I Transmigrated as a Peasant, but My System Wanna Make Me a Duke!
Chapter 139: True Thunderous Fierce Bear
Chapter 139: Chapter 139: True Thunderous Fierce Bear
"Knight Vili..."
Jarvis forced a smile, his expression an unreadable mix of bitterness and resignation.
"No, I mean Baron Vili."
Despite saying the words, Jarvis made no formal gesture of courtesy.
Vili didn’t mind. He knew perfectly well that Jarvis’s heart was in turmoil.
Jarvis had been back in Blue Whale Town for several days. Upon his return, the news of Baron Enton’s murder and the collapse of the town’s regime had completely broken him. Though arrogant and conceited, he was at his core a man of deep loyalty. The death of the Baron who had raised him for over twenty years, coupled with the bloody massacre in his hometown, had sent him spiraling into despair.
Seeing Jarvis in this state, Vili knew he had yet to emerge from the depths of his grief over Baron Enton’s death.
"I came specifically to thank you."
Jarvis’s tone was as light and casual as ever, but his eyes had lost their former fiery spirit. "Thank you for killing Casli and Yavira and avenging the Lord Baron. I will always remember this debt."
From Jarvis’s tone and expression, Vili could tell the words came from the heart.
"It was nothing."
Vili waved his hand dismissively.
"I also came to say my goodbyes. I’m planning to take Jolena and leave the duchy’s borderlands for the interior."
Jolena was Baron Enton’s daughter. She had been pursuing Jarvis for some time, but he was a philanderer who never considered committing himself to a single woman. Now, however, his perspective had changed.
Vili nodded upon hearing this.
It was no surprise that Jarvis had made such a decision. With his personality, he wouldn’t be happy staying in either Diamond Town or Blue Whale Town. And with his strength, he could make a home anywhere; he wouldn’t have to live a transient life like other displaced people.
"Before I leave, I have one thing to ask of you," Jarvis said. "I hope you can speak to Lord Kels and ask him to protect Baron Enton’s family. I will forever be in his debt for this, and I swear I will do everything in my power to repay it one day."
In a way, Baron Enton’s family was his own, and their safety was the one thing weighing on his mind.
Jarvis knew that Baron Enton’s inheritance alone wouldn’t be enough to guarantee Baron Kels’s long-term protection. Only the promise of a Genius Knight like himself, combined with Vili’s persuasion, would suffice.
"I will."
Vili didn’t particularly like Jarvis, but he didn’t dislike him either. Being on good terms with a Genius Knight like him was certainly not a bad thing.
"Thank you."
Jarvis didn’t linger. Before turning to leave, he took a long look at Wally, who was lying on the ground scratching its ear.
Ordinarily, he would have been fascinated by the white bear. But right now, he simply wasn’t in the mood.
Vili shook his head as he watched Jarvis’s figure disappear into the night.
He turned to Wally. "Let’s go."
Wally sprang up from the ground, shook out its white fur, and padded along behind Vili.
Vili led Wally toward the coast.
Although the recent turmoil had passed and some of the bolder fishermen were already heading out to sea, coastal security remained tight, with Guards stationed at regular intervals.
When the Guards saw Vili approaching with the white bear, they all hurried to salute him, and he returned their gestures with a polite nod.
After becoming the new Lord, Vili had won over the people of Blue Whale Town with surprising ease.
For one, his stunning performance as the leader of the coastal defense reinforcements—where he had slain a large number of Pirates—had earned him a stellar reputation. For another, the fact that he had personally killed Casli and Yavira, the leaders of the Green Shell Pirate Gang who had toppled the previous regime, had earned him the Guards’ complete trust. The common folk also believed that Vili had the Ability to protect Blue Whale Town.
Thus, Vili had managed to skip the long, arduous process of winning over the populace.
Vili led Wally to a deserted stretch of coastline. He dismissed the few Guards stationed there, telling them not to approach even if they saw something unusual. Soon, only Vili and Wally—a man and a bear—remained on the beach.
"Alright, Wally, face the sea. Show me the Ability of a Bronze Level Magical Beast."
Vili said to Wally, his voice carrying on the night’s sea breeze.
At Vili’s words, Wally’s ears shot up. Sparks of blue lightning danced in its eyes, its excitement palpable.
It didn’t move immediately. Instead, it padded across the sand one step at a time, moving toward the water’s edge.
The waves lapped at the shore, washing over Wally’s paws. It seemed to enjoy the cool sensation, letting out a low rumble from its throat as the ethereal blue light in its eyes grew more intense.
"Let the show begin!"
Vili boomed with laughter.
Wally let out a roar in response.
It slowly raised its forepaws, planting its hind legs on the ground and straightening its body.
Tendrils of ethereal blue electricity shot out from Wally’s body, dancing and leaping through the air.
’This feeling...’
Vili narrowed his eyes, taking a few small steps back.
Even as a Middle Knight, the terrifying aura gradually emanating from Wally’s body made Vili feel a sense of dread.
Moonlight spilled across the sea, wispy clouds drifted by, and the tide ebbed and flowed.
A white bear, crackling with arcs of electricity, held its paws together as it faced the pale, enormous moon.
Suddenly, the white bear moved.
The ethereal blue in its pupils instantly morphed into hexagram sigils, and the sound of crackling, exploding arcs of electricity erupted from within its body.
WHOOSH!
Wally’s body abruptly expanded. Originally about five feet long, it suddenly swelled to a height of nearly ten feet. In the instant its body transformed, an identical hexagram sigil appeared between its brows.
Wally roared again, and this time, the sound echoed across the entire coastline.
Its tightly corded muscles and immensely powerful build made Wally look terrifyingly savage in the moonlight.
It slammed its forepaws down. With its every move, lightning flashed and serpents of electricity coiled around its limbs.
BOOM!
A massive tidal wave of lightning erupted from before Wally, crashing into the surface of the sea in a torrent of endless, ethereal blue energy.
Instantly, the sea roiled and seawater blasted into the air as a vast patch of brilliant azure light exploded across the night sky.
Standing amidst the lightning and moonlight, Wally’s aura was glacial and imposing—the very image of a Thunderous Fierce Bear.
’A Thunderous Fierce Bear from Freljord, is it...?’
Vili suddenly felt the urge to laugh out loud.
From that single strike alone, he could tell that the power Wally had just displayed was at the absolute peak of the Bronze Level!
