The dreadful air slowly evaporated as the scream of the student group disappeared into the distance.

Calostie had let them get completely focused on something else far in the distance, which Steven could feel too.

Steven could already think how her ability works; she needed a golden eye to use her mind control on somebody in her range, yet one of them had been gone until now.

It made sense why the teachers hadn’t arrived until now; she had probably used her second eye to control one of them, hindering them from coming here.

But it seemed like her time had run out; whoever she had been controlling had either been killed or freed from her spell.

With a dozen of powerful presences flying directly towards them, Calostie looked disappointed as she let out a heavy sigh.

As she turned towards the diamond students, ’’We will see us very soon again.’’ Her body slowly turned into the dark liquid, which evaporated as soon as it touched the ground.

Her head turned slightly more directly towards the place Steven had been hiding, a smile forming on her lips as she whispered something inaudible.

But before she could fully escape, a powerful voice echoed through the air, sounding like thunder powerful enough to pierce the heavens.

’’You will be going nowhere.’’ As an unimaginable presence filled the air with a lightning strike.

Standing next to the dark liquid was an old man, still full of vigor, holding an ancient wooden staff filled with gemstones.

It was their principal, Yumoth, combat-ready, grabbing towards the darkness, his hand sending out small lightings that left burn marks on the ground.

But he still wasn’t able to grab Calostie, as her laughter filled the entire forest and her golden eyes slowly melted into nothingness.

"I would love to talk to you, old man, but I sadly have to go." As the darkness simply dripped down from his hand.

As the rest of the presences arrived, an explosion blinded everyone close by.

Four teachers and a dozen staff members and even multiple royal guards had arrived too.

Elizabeth was part of them too, standing next to Professor Alem, the head teacher of the Sapphire students and master of defensive magic.

But nobody was able to catch the person who had just killed a student without even moving.

Steven could feel her mana grow weaker and then completely disappear.

As even the sounds of fighting from the students stopped, the mind hex lifted from Lumiel’s and Lucy’s bodies as they fell to the ground unconscious.

Slowly stepping away from the hut towards the group, the facility members were already on their way to the wounded students, while Elizabeth remained over the split-in-half student.

Yumoth stared at her, but she only shook her head; he had already been dead for too long, and the body had been too damaged.

As Yumoth slowly turned towards the approaching Steven, looking troubled and confused.

"Oh, Mr. Bright, you’re here too." But his eyes never truly looked at each other. "Might you be able to tell us what happened here?"

"This person proclaiming herself as one of the fingers just came here and started fighting everyone," he lied, as he knew multiple other teachers were also listening to their talk.

"They were much more powerful than I had expected, so I decided to hide myself... I didn’t expect that the others would be so powerless against her.’’ He added shamefully, he truly didn’t expect this.

This sapphire student had only died because he didn’t want to stop her or refuse to help her, and there was no one else to blame for it.

Yumoth only nodded at him, probably understanding he couldn’t tell him everything right here and now.

"Everyone take care of the wounded for now; we will find out what happened later." While stepping away from Steven, letting him stand in front of the corpse.

His gaze lingered only for one moment as he stepped away too, watching medical staff arrive and carry out everyone except for Edward and Lucy, who were the least wounded or were able to heal themselves.

Lumiel was carried in a stretcher, looking almost like a corpse, his left hand badly mangled and his face completely pale.

Merency didn’t look much better, her whole body filled with scratches as a wild beast had tried to chop her into pieces.

June seemed rather fine, but she was still dead pale and sweating heavily. But her mana was weak, barely noticeable. She had probably drained all of her mana by creating the rings that were powerful enough to suppress Calostie.

Edward was walking next to her, casually chatting as if nothing had happened, making a shiver run down Stevens’ spine. This old royalty was really a crazy guy, not comparable to any normal student.

And even between all those abnormalities surrounding him, he stood out like a star giving his light to everyone close by.

As Lucy walked just past him, not even sparing him a glance, her eyes looking entirely empty.

"Lucy, is everything ok? You look like you need some medical attention.’’ He spoke quietly, but she didn’t react as if she didn’t hear him.

Grabbing her shoulder and forcing her to look at him, she seemed confused as she tried to step away.

’’What do you want from me? Stay away.’’ She sounded genuinely scared, freeing herself from his grip.

Lowering his hand in embarrassment, he asked softly. "Lucy, you should really get some medical attention; you don’t look fine at all."

But she only continued to stare at him as if her brain wasn’t able to connect his words to her.

Until she finally answered, her voice sounding flat and confused.

’’Who is this Lucy youre talking about all the time?’’

"What?" Steven answered, taking a step back.

"Also, who are you? And where are we?" she added.

As Stevens’ heart sank to his feet, what was she talking about?

As realization hit him.

This was Calostie’s work.
