I Write Novels in a Zerg Prison
Chapter 337: I Really Like Ulysses: Completely Bewitched, Yet Still Pretending to Be Reserved
Shamir secretly registered his marriage with Ravens at night without telling anyone in his family, and they even got a physical examination while they were at it.
At least, that was what he thought.
Only after returning home did he discover that everyone in his family already knew he had registered his marriage!
His Female Father’s expression was anything but pleasant. His gaze swept over Shamir, then landed on Ravens.
It was not only because Shamir had secretly married Ravens.
It was also because he had learned that his hatchling had taken contraceptives for ten years.
Fortunately, there had been no problems with his health.
Tianjia standards for contraceptives used by males were extremely strict. The dosage had been rather strong, but there was nothing wrong with the ingredients in that batch of smuggled medicine.
During those ten years, Ravens and Shamir had not met very frequently, so the number of times Shamir actually needed to take the medicine had not been that high......
He did not even know whether he should be grateful for that.
But no matter what, no Female Father would be happy to learn that his hatchling had been taking medicine for ten years.
Now he looked at Ravens with even greater displeasure.
Nor was such a quick marriage something he had wanted to see.
In his original expectations, Ravens should have spent ten years as Shamir’s nameless underground lover, just as Shamir himself once had.
But he had underestimated Shamir’s feelings for Ravens.
When you truly liked a Zerg, you could not bear to let him suffer even the slightest grievance.
Shamir might have been willing to date Ravens for ten years, but absolutely not as some so-called “nameless underground lover.”
What was more, because of the coincidence of the premarital examination, Shamir had directly registered his marriage with Ravens.
His Female Father was almost beginning to suspect that this was yet another scheme of Ravens’s.
If not for the fact that Ravens looked at Shamir with equally blazing eyes—the gaze of a Zerg who deeply loved another Zerg—he would never have let the matter go so easily.
As for now......
Shamir’s Female Father sighed heavily in his heart.
The matter was already settled.
There was no turning back.
Nor was there any room for him to interfere between this newlywed little couple.
Unless he truly wanted to become one of those “villains” from a book.
No Female Father wanted to be a bad Zerg in his hatchling’s eyes. Since things had already come this far, he could only let them have their way.
Shamir’s Female Father let out a sigh and said, “Your Male Father and I are going away to travel and recuperate. From now on, we’ll leave this farm to the two of you.”
He stared at Ravens for a while longer before turning to Shamir and saying, “If this Female Zerg ever bullies you in the future, you must tell the family.”
That was what he said, but he knew his hatchling was an independent child.
When something happened, Shamir was more accustomed to solving it himself rather than relying on his family.
That also meant there were many things on his mind that he would not tell his family. As his Female Father, he had only learned about some of Shamir’s experiences and thoughts through the novel.
After thinking for a moment, he told Shamir, “Having that lord write it into a novel is fine too. Our whole family will read it.”
The several Female Older Brothers who had remained silent nearby nodded as well.
Even his Male Father indicated that he would read it too.
Shamir looked completely bewildered.
“Huh?”
How had the conversation suddenly turned into a novel?
What novel?
Shamir suddenly remembered that he really had discussed with that great author An-shen the possibility of writing a novel with him as the protagonist, looking back on his real experiences during his ten years in the entertainment industry so that his fans would still have something to remember after he retired.
They called it his “real experiences,” but naturally it would be selective and include a certain amount of artistic processing.
It would be impossible to reproduce everything exactly.
For example, there was the matter of Mr. Ravens.
Perhaps he would include Ravens in his biography as a Female Zerg who had deeply influenced him and left him with profound memories, but he would not openly describe his own innermost thoughts.
Those emotional entanglements ultimately belonged to him alone.
Of course, that had been Shamir’s original idea.
After they confirmed their feelings for each other and even got married, Shamir now wanted nothing more than to write lavishly about their relationship, clearly laying out everything about how they met and came to understand one another.
But he had not even had time to tell An-shen about those experiences yet.
In Shamir’s imagination, he would sit opposite An-shen, drinking tea and chatting with him. They would spend an entire afternoon—or even several days—talking freely in one room, and then An-shen would turn what he told him into a story.
But......
Why did it sound, from what his Female Father was saying, as though the book had already started being written?
Had it even already been published?
Shamir asked blankly, “Has this book already started serialization?”
Ravens looked at him gently and said, “No. It’s already finished.”
As he spoke, he glanced at Shamir’s Female Father, then added meaningfully, “If you want to add anything afterward, it can only be written as an extra.”
“Huh???”
Shamir froze in shock.
Finished???
He had not told An-shen anything yet!
Right now, he desperately wanted to know how that book had been written.
Thinking of all those entertainment-industry scandals and the wildly edited CP videos on StarNet......
He was extremely worried that An-shen had used those things as material and freely improvised, assigning him three, four, five, or six different romantic pairings.
