Chapter 565 -562: Black Sphere Aggregate

“Where do you think it’s trying to run to?” Xi asked, looking at the rabbit, puzzled.

Even bound by the ropes Xiaozhi had become, the rabbit still kicked its legs desperately, its short limbs making a SCRAPING sound on the ground.

“I don’t know, but it definitely has a set direction.” Li Luo had been observing the rabbit. She could tell its escape path was fixed, as if following some kind of program.

Moreover, the reason the rabbit was kicking so frantically wasn’t out of fear. Li Luo discovered that no matter how she tried to scare it, its actions didn’t change at all.

The frequency of its kicking remained constant, and its direction never wavered. Looking at the rabbit, Li Luo was reminded of a certain toy—a wind-up mouse.

Once wound up, it wouldn’t stop. This black rabbit was just like that, showing no signs of life, just like a pre-set program.

The thick fog automatically parted for the two of them, receding into the surroundings. Shadows would occasionally appear in the mist, only to quickly disappear. Li Luo knew Block must have taken care of those Black Shadows.

She didn’t need to think too hard to know that those Black Shadows were surely also made of black balls.

Mo Ling had now found a faster way to deal with these black ball aggregates. He didn’t need to teleport; he just needed to sink his vision into them and observe the maze-like patterns on the black balls, and the aggregates would completely collapse and dissipate.

Thus, any Black Shadows that approached in the thick fog were quickly dispatched by Mo Ling.

However, as he destroyed more and more Black Shadows, Mo Ling grew increasingly confused.

He discovered that there were simply too many of them; they were practically everywhere. Most were in the form of giants, with a small portion in the form of rabbits.

These rabbit-shaped black ball aggregates were mostly stuck in rock crevices or on earthen slopes, but they were still kicking their legs frantically, inflexibly executing that strange program.

Venturing deeper into the fog, Mo Ling unexpectedly discovered an even stranger form—that of a high wall.

When their numbers grew even larger, these black ball aggregates would take on this high wall form, standing motionless on the rocky ground. All the black balls were packed together in a high-density state, no longer squirming, looking extremely solid.

But once their interiors were observed, these high walls would also rapidly collapse.

Seeing more and more of these high walls, Mo Ling only grew more confused.

‘The rabbit form is for escaping, the giant form is for attacking… what is the high wall form for? Defense? Or are they… building something?’

Fortunately, this question was soon answered…

After passing through the plain where the high walls stood, Li Luo and Xi stood before a black wall that reached to the sky.

The frantically kicking rabbit charged crazily toward the high wall, but it was held back by the ropes Xiaozhi had become, unable to advance. ℯ

“Did the Healers build this?” Li Luo asked in shock, gazing up at the black wall whose top was lost from sight.

“No… Definitely not,” Xi said, stunned.

They both walked forward. Just as they were about to reach the black wall, the rabbit suddenly turned and charged in a direction parallel to it.

“Where is it trying to go?” Xi couldn’t help but ask, seeing the rabbit’s strange behavior.

“I don’t know.” Li Luo was also a little confused.

But just then, Block flew in front of her again and presented its electronic screen.

“It’s looking for an entrance. Follow it.”

Looking at the words on the electronic screen, Li Luo nodded and immediately followed the rabbit.

Before long, Li Luo and Xi saw the “entrance.”

It was called an “entrance,” but it was really just a crack—a narrow gap standing between two high walls. It was very inconspicuous in the thick fog; they would have been hard-pressed to notice it if they hadn’t been following the rabbit.

After reaching the gap, the rabbit turned sharply and kicked its way inside.

Li Luo and Xi also passed through the pitch-black gap and arrived behind the black wall.

However, after passing the black wall, they saw another black wall that reached to the sky. Between the two walls was a passage only a little over two meters wide, and at the end of the passage was yet another black wall.

However, these black walls all had gaps just like the one before, and these gaps seemed to lead to new areas.

Looking at the black walls around them, Li Luo finally understood why Block had called it an “entrance,” because…

“This is a maze!”

Li Luo and Xi said in unison. The area surrounded by these black walls wasn’t a castle or any other kind of building, but a maze.

The gaps connected different passages, which in turn led to different places. Identical high walls blocked all lines of sight, the ground was bare, and there were no landmarks. Once you entered this maze, it would be very difficult to find your way back to the entrance.

“Should we go in?” Li Luo asked seriously. Entering this unknown maze rashly was a very dangerous thing to do.

“In!” Xi looked at the high maze walls and said with great certainty. “I have to find my companions. They might be inside this maze. What about you?”

“Of course.” Li Luo glanced at the end of the passage, then took out the electronic screen again to look at the map. “If I’m not mistaken, the beacon for the Hua Sheng Islands should be in here, right?”

“Yes, it’s here. This used to be the location of the Elder Council…”

“The Elder Council was here too?” Li Luo was a little surprised.

“That’s right. A long time ago, I came here. There weren’t any of these black high walls back then. The Elders used stones to build a simple council hall. They usually discussed their work here, as well as some decisions regarding the development of the Healers…”

As he spoke, Xi carefully reached out a hand to touch the black high wall.

Even though the small black balls on the wall were packed very densely, Xi could still recognize them. These were the same kind of black balls his senior had shown him before.

‘Maybe my senior is also inside this maze, but they got trapped for some reason and could only contact me through the Healing Space to guide me here.’

‘Or maybe… everyone is trapped, and I’m the only one who can save them.’

An ominous thought rose in Xi’s mind.

“Don’t overthink it. Since we’ve decided to go in, let’s get moving.” Li Luo glanced at the rabbit, which was still kicking its legs. “It seems to know the way…”

Li Luo took a few steps forward and loosened the rope. Once the rabbit had some room to move, it charged straight for the end of the passage, trying to dart into one of the gaps there.

Seeing this, Li Luo was certain: the rabbit really did know the way.

So, without hesitating, she led the rabbit forward, passed through the gap, and entered a deeper passage.

And so, Li Luo led the rabbit through the maze, with Xi following closely behind. He would occasionally pick up stones from the ground, turn them into shining gems, and use them to mark the way at forks in the path.

What they hadn’t yet discovered was that as they went deeper, the passages and gaps between the black walls were becoming wider and wider…
