Xavier got in and started the engine.

The Panamera’s low controlled sound filled the car park. Kelvin was still standing outside doing his moment. Looking at the car with the particular reverence he reserved for it every single time. Xavier watched him in the rearview mirror for exactly three seconds.

Then pulled out.

The campus car park exit fed into the main road and Xavier joined the Friday afternoon traffic without rushing. The city was doing its end of week thing. People moving with the slightly looser energy of a Friday that had decided the working portion of the day was functionally over even if the clock disagreed.

Second manufacturing payment today, he thought. Patricia said completion documents are ready.

His phone buzzed on the passenger seat. He checked it at a red light.

Patricia.

Patricia: Manufacturing company completion documents ready. Second payment required to finalise ownership transfer. Seller confirmed available until 6PM today.

He checked the dashboard clock. 4:17PM.

Plenty of time, he thought.

He called her from the car.

"Send me the documents," he said when she answered. "I’ll review and sign within the hour."

"Already in your email," she said. "This completes the ownership transfer Xavier. Once the second payment clears you have full title."

"I know," he said. "Thank you Patricia."

He hung up and drove.

He was back at the hostel by 4:48PM.

Mama Elizabeth’s door was open when he came up the stairs. She looked at him. Looked at the time on the wall clock. Looked back at him with the expression of someone who had noted that he was home earlier than usual on a Friday and had opinions about what that meant for the trajectory of his evening.

"Early today," she said.

"I had things to handle," he replied.

She nodded once. Handed him a container without being asked. He took it without arguing. That particular battle had been decided months ago and went inside.

He sat at the desk. Set the container to one side. Opened the laptop.

Patricia’s email was already there. The completion documents clean and well organised the way Patricia always organised things. Everything in the right order, signature pages clearly marked, supporting documents attached with logical labels.

He read through them properly.

Not the quick scan he gave acquisition overviews when the USB document had already validated the numbers. Proper reading. Fifteen minutes of actual attention because final ownership transfers deserved it.

Clean, he noted. Revenue history consistent with the overview. Three long term client contracts confirmed active and transferring. Five employee contracts transferring cleanly with continuation clauses. He scrolled to the final page. Full ownership passing to Xavier Cole upon receipt of second payment.

He signed digitally through Patricia’s secure portal.

Then opened his banking app.

He checked his remaining daily cap first. The Friday cycle had left the $5,000 buffer intact. He’d learned that lesson at Selene’s dinner and had no intention of repeating it.

$475,000 required, he noted. Current balance $8,317,194 after today’s rebound landing. He ran the numbers quickly. Payment drops balance to $7,842,194. Standard rebate returns $950,000. Balance rises to $8,792,194. Asset Rebound triggers in 72 hours additional $1,425,000. He looked at the ceiling. Final balance after full rebound — $10,217,194.

Past ten million, he thought. Finally becoming a tenlionaire.

He transferred the payment.

$8,792,194, he thought. Past eight million.

He looked at the investment portfolio tracker.

$2,280,000 of $3,000,000, he noted. $720,000 remaining to complete the quest.

He called Vincent.

"Second payment processed," he said when Vincent answered. "Patricia will confirm completion."

"I’ll notify the sellers," Vincent said. "Formal ownership transfer Monday morning." A brief moment. "Xavier — two more opportunities came in this week. Both worth your attention."

"Send them tonight," Xavier said. "I’ll review over the weekend."

"Both smaller than the manufacturing company," Vincent said. "Combined asking price around $800,000."

$800,000 combined, Xavier thought. $2,280,000 plus $800,000 equals $3,080,000. That completes the quest with $80,000 to spare.

With these two the mission is done, he thought. Finally.

"Send them tonight," he said. "I’ll move on the first one Saturday morning. Second one Sunday."

"Both in the same weekend," Vincent said. Not a question. Just noting it.

"Good," Vincent said. And hung up.

Xavier set the phone down and opened Mama Elizabeth’s container.

Proper food. The kind she always made without apology. He ate at the desk and looked at the investment portfolio tracker on his phone screen between bites.

$2,280,000, he thought. $720,000 remaining. Two overviews arriving tonight. Asset Rebound from the second payment landing Monday.

The end of the quest is visible, he thought. Actually visible.

His phone buzzed. Amira.

Amira: module five. Did you look at it yet.

Xavier looked at the message.

Module five, he thought. I promised.

He looked at the laptop. The completion documents still open. Vincent’s two new overviews arriving in his email as the notification landed simultaneously.

Two things, he thought. Module five and two acquisition overviews.

Xavier: looking at it now

Amira: Xavier

Xavier: Amira.

Amira: are you actually looking at it or are you doing something else and telling me you’re looking at it

Xavier looked at the acquisition overview that had just arrived. Then at Amira’s notes open in another tab on the laptop.

Xavier: both

Amira: 😑

Xavier: multitasking is a skill

Amira: module five is not a multitasking subject. It needs actual attention.

Xavier: it has my attention

Amira: Xavier

Xavier: Amira.

Amira: tonight. All of module five. Promise me again.

Xavier: I promise sweetheart

Amira: don’t call me that when you’re being evasive

Xavier: goodnight sweetheart

Amira: 😑😑 goodnight Xavier. Module five. All of it.

He put the phone down and almost smiled.

Module five, he thought. Two acquisition overviews from Vincent. Asset Rebound Monday. Quest at $2,280,000 of $3,000,000.

He opened both tabs simultaneously. Amira’s module five notes on the left. Vincent’s first overview on the right.

Manageable, he thought.

Probably.

$8,792,194, he noted. Cap hit by the payment itself. Clean.

He leaned back in the chair and looked at the ceiling for a moment.

Eight million, he thought. Manufacturing company fully acquired. Quest at $2,280,000. Two overviews incoming. Module five open on the laptop.

Everything right on schedule, he thought.
