Chapter 60: Chapter 60: You Have A Student?
Keira stared at the man staring at her with a petrified look on his face. His body was trembling uncontrollably but it refused to turn around and run away.
"Hmm... How should I deal with this now?" Keira spoke but it was more to herself than anyone else.
Beth hesitantly moved closer to Derrick and asked, "umm... who is she?"
"You can call me Derrick and she is my teacher. You don’t have to worry about anything now." Derrick showed a calm assuring smile which seemed to have worked.
Beth calmed down and took a deep breath.
Boom!
As she was slowly turned her head towards Keira, she saw her hand blurring, followed by the sound of barrier of air being broken.
Derrick eyes narrowed and his brows frowned from the sudden gust of wind that slapped his face.
Then his eyes lips parted to never touch each other again.
The upper part of the gangster’s body had completely disappeared. Only a pair of legs below the knee were left standing in the spot.
As the right leg toppled down and hit the ground Derrick finally snapped out of his trance.
"Why did you do that?" Derrick took Keira’s hands and looked at her in worry. "He was not fighting and there are so many witnesses here."
Keira turned to face his frown. She would have thought he was reprimanding her for killing someone but when she saw nothing but worry for her on his face, her lips curled up in a signature smile.
"No problem at all." She raised a hand and ruffled his hair into a black mess, "Your teacher has good connections and besides laws are much lax for hunters of powerful guilds. You should take the girl out of here. I will catch up with you once I am done here."
"No way. I am not leaving you here." Derrick sternly rejected her offer. He did not know what consequences she might face but he was not going to leave her alone after asking such a big favor from her.
"Once we are done here, you are coming back to my home with me." Derrick did not even left her speak again. He turned around walked towards Beth.
"Are you okay?" He asked while supporting her to sit. Crouching before her, he checked her injuries.
"I am fine. Just a little shaken." Beth looked at the body of the man who was about to kill her or what was left of it with fear and shock in her eyes.
She looked around, dazed.
Her shop was a reck. There was nothing left of it.
Seeing the broken front gate, shattered windows and her merchandise lying on the ground, her eyes glistened with tears.
"You are shivering." Derrick took off his jacket and covered her with it. "Don’t worry about this place, I am sure you will be doing just fine from here on."
Derrick looked over his shoulder and noticed that Keira was talking to someone on her phone. As if noticing his gaze, she flashed a cheeky grin to him.
Shaking his head he looked back at Beth, "Let me make a phone call or else my mother might worry."
The red haired girl nodded with the same dazed look as he took out the phone and dialed Rebecca’s number.
"What happened Derrick, everything okay?" The voice came the moment the phone connected.
"No problem at all. I just wanted to tell you that I might not come back tonight and will see you tomorrow—"
Before he could even finish, Rebecca started dumped a flurry of questions at him. With a wry smile Derrick explained that he had met his teacher and he had to discuss something about his future.
"If it takes much time, I will come back tomorrow directly."
For a moment there was no reply from the other side and then a hesitant voice sounded.
"Derrick, why are you in Towery District? And do I have to worry about grandkids? My heart is really not ready for this?"
Derrick was overwhelmed by the questions and did not know how to assure her. He did not expect her to check his location through the watch.
Just how obsessed was she with his safety. Derrick had no idea and he did not want to know.
"You are thinking too much. Anyways, I will see you later." Derrick did not let her speak any longer and cut the phone.
He turned and saw Beth looking at him with a weird smile on her face.
"My mother sure likes to overthink." Derrick forced a smile.
"I did not think you were so good at lying." Beth chuckled. Her face finally seemed to return to normal.
"By the way, I do not think I have introduced myself. My name is Derrick."
Seeing the extended hand, Beth placed hesitated before taking it with her trembling hands.
"It is nice—"
Woosh!
Rumble!!
Before she could finish, a loud noise interrupted them. Both of them turned their heads and saw a chopper flying in their direction.
By now the crowd had scattered and took shelter in their homes after they had seen Keira killing the man so ruthlessly.
The blades of the chopper within itself and it easily descended and landed in the narrow street.
A man wearing suit jumped out of the aircraft and rushed towards Keira.
"Miss. Chen. What is the situation?" The man noticed Derrick and Beth but he ignored them and formally greeted Keira.
"Some bugs from a local gang dared to lay their hands on my disciple. If I hadn’t come to help him, who knows what would have happened to him." Keira merely glanced at the man once before secretly winking at Derrick.
As if understanding the assignment, color drained from Derrick’s face and he leaned and Beth’s shoulder for support, huffing for breath.
"Teaacherrr... I am fin—" A trail of blood slipped from the corner of his lips before he coughed a mouthful of blood in his own hands.
"Shut up, brat. No way you are fine." Keira rebutted him in error.
She turned back to the man who was looking at the two of them with eyes shot wide and disbelief in his eyes, the only words that came out of his mouth next were. "You have a disciple?"
