking segments suspended above a circular platform carved with countless symbols. Although the mysterious keeper had fallen silent, Aether could still feel faint fluctuations passing through the structure. They were weak, almost imperceptible, yet their rhythm suggested that the ring had not completely shut down. Whatever mechanism powered it was still functioning, even after countless years of abandonment.
Aether approached the platform cautiously, with Nyx following at his side. Her evolved body moved with a quiet confidence that had not been present when she was smaller, and the golden patterns in her eyes occasionally reflected the silver light of the ring. Blackfang remained near the staircase while Ironhide and Grimhorn watched the chamber's entrances. Behind Aether, Aria, Lyra, Seris, Sylvara, Elara, Evelyn, and Vaelira maintained a careful formation, ready to respond if the structure became unstable again.
"Don't touch the central section yet," Vaelira warned. She crouched beside one of the outer rings, studying the inscriptions. "The energy pathways are arranged in layers. The visible symbols are only the surface. There are additional formations beneath them, and some appear to have been deliberately disconnected."
Aether examined the same section without touching it. "Can you determine what those formations do?"
"Not completely. My family's research covered spatial compression, boundary stabilization, and the creation of temporary passages. This structure uses those principles, but its complexity is far beyond anything recorded in our surviving documents." Vaelira traced a symbol in the air, stopping just before her finger reached the stone. "If I activate the wrong sequence, we might damage the ring or destabilize the chamber."
"Then we don't activate anything," Aether replied. "First, we understand what we're dealing with."
He opened his System privately.
[Location Analysis initiated.]
[Structure: Ancient Spatial Transit Mechanism.]
[Primary function: Interspatial connection.]
[Current condition: Severely degraded.]
[Destination coordinates: Unavailable.]
[Anchor network: Incomplete.]
[Warning: Forced activation may cause spatial collapse.]
Aether's expression remained composed, but the information confirmed the keeper's warning. The ring was not simply a doorway that needed more energy. It was part of a larger network, and without knowing where the other end was located, pouring Origin Energy into it would be reckless.
He closed the interface and looked toward Vaelira. "The structure requires an anchor at the destination. Your crystal may help stabilize this side, but it cannot establish a connection by itself."
Vaelira looked at him with renewed interest. "You reached the same conclusion I did."
"Your explanation helped."
A faint smile appeared on her face. "You make it difficult to tell when you're complimenting someone."
"That sounds like a personal problem."
Lyra chuckled from behind them. "He's definitely complimenting you. He just refuses to make it obvious."
"I can hear you," Aether said.
"Good. Then I don't have to repeat myself."
Aria shook her head, although the small smile on her face showed that she was enjoying the exchange. The tension that had followed their encounter with the keeper eased slightly, allowing everyone to concentrate without feeling as though danger would emerge from every shadow.
Seris moved closer to one of the damaged pillars. She had been quietly examining the chamber since their arrival, using her Life Sense to distinguish living energy from the strange currents flowing through the ancient construction. "There is something else," she said. "The ring is damaged, but some of the energy inside it is still circulating. It doesn't feel alive, yet it isn't completely inert either."
"Could it be sustaining itself?" Elara asked.
"Possibly. Or something is supplying it with energy from another location." Seris frowned as she concentrated. "I can't identify the source. The energy is too faint and too different from ordinary life force."
Aether looked toward the center of the ring. That was another reason not to activate it prematurely. If a distant mechanism was still supplying power, changing the flow could affect something beyond the chamber.
Nyx suddenly raised her head.
Her ears angled toward the eastern wall, and the markings on her forehead brightened. A low growl escaped her throat.
Aether immediately turned. "What is it?"

Nyx walked toward a narrow section of the wall and sniffed the stone. She then pressed one forepaw against a shallow depression that appeared to be nothing more than another decorative carving.
A faint silver line illuminated beneath her paw.
Everyone became alert.
Aether stepped beside her, allowing Origin Sense to spread through the surrounding area. He detected a small fluctuation behind the wall, different from the energy signature of the spatial ring. It was weak, but it carried a familiar quality: the same kind of ancient resonance he had encountered in other unusual structures.
"Move back," he said.
Nyx obeyed without hesitation, returning to his side. Aether released a controlled thread of Origin Energy into the illuminated line. The wall responded with a soft vibration, and several concealed panels shifted apart, revealing a narrow compartment.
Inside rested a dark metallic plate covered in fine inscriptions. Unlike the ring's symbols, these markings were not arranged to control spatial energy. They resembled a record of observations, with several sections damaged beyond recognition.
Vaelira approached slowly. "This chamber contains more than a transit mechanism."
Aether lifted the plate carefully. It was surprisingly light, and the moment his fingers touched its surface, his System responded.
[Unknown historical record detected.]
[Origin signature: Ancient.]
[Record integrity: 31%.]
[Translation: Incomplete.]
