Chapter 194: The 5 Grand Witches’ Dilemma (Part 3)

"It’s ridiculous." Triss slammed her palm on the table. "We have 5 Great Mothers who gave us everything. They are the creators of everything. Now you are saying you saw some being at the same level as them? How disrespectful!"

She looked so furious that her words alone seemed to bend and change the whole room, with time and space overlapping and clashing against reality.

Normally the other Grand Witches would stop her before she damaged the Tower, yet they were also feeling quite frustrated inside.

If Azelith had simply said she saw some strong entity, they would still have believed it without reacting this strongly.

What she was saying, however, was that she had seen a creator. It was a living one that could be seen directly, felt, and even communicated with.

That was something they would never be able to do with their 5 Matriarchs.

They had only ever thought of a creator as a spiritual being. You chanted their honorific names, used their spells, and enjoyed the creations they left behind.

In their beliefs, the Goddesses were more like deceased legendary figures who had lived in the past. They had left behind great inventions, such as the realms, the concept of mana, and the spellcasting system.

The God figure Azelith described went against all their beliefs and everything they had learned so far.

If they accepted this idea, the existence of another creator, they would have to accept that their 5 Matriarchs were not that special at all. They would be just 5 more figures in a bigger cosmos.

It was simply something they could not accept.

Only Hecate seemed to be in control of her emotions, at least not showing the same frustration or anger.

"Calm down. You are the Grand Witches. Keep your bearings." She reminded them of their titles.

Though she also did not want to accept the existence of another greater being, she was still optimistic about it, seeing the opportunity it offered.

"Don’t you understand the meaning of it if it’s real?" She looked at every one of their faces one by one.

The 4 Grand Witches looked at her fair face and into her gray eyes. They saw the excitement there.

They could not understand what Hecate was thinking that made her so excited until she spoke.

"We are the Grand Witches. The pinnacle of this world. But even we have our limits."

Everyone could understand her words, since they all faced the same limitations every day.

Firstly, each one of them was a 50th Trial Witch.

The number was incredible, since it was the highest Trial level a Witch could reach. It was the peak, with nothing beyond it.

Yet it was never something anyone could take pride in. They could only work harder and try desperately to find a way to go beyond it.

With every new realm they discovered, every new resource they found, and every new story they learned about the 5 Great Mothers, there was always the hope of finding some insight. They hoped it would let them break their limit and go beyond the 50th Trial.

So far, though, the only thing they had found was an invisible barrier. It was a kind of invisible law surrounding all their universes and all their realms, stopping them from rising above this limit.

It was like the laws on Earth that could never be broken. Nothing with mass could exceed the speed of light, energy could not be created from nothing, time could not reverse direction, and entropy always increased.

Hecate saw that all of them were listening to her calmly now. She spoke in a slow and clear tone. "If there is really another creator, that means there must be different realms created by them."

They finally understood her excitement.

What she was thinking was this. The Underworld, the Fairy Hive, and the Realm of Giants had all been created by the 5 Matriarchs with the same rules. A realm made by another creator could have completely different rules and mechanisms.

A realm where the 50th Trial was not the end but only the beginning could be out there somewhere.

"Is that even possible?" Melisandre Harkness, the Death Witch, asked. Her emotionless eyes now held some kind of excitement.

"Why not?" Hecate’s eyes lit up at the possibility. "If the creator is even stronger than the 5 Great Mothers, then the realm they create would naturally have higher limits inside it."

Her words were like blasphemy, since they made their Goddesses look weak. Still, as Witches, they were also a kind of researchers.

Without an open mind and a hunger to research more, they would not have come this far, to the pinnacle of power in this Witch realm.

They had always been aware anyway that anyone who read the history of the 5 stages of Genesis could see the 5 Great Mothers were not omnipotent, flawless Goddesses.

It was just that they had never had another example to compare them with until now, so they had accepted them as greater beings.

"But how can we know that he is really a God from another realm?" One of them finally asked, having decided to give the idea a chance.

What Azelith had seen was not enough to prove it to them.

Hecate did not have enough evidence to reach a firm conclusion either. "For that, we need to first know why he came to our realm."

Azelith had been standing to the side, quietly and respectfully listening to them. She opened her mouth to share her own thoughts. "Sorry for interrupting, but if you want to consider it, I would like to share my own view, which I noticed during the days I observed him."

After getting their permission, she told them what she had been thinking.

"What I realized is that he himself is not sure who he really is. Or he is acting that way for some reason, as if he does not want others to know who he is."

That was really good information and a good perspective, enough to make them change the way they thought.

If what Azelith said was true, they would not go and ask him directly who he was, since it would only make things more complicated.

Each of them fell into deep thought. Their beliefs, their logic, and what they really wanted all clashed in their heads, until a sound rose in the room.

"Caw!"

A dark raven suddenly materialized inside the room and landed on the table, drawing everyone’s attention.

"A message from the Underworld?"

It was easy to tell, since the raven’s metallic look clearly showed it was made of Grak Steel. It was a messenger artifact made only for use between the Underworld and the Witch World.

"It must be from Arthas." Hecate reached out to the cylinder container on the raven’s back to take the message inside.

She was quite surprised to get a message, since Arthas was not someone who sent her messages during his missions. He always gave his report after finishing a mission.

She quickly unrolled the paper and started to read its contents.

The other Witches watched with curious eyes while her face changed as she read. It finally settled into a look of stupefaction and pure exhilaration.
