Infinte Origin
Beyond The Broken World
Chapter 146 — Beyond the Broken World
The darkness behind the pillars began to move.
Aether stood at the front of the group, his gaze fixed on the silver strand extending from the cracked crystal toward the enormous spatial ring. The structure continued rotating, and with every revolution, the air inside the chamber became heavier. He could feel the fluctuations through Origin Sense, but the energy was too complex for him to understand completely. It did not resemble the ordinary Origin Energy that flowed through his body or the spatial power Vaelira manipulated. Instead, several distinct layers seemed to overlap, each following a different pattern while remaining connected to the same source.
Nyx remained beside him, her golden eyes tracking the darkness. Blackfang stood on Aether's other side, while Ironhide and Grimhorn manifested behind them. The three shadows had recovered enough energy to fight again, but Aether had no intention of throwing them into an unknown situation without understanding the threat. Behind him, Aria held Starfall ready, Lyra's Thunderheart Physique released faint sparks of lightning, and Vaelira continued monitoring the Spatial Origin Crystal.
The mysterious voice spoke once more.
"Those who enter through the broken path must answer one question. Do you seek what was lost, or what was forbidden?"
Aether considered the words before responding. "We came here because the structure led us here. We haven't decided what we're seeking yet."
A brief silence followed.
"An honest answer. Unusual."
The silver strand tightened around the spatial ring, and a section of the darkness between the pillars gradually took shape. It resembled a human silhouette, but its outline repeatedly dissolved and reformed. No face could be distinguished, and its body appeared to be composed of overlapping fragments of light and shadow. Aether's Origin Sense detected no conventional life force, yet the presence possessed an awareness that was impossible to mistake.
The System responded.
[Unknown entity detected.]
[Classification: Incomplete.]
[Origin Energy signature: Unstable.]
[Threat assessment: Inconclusive.]
Aether did not let the notification influence his judgment. An incomplete scan did not automatically mean the entity was invincible, nor did it mean that it was harmless. Until he learned more, caution was the sensible choice.
Vaelira stepped slightly forward, her attention fixed on the enormous ring. "What is this place?"
The figure turned toward her.
"A remnant of a connection that once crossed the Origin Fracture. The structure you see was not built to imprison a creature or conceal a treasure. It was built to preserve a path."
Vaelira's fingers tightened around the Spatial Origin Crystal. "A path to where?"
"Beyond the fragment that you call your world."
The chamber fell silent.
Aether's expression remained composed, but his attention sharpened. The answer confirmed that the structure was connected to something beyond their current world, although it did not yet reveal how far that connection extended or what waited at the other end.
"Are you saying there's another world beyond this one?" Lyra asked.
"Worlds are not always separate in the way mortals imagine. Some were born apart. Others were divided. Still others were connected before their inhabitants learned to name the sky above them."
The figure raised one indistinct hand toward the rotating ring. Silver light spread across its surface, revealing countless inscriptions that had remained hidden until now. The symbols were arranged in concentric circles, but several sections were missing, leaving gaps through which darkness could be seen.
"The Origin Fracture divided what once existed as a greater whole. The fragments did not all share the same fate. Some remained isolated, some drifted into distant layers of existence, and some retained their connections to places beyond their own boundaries."
Aether glanced at Vaelira. Her expression had changed. She was listening with the concentration of someone who had spent years searching for an answer without realizing how much larger the question truly was.
"Does that mean Earth was part of that greater world?" Aether asked.
The figure turned toward him.
"That question cannot be answered from the evidence before you. The existence of a fracture does not prove that every fragment came from the same origin, nor does the presence of a path reveal where its destination once belonged."
Aether accepted the answer without argument. He preferred an incomplete truth to a confident lie.
"Then show us what you can prove."
For the first time, the figure remained silent for several seconds. The spatial ring slowed, and the silver strand withdrew from the dark crystal before splitting into several branches. Each branch connected to a different section of the ring, illuminating a pattern that resembled a map.

The chamber changed.
The pillars faded into the background as translucent images appeared above the floor. A vast landscape emerged, filled with mountain ranges that extended beyond the horizon. Floating islands drifted among immense clouds, while rivers of luminous energy wound through the valleys below. Far in the distance, enormous cities occupied the slopes of mountains, and structures resembling palaces rose above the clouds.
The images were incomplete and lacked sound, but the scale alone was astonishing.
Aether watched carefully. This was not merely another hidden chamber or isolated inheritance ground. If the image represented a real location, it depicted a civilization that had developed far beyond anything modern Earth could currently offer.
The image shifted, revealing several figures standing atop a stone platform. Their clothing and weapons differed, but each person radiated an energy that made the surrounding space distort. The image could not reveal their exact cultivation realms, and Aether did not pretend otherwise. Still, the difference between their presence and that of ordinary modern cultivators was unmistakable.
"They look like cultivators," Elara murmured.
"They probably are," Aether replied. "But we don't know when this image was recorded or whether those people still exist."
The figure appeared to acknowledge his caution.