[Recoverable information detected.]
Aether concentrated on the record, allowing the System to analyze its surviving patterns. The damaged inscriptions flickered faintly before several lines became readable.
[Record Fragment — Outer Observation Station]
[The boundary continues to weaken.]
[Signals have been detected beyond the fracture.]
[The Watchers have not responded to the last three transmissions.]
[The Northern Seal remains unstable.]
[Further observation suspended by order of the—]
The record ended abruptly.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Aether read the recovered lines again, making certain he had not misunderstood them. The Watchers. The Northern Seal. Both were names connected to mysteries that had remained unresolved, and now they appeared together in a record associated with a structure far older than any known modern civilization on Earth.
Vaelira's expression had become unusually serious. "You recognize those terms?"
"I recognize the names, not their full meaning." Aether turned the plate slightly, checking for additional inscriptions. "We have encountered clues connected to the Northern Seal before. This record suggests that it was already unstable when this station was operating."
"And the Watchers?" Sylvara asked.
"We still don't know who they were, whether they were an organization or something else, or why they stopped responding."
Lyra folded her arms. "At least we're finally getting information instead of another ancient voice speaking in riddles."
"Fragments of information," Vaelira corrected. "The record is damaged, and we cannot establish when it was written. We shouldn't assume that the situation described here is still the same."
"She's right," Aether said. "This gives us leads, not answers."
He stored the plate securely. He would not allow the discovery of one mystery to make him careless about the others. The Watchers might have been responsible for observing the boundary, maintaining it, or studying it. The Northern Seal might have been connected to the same network, or the record might have referred to an entirely separate location. Until they found more evidence, any conclusion would be premature.
Nyx nudged his hand, drawing his attention away from the plate. Aether scratched the fur behind her ear, and she leaned against him with a quiet rumble. He had nearly overlooked the hidden compartment, but Nyx had sensed the resonance before any of them noticed it.
"Good work," he murmured.
Her tail moved once.
Aria watched them with a fond expression before turning toward the others. "If there are more compartments like that, we should search the chamber before leaving. We might find something useful without touching the ring itself."
"Agreed," Aether said. "But nobody activates an unknown formation. If you find anything, call the rest of us."
The group divided into pairs and began a systematic search. Blackfang remained near the staircase, while Ironhide and Grimhorn guarded the central platform. Vaelira inspected the spatial inscriptions, Seris examined the energy fluctuations, and the others searched the pillars and walls. Aether moved between them, using Origin Sense to identify concealed mechanisms without forcing them open.
They discovered two additional inscriptions, several damaged storage recesses, and a broken crystalline device whose original function remained uncertain. None provided a complete explanation, but each added another fragment to their understanding of the station.
After nearly an hour, Aether returned to the ring and reviewed his findings. The structure was connected to a larger spatial network, the network had suffered serious damage, and the station's records referred to both the Watchers and the unstable Northern Seal. Those connections were significant, but the evidence still did not establish whether the Eye, the Origin Fracture, the Northern Seal, and the greater cultivation world shared a single origin.
He would need more information before drawing that conclusion.
Aether opened his System one last time.
[Current Realm: Origin Tempering — Stage 9]
[Origin Points: 975 / 1,600]
[Infinite Origin Physique Development: 1.00%]
[Physique Copy and Integration: Unlocked]
[Mission Function: Locked]
[System Shop: Locked]
He dismissed the interface. There was no immediate reward for discovering the record, but information could be more valuable than Origin Points when it prevented a disastrous decision.
"We have enough for today," he announced. "We'll document everything, secure the route back, and return to the surface. I want the territory informed about what we've discovered, and I want to review our existing records before we decide where to investigate next."
Vaelira nodded. "The spatial research will take time. I also need to examine the crystal and determine whether it can safely serve as an anchor."
"Do that without trying to force the ring open."
"I wasn't planning to."
"Good."
As the group prepared to leave, Aether glanced back at the enormous mechanism. It had offered them a possible route into a greater world, but it had also revealed evidence of older problems that might still be unfolding. The Watchers had gone silent, the Northern Seal had been unstable, and the boundary had continued to weaken. None of those facts explained why the Eye had appeared over Earth, but they made it increasingly difficult to believe that the changes affecting his world were isolated events.
Aether turned away from the ring and followed his companions toward the staircase, with Nyx walking beside him and the three Origin Shadows guarding their retreat.
He had entered Frostveil searching for answers about Blackridge and the spatial relics. Instead, he had found evidence of a network that might connect distant worlds, a historical record naming the Watchers, and another clue concerning the Northern Seal.
For now, he would return to the territory, strengthen what he had built, and investigate each lead carefully. The unknown world beyond the boundary could wait until the path was safe. The mysteries already within his reach could not be ignored.
And somewhere beyond the broken network, something had once been listening.
Whether it was still listening now remained unknown.
