I Read Their Tragic Fates, and My Family Reads My Mind?

Chapter 115: He Was Asking For It

Chapter 115: Chapter 115: He Was Asking For It

As the atmosphere grew increasingly tense over what Aurora Donovan had said, the mocked guest’s face turned ashen, and he was about to jump up and start a fight.

At that critical moment, one of the aunts stepped forward. "Allow me to explain."

Apparently, when Arabella Donovan had fainted earlier, the entire Donovan family, worried about her condition, had gone upstairs with her.

With no one from the host family left downstairs, murmurs immediately broke out among the guests.

Most of the guests, however, were respectable and knew their place. They only discussed the recent events in hushed tones, expressing their concern over the severity of Arabella Donovan’s condition.

But unexpectedly, there was one tactless fool among the guests. Seeing that the hosts were away, he immediately began running his mouth without a shred of decency.

One moment, he was mocking Arabella Donovan, calling her a country bumpkin from the middle of nowhere and questioning her so-called "divine foresight." He claimed it was all an act and that some of the guests were just playing along to suck up to Mr. and Mrs. Donovan, cooperating with her little mystical charade.

The next, he was sneering that the Donovan Family was sanctimonious. He said they knew full well that Eloise Donovan was the daughter of the human trafficker who had separated them from their real daughter for over a decade, yet they kept her around anyway just to protect their public image, acting as if nothing had happened. He called it utterly hypocritical.

Rochelle Rowland and the others who had listened turned grim. Setting aside the matter of Eloise Donovan, this man was slandering Arabella’s "mystical act" by claiming that anyone who believed her was just putting on a show to curry favor with the Donovans. He was blatantly insulting all of them.

The group was furious and about to confront him when two young people rushed out and gave the man a sound thrashing. The two of them even nearly came to blows over who could land more punches first.

The Donovan family, after hearing the whole story: "..."

After a brief, stunned silence, everyone turned in unison to look at the two youths standing quietly to the side.

Aurora Donovan snorted, looking completely unapologetic. "He was asking for it."

"Exactly," Zane Lynch agreed. "With a mouth that foul, he was practically begging for a beating. We just gave him what he wanted!"

Mr. Donovan gave the two youths a helpless glance. ’Ah, to be young and reckless.’

In truth, he agreed with them. If it were him, however, he would have chosen a more subtle—and more painful—way to teach the man a lesson.

With no intention of scolding the pair, Mr. Donovan decisively shifted his gaze to Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain, who had heard the commotion and rushed over to defend their son.

"How do you two propose we handle this?"

The couple exchanged an awkward glance, apparently having never imagined their son would cause such a huge scene.

"This is indeed our Samuel’s fault. You can’t blame you two." Mrs. Chamberlain even gave her son a push. "Hurry up and apologize to the two Miss Donovans, now!"

But this Mr. Chamberlain was a stubborn one. Seeing that his own parents weren’t on his side, his temper flared.

"Apologize for what? What did I say that was wrong? That woman was just putting on an act! And that Eloise Donovan, she’s nothing but the daughter of a human trafficker—greedy, selfish, and vain..."

"You’re still running your mouth..." Zane Lynch and Aurora Donovan rolled up their sleeves, ready to strike again.

The only difference was that this time, Hector Donovan stood behind them, looking ready for blood.

Unfortunately, before they could land a blow, they were stopped.

Mr. Lynch stepped in front of his daughter, looking down at the reckless young man. His expression was visibly turning to ice.

"Who told you," he asked, "that a child of my family is the daughter of a human trafficker?"

Samuel Chamberlain froze for a few seconds. He quickly put two and two together, and his eyes widened in shock. "You’re... the one from the Lynch Family?"

"You know who I am?" Mr. Lynch’s expression darkened. "So you’re deliberately spreading these rumors to harm my niece?"

"No, I’m not..." Samuel Chamberlain denied it instinctively, but he couldn’t form a coherent explanation.

Arabella Donovan only needed to see his reaction to guess who he was working for.

"You’re working for Cassandra Lynch, aren’t you?"

’Look at him, all fired up for a common enemy like he’s been bewitched. He must be one of the little fish in Cassandra Lynch’s pond.’

The Donovan family: "..."

The gossiping onlookers: "!!!" ’It’s that Cassandra Lynch again! Does this mean we’re about to get the next Chapter of this drama?’

Sure enough, the moment Samuel Chamberlain heard Arabella Donovan, the color drained from his face and his eyes began to shift nervously.

Seeing his reaction, everyone knew what was going on. Their expressions grew grim, especially the three members of the Lynch family who had come specifically for Eloise Donovan’s coming-of-age ceremony.

Arabella Donovan was furious too. ’If the tiger doesn’t roar, do they really think it’s a Hello Kitty?’

"Let me guess how she spun it for you. Did she say my fourth sister is the daughter of a human trafficker, who was swapped with her—Cassandra—at birth? And that after being found out, my sister targeted her again, getting plastic surgery to look like Mrs. Lynch, then running to the Lynch Family to sow suspicion and steal what was rightfully hers: the identity of the family’s second daughter?"

The onlookers, who were just there for the drama, were stunned by the sheer amount of information packed into her words. Once they recovered, they couldn’t help but immediately start whispering to the people beside them.

After all, tales of switched-at-birth heiresses were one of the public’s favorite melodramatic tropes.

Miss Lynch, however, was furious. "Is that really what she said?"

Samuel Chamberlain never expected his private conversation with Cassandra Lynch to be repeated back to him verbatim. A flicker of guilt was quickly replaced by a strange sense of righteousness.

"So what if she did? Was she wrong?"

Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain were taken aback. They had thought their son was just being an idiot, but who knew there was a whole conspiracy behind it!

With decades more life experience than their son, the two of them realized in an instant what had happened: their foolish boy had been used and was still completely in the dark!

Miss Lynch’s face flushed red. The more she learned about Cassandra Lynch, the more she felt she’d been blind for years, failing to realize she had raised an insatiable wolf in her own home.

"Of course she was wrong! Take a good look at this and figure out who’s really lying. Don’t be someone’s pawn and not even know it."

Hearing Miss Lynch’s words, the onlookers subconsciously edged closer, trying to get a clear look at what was in Samuel Chamberlain’s hands.

The document hit him, and he stood there stunned for a moment before remembering to turn it over. His eyes immediately fell on two bolded lines at the bottom.

"Based on the available information and DNA comparison results, the data supports that Eloise Donovan and Gideon Lynch share a biological father-daughter relationship."

"Based on the available information and DNA comparison results, the data supports that Eloise Donovan and Rona Sullivan share a biological mother-daughter relationship."

Eloise Donovan trembled, her gaze fixed on the report in Samuel Chamberlain’s hand with a complicated mix of emotions.

She had known the result for some time, but seeing it laid bare like this, she couldn’t help the turmoil of emotions in her heart.

Mrs. Donovan noticed her distress and patted her daughter’s shoulder reassuringly.

The members of the Lynch family couldn’t help but glance back at her, their expressions cautious, afraid she wouldn’t be able to accept the truth and would refuse to acknowledge them.

Only Samuel Chamberlain remained completely bewildered. After a long moment, he said something that nearly made everyone collapse.

"Who are Gideon Lynch and Rona Sullivan? And why are you showing me their paternity test?"

The onlookers: "..."

Arabella: Pfft...