And that was not even the worst possibility.
He knew that the relationships between males and females in An-shen’s novels were all extremely sincere and profound.
What he feared most was that An-shen might pair him with some Zerg he did not know at all, or someone he had only met three or five times for work, and then arrange some unforgettable, soul-stirring romance between them!
That would truly be the end!
And Ravens had read the book too!
Shamir could no longer be bothered to keep talking to his family. He hurried upstairs in panic, opened the light screen on his terminal, and checked the novel.
To his surprise, the Female Zerg he liked in the novel was not someone else.
It was Ravens.
No wonder Ravens’s expression had actually softened slightly when he talked about the novel, without the slightest trace of jealousy.
But how could An-shen know about him and Ravens......
Shamir continued reading.
The more he read the passages in the book that were almost identical to his own experiences and state of mind, the more confused he became.
It was simply unbelievable.
He was certain that even if he personally told An-shen their story, he might not be able to convey it as perfectly as the novel did.
How did An-shen know all this?
Even if the Marshal’s residence had heaven-defying means and could investigate his relationship with Ravens, every meeting they had, and every conversation between them, it still should not have been able to know what he had been thinking inside his own head, right?
Even Shamir himself did not understand his own heart that well.
He did not know himself that thoroughly.
In a daze, he finished the entire book, all the way to the final chapter where they registered their marriage.
Still looking completely dazed, Shamir ultimately could not resist contacting An-shen to ask him.
An Ruo, after receiving the message: Huh?
You didn’t tell me about these experiences?
I thought the two of you had already acted everything out in front of me once.
So that was something my brain staged on its own?
This really had been An Ruo’s mistake.
After receiving permission separately from Shamir and Ravens, he had immediately started writing and completely forgotten that he was supposed to ask the Zergs involved for their experiences and source material.
Look at the mess he had made.
But things had already come this far.
The book had already been written, so they might as well make do with it.
If there was anything that needed to be added, removed, or adjusted, An Ruo could, for the sake of the actual Zergs involved, provide a certain amount of minor editing service.
Major revisions were impossible.
It was difficult for a creator to write something that went against his own heart, especially an author like him who relied almost entirely on inspiration.
Fortunately, Shamir seemed very satisfied with the book and did not request any changes.
His attitude was just somewhat strange.
He seemed to regard An Ruo as a kindred spirit.
An Ruo was slightly puzzled.
Thinking back to how Xi'an and Hill had reacted when they learned that he knew their stories......
Xi'an believed that An Ruo’s unusually active Psychic Power allowed him to capture certain fragments of images drifting through the universe.
Hill seemed to have a similar idea, though his interpretation had been more artistic.
But Shamir thought differently from the two of them.
Those two had already been high-ranking Male Zergs for a long time.
Only Shamir had risen from C-rank, so he did not understand the effects of a high-ranking Male Zerg’s Psychic Power quite as well.
In Shamir’s eyes, the fact that An Ruo could understand his heart so deeply without even talking to him could only mean that €€€€ their thoughts were on the same wavelength.
They were kindred spirits!
An Ruo’s face flushed red with shame, and he silently buried it in a throw pillow.
Explaining something like this would be too troublesome and far too strange.
Even An Ruo himself only vaguely understood it and would have found it difficult to clearly explain the reason.
It was better to just let Shamir misunderstand for now.
He thickened his skin and accepted the title of “kindred spirit.”
With how deeply an author understood the protagonists beneath his pen, how could that not count as being kindred spirits?
......
When Ulysses returned, An Ruo’s face was still hot.
Even though he had already calmed himself down mentally, Ulysses still noticed that slight abnormality.
His gaze swept over An Ruo’s face, and a trace of confusion and speculation appeared in his eyes.
The god had not met any other Female Zergs today.
It was possible he had met someone on StarNet, though.
Young Female Zergs and Male Zergs nowadays all seemed to enjoy online romance.
But Ulysses found it very difficult to imagine the god having an online romance or falling for another Female Zerg.
In short, it was possible that An Ruo had started an online romance.
But An Ruo starting an online romance was also very unlikely.
Ulysses gathered back his thoughts, which had wandered completely off course, walked over to the god, and asked gently,
“Your new book is already finished, and you don’t have much to do lately. Would you like to go out and have some fun?”
It was an invitation for a date.
When Helios’s leave request had been submitted, Ulysses had gotten the same idea.
The god disliked going out.
He was far too much of a homebody.
Back when they were still at the Military Region Prison, Ulysses would take the god out on a date once every one or two months.
There was no reason that after getting married, he should keep the god shut inside the house all the time instead.
In the several months since they moved into the Marshal’s residence, An Ruo had only gone out three times.
The first time had been to have rings custom-made for him.
The second time had been when that albino Male Zerg Aira dragged him off to attend a book club. An Ruo had deliberately changed his face and body shape and attended under a different identity.
