I'm Forced to Be an Undercover Student Despite Being the Strongest
Chapter 69: Weeks for the weak
The following weeks felt like a walking dream, as he was moved down to the sapphire rank and got changed to their dorms.
Now having to share his room with one other guy, whose roommate had died during the event, having been split in two by Calostie.
Irose and Ami were still taking care of his room in the diamond dorms, because no other student had been promoted, and with two rooms empty, it would take long for somebody to claim it.
He felt like his new roommate couldn’t stand him, not that he could blame him; after all, for everyone it looked like he had run away from the fight.
"Steven, get out of bed. It’s already past noon, and you skipped like half the classes this week.’’ His roommate spoke, dressed in his student uniform.
"What do you care, Syno?" Putting his feet in the air in boredom.
’’I wouldn’t care if it weren’t for the staff to show up every day and ask where you were." Syno answered, staring at his face.
"Let me handle them; just go to your classes," Steven answered, not even sparing him a glance. As he could hear Syno’s disappointed sigh, he knew the kid was a good one.
And he wasn’t going to pull him into his problems.
Hearing the door lock, Steven jumped up; he was wearing an old sweater and some sweatpants.
Picking up a cap from his nightstand, he waited until he felt Syno’s mana leave the dorm, only then moving towards the window.
The Saphire dorms were much more lively than the diamonds ever had been, due to everyone being much more on the same level.
Picking up a handband filled with runic symbols, another gift from June after her recovery not too long ago.
He tapped on the small metal plate integrated into the top side as the runes drained away a bit of his mana.
But in exchange, his body started to turn transparent until he completely disappeared from sight.
Magical tools were truly amazing, allowing him to still cast spells and concentrate on his surroundings with his mana sense despite already using a spell in some way.
Jumping out the window, he had a few things to do while skipping Ms. Trellens’s class, as he dodged a small group of students just walking below his window.
He thought about visiting Lucy for a moment, but she had returned to the diamond dorm last week after the medical team couldn’t find a cure for her condition.
And visiting her with all the royal guards around the mansion would be annoying even for him.
He also already tried to cure her himself, but to no avail. After all, there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with it; it was more like her memories had been stolen than deleted.
He could try to reclaim them, but that would be for sure noticed by Calostie, who had nearly completely disappeared from the radar.
But at least his connection to the low-level fingers had grown a lot since the event, as he had gotten a letter from them just shortly after.
As he walked through the main street, which was once again filled with life and trade, he nearly got distracted by a new shop about some special teas.
Having to concentrate, he took a route inside a much smaller street with only a few very suspicious traders inside.
Walking past all of them unnoticed, he made his way to a house that looked more like a ruin than a building, having had a giant fire burning in nearly to the ground.
As he could feel walking through a magic barrier and a sound barrier. Only then did a small group of people become visible to the human eye.
"Steven, you’re here." A young man, probably a third year, spoke, waving towards him.
Having been caught, he deactivated his handband, turning visible and catching the others sitting inside of the guard.
As one of them nearly fell from his chair, the others let out a laugh at her clumsy colleague. "Man, Steven, you scared me to death. ’’ the guy answered, trying to hide his embarrassment.
"My bad, J. Next time I will warn you when I try to hide myself from half the school. ’’ Steven answered sarcastically as he sat down next to them.
"Yo, your drip is fire, Steven." A young man nearly jumped on his shoulders from behind as Steven turned his head slightly towards him.
The man was wearing some baggy jeans combined with a shirt with the diamond emblem on it, probably stolen from somebody. "You, V, what are you doing here?"
As he held out his hand towards him, dabbing him up. "Just some business, you know, man." As he swung, he dreads the sun shining on his darker skin.
"But what about you, Steven? Why are you here?" she asked while casually grabbing Steven’s cap and spinning it on his finger.
"Same shit, he was called here for some mission, I would think, ain’t I right, L?" he spoke while staring at the man that had greeted him first.
Watching his agreeing nod, he turned back to V. "See, I am always busy with work; there is no time for me to relax ever."
But V only laughed at him. ’’You’re a new man... New people always have to work, but even then the higher-ups seem to love sending you on some dangerous shit.’’
’’Today won’t be much better. L spoke, staring at a letter in his hand.
As V finally let go of his shoulders, "Yo V, can I get back my cap?"
"Nah, that shit looks trash. I’m going to find something much better for you when we meet again,’’ V answered, lifting the cap in his hand.
Steven could only sigh; that thing had been pretty expensive for a Sapphire student. He also had liked it a bit.
"Don’t look too sad, S; I will be back soon. No reason to miss me,’’ V answered casually, walking through the barrier.
"Who said anything about me missing him?" he whispered to himself hiding a slight smile.