"This record preserves only fragments of what the structure once observed. The locations may have changed. The civilizations may have risen or fallen. The people you see may have lived long ago, or their descendants may still walk beneath those skies."
The images faded, leaving the spatial ring floating in darkness once again.
Vaelira took a slow breath. "My family spent generations studying spatial Origin Energy. We believed certain spatial structures could connect distant locations without requiring ordinary travel, but we never discovered anything on this scale."
"Your family found fragments of a much older principle," the figure answered. "Understanding a door is not the same as understanding the world beyond it."
Vaelira looked at the Spatial Origin Crystal in her hand. For a moment, she seemed tempted to ask another question, but she finally lowered the crystal and allowed the information to settle.
Aether turned his attention back to the figure. "Can this structure open the path?"
"It can attempt to restore a connection. Whether the connection remains stable depends on the condition of the structure, the energy available, and the destination itself."
"And what happens if it fails?"
"The consequences cannot be predicted with certainty."
"Then we're not opening it today."
Lyra looked at him in surprise, while Aria gave a small nod of approval. Aether had no interest in gambling the lives of his companions simply because they had discovered something extraordinary. The guardian's destruction had already destabilized the vault, and none of them yet understood the full mechanism controlling the ring.
The figure did not object.
"Your restraint may preserve the opportunity you have found. The structure requires repair before it can safely sustain a passage."
Aether studied the missing sections of the inscriptions. "Can we repair it?"
"Some of the damage can be corrected. Other portions require knowledge and resources you do not currently possess."
"Then tell us what we need."
The silver lights above the ring rearranged themselves, forming a sequence of symbols. Aether could not interpret most of them, but he recognized several repeating patterns that resembled the spatial inscriptions inside the vault. Vaelira moved closer, carefully comparing the symbols with the markings on her crystal.
"The first requirement is a stable spatial anchor," she said slowly. "The Spatial Origin Crystal may serve that purpose, but it won't be enough on its own. The ring needs a second anchor at the destination."
The figure inclined its head.
"Correct. A path cannot remain stable if one end has no point of reference."
Aether understood the implication. Even if they repaired the structure here, they could not safely establish a permanent connection without a corresponding anchor on the other side. The greater cultivation world, if that was indeed where the passage led, could not simply become accessible whenever they wished.
That limitation made sense. It also meant that their discovery was only the beginning.
"Can the structure be used to send a message?" Aether asked.
"Not in its present condition. The connection is incomplete, and the destination is not sufficiently identified."
Aether considered the answer before looking at the staircase behind them. They had entered the vault through a path beneath Frostveil, defeated its guardian, and uncovered a structure that might connect their world to a much greater civilization. Yet they had not found a safe route through it, a reliable way to communicate across it, or proof of what the greater world looked like in the present day.
There was still much to discover.
The figure began to fade.
"Wait," Aether said. "Who are you?"
The silhouette paused, its edges flickering as the spatial ring continued to rotate.
"I am the remaining record of a keeper entrusted with the path. My original identity has been lost. I cannot tell you who created this structure, and I cannot determine why the fracture occurred."
"Then what can you tell us?"
"Only this: the path was not meant to remain closed forever. If the energy flowing through your world continues to increase, other connections may begin to awaken. Some may lead to knowledge. Others may lead to dangers that your world is not prepared to face."
The figure disappeared.
The dark crystal dimmed, and the enormous ring gradually returned to its slower rotation. The chamber did not collapse, but the silver inscriptions stopped illuminating one after another until only a few remained visible.
For several moments, nobody spoke.
Then Lyra released a breath. "So we found a possible connection to an entire cultivation world, and all we got was a warning that it might be dangerous."
"We also learned that the structure can potentially be repaired," Vaelira replied. "And that the connection needs an anchor on the other side. That's more information than my family ever possessed."
Aether nodded. "We'll record everything we learned and examine the structure carefully. We won't attempt to open a passage until we understand the risks and have a way to stabilize both ends."
Aria moved closer to him. "And after that?"
"After that, we'll decide whether the journey is worth taking."
She studied his expression before smiling faintly. "I suppose you wouldn't be satisfied leaving a mystery like this alone."
"Not when it could affect our future."
Aether glanced toward Nyx, who had settled beside him. He rested his hand against her neck, feeling the steady warmth beneath her evolved fur. Whatever lay beyond the boundary, he would not allow the pursuit of power to make him careless with the people and companions who had chosen to stand beside him.
For now, the group had a clear objective: understand the spatial ring, identify the resources required to repair it, and determine whether the destination could be reached safely. The journey into the greater cultivation world would come later, when they were prepared rather than merely curious.
Aether looked once more at the ancient structure.
The Eye had transformed Earth, and the Origin Fracture hinted at a history far greater than he had imagined. He still did not know why the Eye had appeared, why his Infinite Origin Physique was unique, or how the boundary beneath Frostveil fit into the larger picture.
But for the first time, he had evidence that the world beyond Earth might offer answers.
And Aether Draven had never been the sort of person to ignore an opportunity simply because the truth was difficult to reach.