The third time was their wedding.
This month, because he had been writing his new book, he had not stepped outside the Marshal’s residence even once.
Ulysses felt it was necessary to take An Ruo out for some fresh air.
An Ruo was already very familiar with this whole dating routine, so he directly asked Ulysses where he planned to go.
He really did not like going out, but once in a while he still wanted to take a walk outside.
A date once a month was not stressful for him.
On the contrary, he looked forward to going out with Ulysses.
That made him remember the past.
Before he and Ulysses had officially confirmed their relationship, they had gone on several dates.
He had liked every single one.
Actually, Ulysses had already been courting him a very long time ago.
An Ruo had simply been far too slow to realize it.
Now that he understood, he treasured it even more.
Ulysses first asked An Ruo if there was anywhere in particular he wanted to go.
When An Ruo said there was not, Ulysses suggested himself, “How about Shamir’s farm?”
An Ruo, who had only just spoken with Shamir, froze.
“There?”
He hesitated.
He really was curious about what Shamir’s farm actually looked like.
But he and Shamir already knew each other.
They were familiar Zergs now.
And since they were friends, if he went there, surely he would have to meet Shamir, say hello, socialize a little, right?
He was going out to have fun.
He did not want to add social interaction on top of that.
Besides, he had already spoken with Shamir just now.
He had used up his entire social quota for the next several days and did not want to communicate with any other Zergs for a while.
Naturally, Ulysses did not count.
“How about we go to the Ninth Military Region?” An Ruo suddenly suggested.
Xi'an and Claire were both there, as well as Uriel, who had been transferred over.
Oh, and Eugene too.
But that young master had recently gone to Tianjia to incubate an egg and had not returned yet.
Naturally, Ulysses had no objections.
Instead, An Ruo himself became worried again.
“Is that okay? It’s a Military Region, after all. Are we allowed to just go there? Would it cause some kind of bad impact?”
“It’s fine,” Ulysses told him. “I’ll tell them it’s only a private trip, not a military inspection. There’s no need for them to prepare as though facing a great enemy. It won’t affect anything.”
A private trip was even less of a reason to enter a Military Region.
An Ruo thought about it and considered whether he should change identities.
“I’ll go there as a Psychic Soothing Specialist. I can help soothe some of the military Female Zergs in the Military Region too. Eugene isn’t there, so the Ninth Military Region’s soothing workload should be heavier than usual.”
The moment Ulysses heard him say he wanted to switch to his identity as a Psychic Soothing Specialist, he frowned slightly, and his expression became somewhat unpleasant.
If the god went there as “Psychic Soothing Specialist Annor,” then there was absolutely no way he would behave intimately with Ulysses in front of other Zergs.
Ulysses was currently pregnant.
His possessiveness and his desire to be in contact with his Male Lord were stronger than usual.
He was somewhat unwilling to accept even a temporary separation.
The instant An Ruo saw his expression, he knew exactly what he was thinking.
He also realized the flaw in his suggestion and immediately regretted saying it, wishing he could swallow the words back down.
He did not want Ulysses to suffer any grievance either.
He wanted to be close to Ulysses too.
Changing into his Psychic Soothing Specialist identity meant the two of them would have to keep their distance in front of others.
What was the point of going on a date if they had to be separated?
They would have to think of another solution.
For a moment, An Ruo could not come up with anything good.
He looked at the somewhat unhappy Ulysses in front of him.
Something stirred in An Ruo’s heart.
He reached out, caught Ulysses by the belt, and hooked him closer.
Under Ulysses’s slightly startled gaze, An Ruo said,
“Are you hungry? I’ll give you some pheromones first.”
Right now, the most urgent thing was to coax Ulysses.
Everything else could be dealt with slowly.
An Ruo pushed Ulysses down onto the sofa and stroked his abdomen through the military uniform, his expression serious and careful.
Naturally, the pregnancy was not showing yet.
But when An Ruo thought about the life already growing inside there, he suddenly felt that the sofa was not quite safe enough and wanted to move Ulysses somewhere else.
But Ulysses, who had already prepared himself to be fed, had no intention of letting him leave.
He easily restrained the Male Zerg and demanded that he feed him right there.
Immediately.
At once.
Otherwise, he would take it himself.
Even the most traditional Female Zerg could have a domineering side.
And Ulysses was domineering by nature.
He merely concealed it well in front of An Ruo most of the time.
Only when he relaxed his guard could one occasionally glimpse a fragment of his true self beneath the surface.
An Ruo actually liked this version of Ulysses very much.
He was so completely bewitched that he could hardly stand it, yet he still insisted on pretending to be reserved.
When Ulysses refused to let him leave, An Ruo made a token protest before obediently giving in.
He wrapped an arm around Ulysses’s side, carefully shielding the pregnant Female Zerg as he fed him on the sofa.
