Chapter 193: The 5 Grand Witches’ Dilemma (Part 2)

"You tried to look at the fate of this boy?" Galadriel asked, pointing at the hologram of Magna’s smiling face rising from the pocket mirror.

Since Azelith was blind and couldn’t see the face on the hologram, Hecate answered for her.

"She was called by the family that found the boy to examine his past. She used your Fate Track spell on him to see his fate."

Galadriel was the original inventor of the spell, a spell that allowed anyone to see and follow the past of almost anything, even lifeless objects.

Yet she had never heard of anyone losing their sight after using it.

"What exactly did you see?" she asked, genuinely wanting to know what kind of sight could make someone go blind simply by looking through the spell.

Azelith felt the weight of having to explain everything in front of 5 Grand Witches. She had actually considered keeping it a secret, something she had only shared with her daughter.

Even then, she hadn’t told her daughter everything. She had simply warned her to treat the boy named Magna well if she ever encountered him.

She had only told her that the boy wasn’t someone who could be judged by how he appeared and that meeting him could become either the greatest fortune she would ever have or the worst thing that could happen to her.

She had only warned her, hoping this encounter would bring her unmatched fortune rather than ruin.

Unfortunately, Hecate had found her.

After questioning her, the Grand Witch had learned everything Azelith knew.

At first, Azelith had been terrified. The punishment for keeping such a secret from the Tower and refusing to report it was severe.

At the very least, she could lose her title as a Witch and have her mana channels sealed for the rest of her life.

But Hecate had offered her a way out.

If Azelith told them everything she knew, Hecate had promised to overlook her crime.

Even so, Azelith was still caught between 2 fears.

On one side was the fear of losing everything she had spent her life becoming. Her Witch title, her rights, her mana, and everything else that gave meaning to the life she had built.

On the other was the fear of the unknown.

In the end, Azelith took a deep breath and began telling them what she had seen.

"I saw 2 glowing Fate points far outside our realm. They weren’t coming from any realm we had discovered so far."

Triss, the Time Witch, raised an eyebrow. "What does that mean?"

Galadriel, the Fate Witch, explained it for those who didn’t know how the spell worked.

"When you use the Fate Track spell, you normally see the glowing points belonging to the target’s past on the planet where they lived. If she saw the glowing points from outside the planet, it means the boy’s Fate points came from another realm. He isn’t connected to our world or anyone we have ever known or discovered."

Now that they understood the basic principle behind the spell, the other Grand Witches continued listening.

Azelith’s voice trembled.

"They were the largest and brightest Fate points I have ever seen. They were greater than our world and more magnificent than our sun."

Even remembering those 2 enormous points of light, hanging side by side in the distance, was enough to make her breathing grow ragged.

"But then I realized they weren’t actually Fate points."

She swallowed.

"They were alive."

The room fell silent.

"They were just eyes belonging to some entity. They opened and looked directly at me."

Azelith’s body began to tremble again.

Witches had spent their entire lives studying the universe. They knew how vast it was, and they had accepted that vastness as a simple fact of existence.

Through spells and mana paths, they had dedicated themselves to understanding its mysteries and learning how to control the forces within their reach.

Azelith had done the same for hundreds of years.

She had spent centuries learning, researching, becoming stronger, and reaching for things that once seemed impossible.

But in that single moment, everything she had learned had been put into perspective.

She realized that all the knowledge she had spent centuries chasing, all the power she had worked so hard to obtain, and everything she believed she understood about the nature of the universe might not even occupy a meaningful place in a much larger existence.

It wasn’t simply the feeling of being small.

It was the fear of discovering that there was a height she could never reach, no matter how long she lived.

A summit so far beyond her understanding that she couldn’t even imagine what existed at the top.

It made her start to question the meaning of her existence.

It was like a worker spending 12 hours every day just to earn enough money to survive, then opening the internet and seeing the lives of multimillionaires traveling in private jets and living on enormous yachts.

Knowing that such a life existed somewhere would be enough to make them question their own life.

They could work harder, but some kinds of wealth were never going to be reached simply by working harder.

They could accept their life, be grateful for what they had, and continue living with the same monotony and pain.

Or they could dream.

They could hope.

They could pray to their gods and wish that perhaps, after death, they would be given another life with better circumstances and the things they could never have in this one.

That was exactly where Azelith now stood.

She had seen something so powerful, so magnificent, that she had already convinced herself she had witnessed a God.

An entity powerful enough to give meaning to the life she felt she had lost.

A power she had never possessed.

A knowledge she could not even begin to imagine.

"What I saw is..."

Her trembling stopped.

Azelith slowly raised her head. The fear was still there in her face, but her voice no longer shook.

"...a God."
