Chapter 443: Chapter 440: Contingency Plan

"Emergency Plan Five: Dragon King."

"Looks like the higher-ups are taking this invasion seriously, using such a high-priority plan."

The young man spoke with some surprise, holding an umbrella in one hand and an electronic screen in the other.

"What’s the Dragon King?" Mo Ling’s question appeared on the Olive.

"All sorts of things crawl out of the Abyss. The different emergency plans are for different situations. The Dragon King is one of them."

"It’s a relic deployment strategy, designed specifically to handle this type of invasion. Just watch. The intruder won’t be hopping around for much longer," the young man explained nonchalantly.

Mo Ling dubiously eyed the still-gathering storm clouds, a sense of unease in his heart.

’This is a "god." Can Dawn City really handle it?’

Although Mo Ling had been reassuring the Little Elf, he was still filled with doubt.

Just as Mo Ling was worrying, the young man below suddenly sniffed the air as if he had caught a scent.

"It’s starting..."

He suddenly snapped his umbrella shut.

A shocking scene unfolded. The raindrops in the air suddenly froze, hovering in place right before they could strike the young man.

Then, the droplets reversed course, actually returning to the storm clouds above.

"Rain suppression. Must be the effect of that relic."

The young man muttered to himself as he scrolled through his electronic screen.

Soon, information about a relic appeared on the screen.

...

[Relic: Fake Dragon King Statue]

[Cost: Requires the construction of a Dragon King Temple. The Fake Dragon King Statue must be placed within and given offerings. To maintain the effect, the user must simultaneously sneak bites of the offerings while cursing the Dragon King.]

[Ability: Induces drought in a certain area. The scope of the drought is determined by the speed at which the offerings are eaten and the severity of the curses.]

[Place of Discovery: Earth]

[Discoverer: Lin Zu’an]

...

The young man’s expression twisted as he looked at the screen. "I can’t believe this weird thing actually has a use. I have to hand it to those Researchers."

In any case, the rain had indeed been suppressed.

A terrifying presence was silently descending upon the storm clouds, preventing a single drop of rain from falling and completely sealing away all moisture.

Not only that, but the gathering of the clouds was also being restricted by that power. It was as if something was constantly wreaking havoc within the clouds, scattering the ones that had just barely managed to form.

Raindrops that were about to hit the ground were forced to retreat back into the clouds, only to be blasted apart by an immense force.

’Is this the power of the Fake Dragon King Statue?’

It promised drought, and it delivered drought, even forcing rain that had already started falling to turn back.

Mo Ling was utterly stunned by the relic’s tremendous power.

"It’s not over yet."

Though the storm clouds had dispersed, the low-lying areas of Dawn City were already completely submerged, with raging floodwaters spreading everywhere.

"The next one should be... the Stabilizing Needle."

The young man quickly operated the screen, and soon, information on another relic appeared:

...

[Relic: Stabilizing Needle]

[Cost: The user’s body will uncontrollably grow larger and smaller. Please use this relic in an open area.]

[Ability: Prohibits the flow of water within a certain area.]

[Place of Discovery: 3rd Floor of the Abyss]

[Discoverer: Hidden]

...

’It makes the user grow and shrink? Shouldn’t it be the needle that changes size?’

Just as Mo Ling was wondering about the relic’s effect, the rushing sound of water from below suddenly stopped.

The young man suddenly leaped onto a stone pillar at the edge of the rooftop.

"It’s working."

He took his umbrella and poked at the puddle on the ground.

An astonishing scene unfolded.

The tip of the umbrella sank into the puddle as if it were mud. When the young man pulled the tip out, the hole in the water didn’t vanish. Instead, it remained fixed in the shape of the umbrella’s point.

"The effect is pretty good."

With another leap, the young man landed directly on the railing at the edge of the rooftop.

Maintaining this dangerous posture, he beckoned to the Olive.

"The flood has stopped, too. It has nowhere left to run."

The Olive flew to the young man’s side. Words appeared on its watery surface once more—a warning from the Little Elf:

"It can attach to any liquid. Drinks, fuel, water vapor... even human blood."

Reading this well-intentioned reminder, the young man nodded.

"The higher-ups are already aware. They have an appropriate counter-strategy, so don’t worry."

As he spoke, the young man continued searching on his electronic screen.

When he saw the next relics to be used, his eyes suddenly lit up.

"When the snipe and the clam grapple..."

"Prime Minister Turtle..."

"Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals..."

"They’re using three relics at once? Looks like the intruder isn’t getting away."

Just as he was about to look up the specific details of the relics, the sound of fighting erupted from below.

The Little Elf quickly had the Olive look down.

The "god" had reverted to its Waterman form and was fighting a strange lobster holding a spear.

With a wave of its hand, the Waterman ensnared the lobster in currents of water, instantly crushing it to pieces.

However, a crab scuttled out from nearby, two large sabers clamped in its pincers as it charged the Waterman.

Of course, this reckless crab didn’t last a single move against the Waterman either. It was instantly knocked to the ground, its shell shattering into pieces.

But it wasn’t over. A Shrimp Soldier charged out from somewhere nearby, holding a large Guan Dao. Upon spotting the Waterman, it lifted the weapon above its head, spun it like a helicopter rotor, and rushed forward.

Unsurprisingly, this Shrimp Soldier was also blasted away by the Waterman’s currents.

But after it was knocked down, another large crab charged out from the side...

And so, the cycle repeated.

Shrimp Soldier, Crab General, Shrimp Soldier, Crab General... 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

They carried all sorts of weapons and looked majestic, but they couldn’t withstand a single blow from the Waterman. They were complete paper tigers, collapsing at the slightest touch.

"Where are they coming from?" Mo Ling asked, curious.

"They’re summoned by a relic. They have no real combat power; it’s all for show. It’s just a stalling tactic. When a Shrimp Soldier is defeated, a Crab General is summoned. When a Crab General falls, a Shrimp Soldier is summoned. It’s endless," the young man explained.

Mo Ling watched the Waterman, now completely entangled with the Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals, and asked in surprise, "Why isn’t it hiding anymore?"

"It was targeted by ’When the Snipe and the Clam Grapple.’ That relic forces two targets to fight. It must have been chosen as one target, and the other must be those Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals."

Mo Ling had a sudden realization after hearing the young man’s explanation.

’So relics can be used like this?’

One relic forced a fight, while another provided an unkillable opponent. Just like that, the Waterman was trapped, unable to hide anymore and forced into a meaningless battle.

"Then what about Prime Minister Turtle?"

"Prime Minister Turtle must be the ’fisherman,’ right? After the snipe and the clam fight to the death, the fisherman appears..."
