Chapter 119: Corpse Mountain Asura’s Wrath ( BONUS COLLECTION Chapter )
Far away from Blackstone Mountain, in three different hidden locations, the remaining three bases of the Passion Sect were simultaneously struck by a disaster.
At a Bamboo Peak, Blood Hand Han Kuang was sitting cross legged, supervising the final stages of his node. Suddenly, the blood red light of the formation turned a chaotic, violent purple.
BOOM
A massive backlash of spiritual energy erupted from the central platform.
"Pfft!" Han Kuang spat out a mouthful of black blood, his face instantly turning pale. Around him, dozens of his disciples collapsed, their meridians teared from the violent shockwave.
At Netherwood Valley, Poisonous Scorpion Li Mei suffered the exact same fate. The backlash shattered three of her defensive flags and she was sent flying, coughing up blood continuously.
At Ashen Ridge, Corpse Puppet Ma Teng barely managed to shield his heart with his Qi, but the backlash still cracked two of his ribs.
"What the hell is happening?!" Han Kuang roared, wiping the blood from his chin. His face was as black as the bottom of a pot.
The backlash wasn’t just a minor fluctuation, it was a catastrophic failure of the array’s core. Because the four nodes were linked to form the grand Tier 5 formation, the explosion at one node sent a destructive shockwave through the spiritual veins, directly injuring the cultivators at the other three bases.
"You bunch of trashes! What the hell are you doing over there?!"
Han Kuang crushed a communication jade slip, his voice transmitted through the spiritual network with furious killing intent. "The array at one of your node collapsed! Do you know how many of my people were injured by the backlash?!"
A moment later, Li Mei’s cold, venomous voice echoed in his mind. "Han Kuang, stop yelling. I already checked the situation and it seems only Zhao isn’t answering. My spiritual sense can’t lock onto his node at all. It’s completely blocked."
"Blocked?" Ma Teng’s voice chimed in with a hint of suspicion. "Blackstone Mountain’s node is the core of the formation. How could it be completely blocked? Zhao, answer me! If you messed up the grand plan, I’ll refine you into a corpse puppet."
But what the got in return was silence.
The three leaders communicated through their spiritual senses, their faces becoming incredibly ugly. They waited for another quarter of an hour, but Overseer Zhao’s base remained completely silent. It was as if the entire location had been erased from the face of the earth.
"Something is wrong," Li Mei said, narrowing her eyes. "Zhao is a Peak Foundation Establishment Realm expert. Even if he died, his soul lamp in the sect would extinguish and his life link jade slip would shatter. But his slip is just unresponsive."
"I’ll check," Han Kuang growled.
He reached into his robe and pulled out a small red mirror. This was a Soul Searching Blood Mirror, a rare item used to remotely sense the life auras of those whose blood they had collected. Since Mo Feng was the core catalyst for the array, Han Kuang had a drop of his blood.
Han Kuang poured his spiritual energy into the mirror. The mirror’s surface rippled and a hazy image slowly formed.
When the image cleared, Han Kuang’s pupils contracted violently. A cold sweat instantly broke out on his forehead, his hand began to tremble so much he nearly dropped the mirror.
"What... what is this..." Han Kuang muttered as his voice lost all its previous arrogance.
"What do you see?!" Li Mei and Ma Teng urged.
Han Kuang didn’t answer. He quickly formed a hand seal, projecting the image from the mirror into their base for the other two to see.
The projection showed a massive, ruined underground cave. The ground was littered with hundreds of unrecognizable corpses. The central array was completely destroyed, reduced to scorched rubble. And in the center of the carnage lay the blood tags which they could confirm of Overseer Zhao, Liu Ruyan and Mo Feng.
Then slowly the projection faded. The three leaders stood in silence.
For a moment, no one spoke.
Then, Li Mei let out a cold snort. "So, Zhao’s base was wiped out. A hundred disciples and him being a Peak Foundation Establishment Realm expert, still all got killed. What a bunch of useless trash. The Cloudwater Sect must have sent a Core Formation elder to ambush them."
