Chapter 203: 203 | The Array Mistress’s

By mid-morning, the Flying Spiritual Ship had entered a calm stretch of cloud above the northern valleys.

Along the left side of the hull, the torn section of the outer barrier had been temporarily patched with backup formation plates. The blue array lines still flickered slightly where the Core Formation demonic commander had broken through the night before, but the ship was stable again.

When Lin Tian stepped out of chamber onto the representative deck, the atmosphere around him had completely changed.

Yesterday, disciples had whispered behind his back about how an Early or Middle Stage newcomer had stolen Wei Chang’s fifth representative slot.

Today, the moment he appeared in the corridor, four Inner Sect disciples immediately stepped aside and bowed their heads in silence.

No one dared to block his path. No one dared to meet his eyes for too long.

Even with his Abyssal Shadow Veil partially raised to keep his aura calm, every single person on the ship remembered the suffocating golden pillar of Peak Level 9 Foundation pressure that had crushed a Core Formation expert into ash.

A formation steward in grey robes waited near the central stair checkpoint. Seeing Lin Tian, the steward bowed far more respectfully than the day before.

"Lin Tian," the steward said quickly. "Elder Bai has requested your presence. Here is your temporary pass."

Lin Tian took the jade pass and walked up the stairs.

Near the main array of the ship, the air hummed with dense spiritual energy. Columns of blue runes ran from the deck floor up into the rib structure of the vessel.

Elder Bai stood before the central pillar alone, having dismissed her two formation assistants to the lower branch. Her emerald-blue robes were neat, her silver-white hair secured with a jade pin. Yet beneath her composed exterior, a faint tightness lingered around her eyes.

Repairing a broken ship barrier overnight had pushed her Exquisite Spirit Body Physique hard. Thousands of rune pathways were still echoing inside her consciousness, causing the familiar needle-like ache of Soul Fragility to throb behind her temples.

Then Lin Tian stepped onto the platform.

He stopped three paces away—proper, respectful, and completely unhurried.

"Elder Bai," he greeted.

The moment he entered that three-pace radius, Elder Bai’s fingers stilled against the array pillar.

Without Lin Tian doing anything deliberate, the warm, heavy stability of his Primordial Yang-Tyrant Body and ancient foundation settled over the space around her. To her over-sensitive spiritual perception, his presence felt like an immovable anchor dropping into a chaotic sea.

The sharp, noisy echoes of a thousand rune calculations inside her head suddenly quieted.

For the first time since the battle ended at dawn, Elder Bai took a breath that did not carry a trace of mental pain.

She turned to face him, her gaze moving from his calm face to the wrapped Profound Void-Yang Blade strapped across his back.

"Draw it halfway," Elder Bai said, her voice cool and scholarly. "Do not infuse your Qi. Let me see the resting structure."

Lin Tian reached back and drew the dark-gold broadsword a few inches from its cloth wrapping.

Elder Bai stepped half a pace closer—just close enough to inspect the metal without touching him. Her divine sense brushed over the Tier-3 Peak-Grade runes carved into the Void-Steel.

"When I saw this blade in the arena, I thought its stability came solely from the carver’s skill," she murmured, her eyes narrowing in genuine fascination. "But last night, when you clashed head-on with a Core Formation strike, the shockwave did not scatter into the deck plates beneath you. Why?"

"Because most formation masters treat an array like a cage, Elder Bai," Lin Tian replied calmly, his voice low and steady. "They carve runes to trap and force spiritual energy into obedience. When two heavy forces collide, the cage cracks, and the mind controlling it takes the backlash."

Elder Bai’s breath paused.

The mind controlling it takes the backlash.

His words sounded as if he were talking about weapons, yet they struck the exact root of the Soul Fragility she had hidden from the entire sect for decades.

"And how do you view it?" she asked quietly, looking up from the blade to meet his golden eyes.

"Like water finding a riverbed," Lin Tian said, sliding the dark-gold blade smoothly back into its wrapping. "Energy already knows where it wants to go. If you leave clear channels and let the structure carry the weight instead of your own mind, there is no noise—only flow."

Silence stretched between them beside the humming array pillar.

Elder Bai stood less than two paces from him now. She did not touch him, nor did he reach out to her. Yet standing in the quiet warmth of his presence, listening to a perspective that overturned years of rigid orthodoxy, made something deep within her chest loosen.

The constant, exhausting loneliness of a 5-Star Array Mistress whose mind never slept felt strangely still whenever this young man spoke.

"Let the structure carry the weight instead of the mind..." Elder Bai repeated softly under her breath.

A rare, faint trace of warmth softened the cold edge of her eyes.

"Your teacher must be an extraordinary person to have taught you such principles," she said.

"I figured most of it out in the scrap heaps, Elder," Lin Tian replied with a slight, calm smile. "Broken things teach you faster than intact ones."

Elder Bai looked at him for a long moment, as if re-evaluating every record the sect held on his name.

"The ship will take two more days to reach the Host City," she said, composing her posture once more. "The left barrier still requires periodic balancing every afternoon. Since your presence does not disturb the rune flow... you may accompany the inspection at this hour tomorrow."

It was phrased as an official permission.

Both of them knew it was a private request to have him stand beside her again so her mind could rest.

"I would be honored to learn from Elder Bai," Lin Tian said, bowing his head slightly.

As Lin Tian turned and walked back down the stairs toward the lower deck, Elder Bai remained by the array column, watching his back until he disappeared. Only when the distance between them grew did the faint mental noise slowly begin to creep back into her temples—leaving her already counting the hours until tomorrow afternoon.

Down at the bottom of the stairs, however, a steward from the disciplinary division was already waiting for Lin Tian with a sealed red token in hand.

"Senior Brother Lin," the steward said respectfully. "Instructor Qing has summoned you to the Conduct Chamber for your official post-battle record update."

Lin Tian glanced toward the closed door of the side corridor.

Through his heightened senses, he could already feel the unstable, feverish heat of Lethal Fire-Poison leaking faintly from behind that sealed chamber door.

A faint, knowing smirk touched his lips.

"Lead the way," Lin Tian said.
