Chapter 116: Anyway, It’s Not Me
Chapter 116: Chapter 116: Anyway, It’s Not Me
’Hahahaha, this is hilarious. You’ve been championing Cassandra Lynch and fighting her battles all this time, but in the end, you don’t even know who her parents are on paper? No wonder you’re the type to get sold and still help count the money. She’s both stupid and vicious. You’re not vicious, at least... you’re just plain stupid.’
Even Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain couldn’t stand to watch their son’s foolishness any longer. Exasperated, they said, "That’s Mr. and Mrs. Lynch—the parents of the Miss Lynch you keep mentioning."
It finally dawned on Simon Chamberlain, and his eyes widened in shock. "How is that possible? No, no, no, this has to be fake. Cassandra clearly said..."
Mrs. Chamberlain was furious. She raised her hand and smacked her son’s shoulder. "Cassandra, Cassandra! You believe everything she tells you? Why don’t I ever see you trusting me and your father this much? Is she more important than your father and I?"
"Mom, what are you talking about? Of course she’s..."
’Of course she’s more important to him. Why else would he help her offend so many people and screw over his own parents?’
The Donovans’ mouths twitched. Looking over at the three Lynches, who looked ready to eat someone alive, they had to admit that Arabella Donovan’s commentary was spot-on. They would have been better off giving birth to a piece of BBQ pork than a son like him.
But venting in her head wasn’t enough to quell Arabella Donovan’s anger. She thought about all the things this man had just said about her fourth sister...
’Damn it. Despite all my precautions, I still couldn’t stop these people from running their mouths in front of my sister.’
She crossed her arms and said sarcastically, "Let me guess what she told you. Oh, she probably said that Mr. Lynch and Ms. Sullivan died young and didn’t leave behind any DNA samples. And my fourth sister, seeing this opportunity, deliberately got plastic surgery to look like Ms. Sullivan in order to muddle the waters, making everyone suspicious but unable to produce any evidence."
Simon Chamberlain’s face turned a sickly green, a constipated look on his face. It was obvious Arabella Donovan had hit the nail on the head again.
Mrs. Chamberlain shot her son a look, exasperated. "If there are no samples, then where did this DNA report come from?"
Simon Chamberlain subconsciously glanced toward the Lynch Family, looking like he wanted to say something but stopped himself.
Arabella Donovan let out a soft laugh and continued to twist the knife. "Did she also tell you that the Lynch Family can’t be trusted? That they’re coveting the inheritance her parents left behind and want to take it for themselves, so they’re trying everything they can to find an excuse to kick her out of the house before she comes of age? And my fourth sister’s appearance just happened to give them the perfect reason, so no matter what my sister did, they would cooperate—including faking this DNA report."
After finishing, Arabella spread her hands with a smirk. "See? It’s a closed loop. She’s covered all the bases. No one can be trusted except for her. Everyone else is lying, and only she is telling the truth. Do you believe that? I don’t."
"But... but..." The conviction that had been propping Simon Chamberlain up was already starting to crumble.
He looked at Arabella Donovan, then at the Lynch Family, and finally, his gaze fell on the paternity test report in his hand. He was utterly bewildered.
"So who exactly is the human trafficker’s daughter?"
Looking at his dazed expression, Arabella Donovan almost burst out laughing. "Well, it’s not me, and it’s not my fourth sister."
Simon Chamberlain: "..." ’There are only three people in question. If you rule out the two of you, isn’t that just stating the obvious?’
However, Arabella Donovan’s words did remind Mr. Lynch of something.
"This paternity test was done using a hair sample from Eloise and the DNA samples my younger brother and his wife left at the hospital when they donated bone marrow twenty years ago. It is absolutely real and valid. Of course, based on what Cassandra Lynch has told you, you might not be willing to believe my side of the story."
"But Cassandra Lynch’s biological father is still alive. Like her biological mother, he’s also a human trafficker. After he was released from prison over a year ago, he has been in frequent contact with her. A paternity test between the two of them wouldn’t be fake, would it? In this matter, it’s clear who is right and who is wrong. The heavens are watching. What is true cannot be made false, and what is false can never become true!"
When Simon Chamberlain heard Mr. Lynch say that Cassandra Lynch’s biological father was still alive and was also a human trafficker, he could no longer deceive himself. His pupils trembled in shock, and he swayed on his feet, looking as if he might collapse.
Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain had long since realized that their son had been deceived and used as a weapon. But the boy was just too stubborn, the type who wouldn’t turn back until he’d run headfirst into a wall.
But he was their son, after all. What could they do, disown him? The two of them could only hold their noses and clean up his mess.
"We are truly sorry. This child of ours isn’t the brightest; he believes whatever anyone tells him. It was indeed his fault for causing such a scene today. Punish him as you see fit; we have no objections. We only hope that you can forgive him this once, on account of him being deceived."
Seeing his parents apologizing to others for his mistake, Simon Chamberlain lowered his head, his face full of guilt, and didn’t say another word.
Aurora Donovan and the others, who had just been screaming for Simon Chamberlain’s head moments ago, exchanged a look and backed down. Even Arabella Donovan couldn’t help but sigh at the scene.
’Why do they say that entitled parents are more infuriating than their bratty kids? Bratty kids are certainly awful, but if all parents were as reasonable and communicative as these two, it doesn’t seem so infuriating anymore. In fact, you end up feeling sorry for them for being stuck with such a blockheaded son who only knows how to cause them trouble.’
The surrounding crowd looked at Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain, then at the Lynch Family, whose expressions had softened slightly. They realized it was true!
But as satisfying as it was to see him put in his place, they weren’t the ones who had been truly hurt. They had no right to forgive him on someone else’s behalf.
And so, as soon as Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain finished speaking, everyone subconsciously turned to look at Eloise Donovan and her sister.
Eloise Donovan had, by now, somewhat calmed the emotional turmoil she felt from seeing the paternity test. Seeing that Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain were sincere in their apology, and that Simon Chamberlain had indeed been misled by Cassandra Lynch into doing something as foolish as causing trouble for the hosts in public, she found his actions somewhat excusable.
"If we really get to the bottom of this, the problem is Cassandra Lynch. However, it’s a fact that Simon Chamberlain was misled, and it’s also a fact that he caused this awkward scene by coming here to make trouble. But my third brother and..." Eloise Donovan turned to look at Zane Lynch.
Zane Lynch stiffened, feeling more nervous now than when he had helped his sister fill out her college applications years ago.
"Cousin..."
"YES!"
Zane Lynch had instinctively shouted his reply. When he realized that everyone around him had turned to look, and that his parents were giving him a look of jealous exasperation that screamed, "You punk, she wasn’t calling you!" he realized he’d just done something incredibly stupid.
He awkwardly rubbed the back of his head, but he couldn’t keep the grin from spreading across his face.
Watching him made Mr. and Mrs. Lynch, along with the Donovan brothers, feel their fists itching to punch him in his smug face.
Arabella Donovan couldn’t help but hide behind Mrs. Donovan to stifle her laughter, thinking that this Zane was a natural-born comedian.
Eloise Donovan hadn’t expected him to cry out like that either. After a moment of surprise, she continued, "But my third brother and my cousin just gave him a beating, which let me vent my frustration. So, let’s call it even. The matter is settled."
Then, Eloise Donovan’s tone suddenly hardened. "However, Simon Chamberlain still needs to apologize to my sister. After all, this incident was technically because of me. My sister was baselessly slandered by him today, and she was only dragged into this mess because of me."