"Exactly," Ma Teng agreed with tone indifferent. "These disciples are just cannon fodder, they die all the time. It’s a pity we lost the materials for the array but our lives are more important. Let’s just pack up and retreat—"
"WAITT!" Han Kuang suddenly screamed. His face was completely drained of color, looking like a dead man. "You idiots! Don’t you realize who was in that cavern?!"
Li Mei frowned. "Zhao and his trash team. So what?"
"Mo Feng!" Han Kuang roared, his eyes with with panic. "Mo Feng was the one secretly overseeing the core node and he is dead now."
The moment that name was spoken, the atmosphere in the other two bases seemed to turn cold.
Li Mei’s face turned ghostly pale. Ma Teng’s legs gave out and he collapsed onto his stone throne, his teeth chattering uncontrollably.
They didn’t care about Overseer Zhao. They also didn’t care about the hundred disciples. In the demonic path, the weak were meat and the strong were butchers.
Death was a daily occurrence.
But Mo Feng... Mo Feng was not just some random disciple.
Mo Feng was the beloved and the only grandson of Corpse Mountain Asura Mo Tianhen.
In the cultivation world, Mo Tianhen’s name was synonymous with absolute terror. He was a Peak Core Formation Realm expert and his title, The Moutain Corpse Asura, was earned through rivers of blood. He practiced the forbidden ’Blood Sea Soul Devouring Art’. It was said that three hundred years ago, to break through a bottleneck, Mo Tianhen had personally refined an entire mortal city of three hundred thousand people into a single, massive blood pill. He had killed his own three wives and dozens of his direct disciples just to test the limits of his demonic arts.
He was a madman.
A monster who cared for nothing in this world except his own cultivation and his beloved grandson, Mo Feng.
Mo Tianhen was notoriously doting on Mo Feng. He had given the arrogant young man everything he wanted, including many High Grade resources that allowed Mo Feng to reach Peak of Qi Condensation Realm Realm at such a young age even with his trash talent.
If Mo Tianhen were to found out that his beloved grandson had been killed and not even his body is there to recover under the protection of the Passion Sect’s mission...
The thought alone made the three leaders feel like they were standing on the edge of a cliff, with a demon staring at them from the abyss.
"H-He... he will kill us all," Ma Teng whispered with trembling voice. "If the Mountain Corpse Asura learns we failed to protect his only grandson, he won’t just kill us. He will refine our souls into blood slaves and let us suffer for tens of thousands of years!"
"We can’t let him that find out!" Li Mei said as her eyes darting around in panic. "We have to flee! Leave the sect! Flee to the barren lands!"
"Flee? Where can we hide from a Peak Core Formation Realm expert?!" Han Kuang roared back. "His blood sensing techniques cover thousands of miles! If we run, he’ll hunt us down and slaughter our ENTIRE BLOODLINES."
The fear of the Blood Sea Asura was deeply ingrained in their souls.
"Then what do we do?!" Ma Teng cried out.
Han Kuang’s eyes suddenly turned vicious, filled with a desperate crazy light. "We have to catch the killer. The killer might still be at Blackstone Mountain, If we capture him, or at least get his head, we can present it to Mo Tianhen and claim we avenged his grandson. It’s our only chance to survive his wrath."
Li Mei and Ma Teng’s eyes lit up. It was a desperate gamble, but it was their only lifeline.
"Agreed!" Li Mei said, her face twisting into a hideous grimace. "We must seal off Blackstone Mountain immediately."
"I will use my Blood Suppression Sealing Formation Flags to lock down the mountain," Ma Teng said as his hands made seals at fast pace. "No one can fly out or teleport away."
"I will bring my remaining men and block the only exit," Han Kuang said as he drawed his saber. "Even if we have to dig up every single inch of that mountain and slaughter every Spirit Beast and Cloudwater disciple hiding in the rocks today, we will find this killer no matter what."
They had to make the killer pay, to make him pay with his life, his soul, his... everything.
Otherwise, the true horror of the Mountain Corpse Asura would soon descend upon them and death would become a luxury that they could not afford.
