Chapter 140: Territory Renamed: White Bear Town
Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Territory Renamed: White Bear Town
Seawater rained down from the sky. In the distance, dead fish with their white bellies facing up floated to the surface.
Wally grinned, seemingly quite pleased with his performance.
He lifted his head and let out a triumphant roar, then visibly shrank back to his usual, endearingly clumsy form.
If Vili hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he would have never believed that this cute creature was the same terrifying beast from moments before.
"Well done, Wally!"
Vili crouched down and stroked the white fur on Wally’s head.
Wally let out a low rumble, clearly enjoying Vili’s touch.
"Alright, time to head back."
Scratching Wally’s forehead, Vili stood up.
Seeing this, Wally let out another low whine, a look of reluctance in his eyes.
"Alright, I’ll let you stay here for another half hour."
This was Wally’s first time seeing the ocean, and with his tendency to become fascinated by anything new, he was naturally captivated by it.
After getting Vili’s permission, Wally frolicked over to the water’s edge.
Vili found a dry patch of sand and sat down, watching Wally from a distance.
Wally quickly jumped into the sea. As a bear, he was a natural swimmer.
On the surface of the sea, Wally’s upper body remained still as his four short legs paddled furiously beneath the water, propelling him toward the dead fish.
CRUNCH, CRUNCH.
Wally swallowed the small fish in a single bite. As for the larger ones, he tore them apart with a few rips before they too disappeared into his belly.
Wally ate with immense joy. It wasn’t that he’d never had fish before, but he’d never tasted any this fresh. He was getting hooked.
Watching Wally in the sea, Vili fell into thought.
’He knew very well that Blue Whale Town was no longer short on Advanced Combat Power.’
’I’m a Middle Knight with the power of a One-Engraving Hanged Man, which gives me extremely powerful single-target attacks.’
’Wally, on the other hand, is a Mage-type Bronze Level Magical Beast. While not as strong as I am, he can unleash even greater power in group battles.’
’If Pirates invade again, Wally could stand on the shoreline and use the conductivity of seawater to launch powerful, targeted group attacks.’
Thinking of this, Vili smiled faintly.
The core of Blue Whale Town’s high-level defense was now in place.
...
「The next day.」
Lake and Vilia of the Ferren Family, along with Old Yor, were summoned to Vili’s study. Dane and Sandoor arrived as well, bringing a painter with them.
In the spacious room, only Lake and Vilia were seated; the rest were all standing.
By order of Baron Vili, they were to discuss a new name for Blue Whale Town and a family crest for the Ferren Family.
As the new Lord, Vili had no intention of keeping the name Blue Whale Town. It was his right as Lord to rename his domain.
Designing the family crest was even more important. Vili was now a nobleman, and every noble family needed its own crest. It was a matter of family honor.
"Is everyone here?"
Vili scanned the people in the room and put down the envelope and documents in his hand.
The envelope contained a letter from Grand Knight Kirk. He informed Vili that he had completely wiped out the Green Shell Pirate Gang and thanked him for the lead that helped track them down. The letter’s contents were secondary; its main purpose was to express goodwill.
Vili understood this, of course. He planned to write a personal reply later and have it delivered to Kirk. It was essential to maintain a good relationship with a Powerful Viscount who was held in high regard by Count Lumbar.
The documents, on the other hand, detailed Blue Whale Town’s current population and financial status.
Vili only gave them a cursory glance. As long as there were no major discrepancies, he could leave the detailed review to his subordinates.
"Everyone is here now," Sandoor replied.
Vili nodded. In truth, he already had his own ideas for the new name and the family crest. He had summoned the others, aside from Lake and Vilia, primarily to make them feel valued.
Being involved in naming the territory and designing the Lord’s family crest was a mark of status and a source of pride.
"Let’s begin, then," Vili said.
"I’ll go first!"
Vilia immediately raised her hand. She’d already decided on a new name for the town: Volibear Town.
But before she could say it, Vili cut her off. "You can go last."
Vilia pouted, a look of disdain on her face.
Then Vili turned to his father, Lake. "Father, what are your thoughts?"
"Hmm..."
Lake was becoming increasingly fond of that sound. He thought for a moment. "Let’s call it... Ferren Town. We can name the town after our family."
Vili smiled and shook his head. "Old Yor, what do you think?"
"Lord Baron... I..." Old Yor gave a dry laugh. "If it were up to me, I’d call it Bean Town."
The moment Old Yor finished speaking, the room erupted in laughter.
Old Yor laughed along with them. He knew this was just a formality, so he felt relaxed enough to make a joke.
"And you two?"
Vili looked at Sandoor and Dane.
These two men were his core political team.
"I have given it much thought but haven’t been able to come up with a suitable name. I believe Lord Baron should be the one to decide."
Sandoor and Dane gave the same response. As they gained more experience, they were gradually becoming more astute. By reading Vili’s attitude, they could tell he had already made up his mind, so they cleverly chose not to state an opinion.
"In that case, I’ll share my own thoughts."
Vili’s words served as the final decision. "The new name for the town will be... White Bear Town."
When Vili had been considering a new name for the town, "White Bear Town" was the first thing that had instinctively popped into his head.
The thought of Wally’s antics made Vili want to laugh, so he simply settled on it.
"That’s a good name."
Old Yor was the first to voice his support. He knew exactly how fond the Lord Baron was of the white bear named Volibear.
Lake also nodded, though he would have preferred to name it Ferren Town.
Sandoor and Dane also voiced their approval.
"Wait! I haven’t made my suggestion yet!"
Vilia suddenly realized she had been skipped.
Seeing her outburst, Vili put on an apologetic expression and said in a low voice, "Sorry, Vilia, I forgot about you. But the name White Bear Town has already been approved. As for your suggestion... let’s keep it in reserve for now."
"..."
Vilia fell silent—the kind of silence that barely contained an eruption.
’"Keep it in reserve for now"... That was just a polite way of saying "keep it in reserve forever."’
