I Married the President
Chapter 744: As Long as You Like It
Chapter 744: Chapter 744: As Long as You Like It
Claire Sinclair was a little worried. "But the doctor said it’s best to wait until tomorrow to be discharged. My stomach still hurts now and then, and I’m not very good at holding the baby yet. I’m afraid that if we go home and I run into something I don’t understand, there won’t be a doctor there to teach me."
Adrian Quincy’s long fingers caressed her cheek as he said softly, "So you can rest with peace of mind, I had Felix Collier take a three-month course on early childhood care. He’ll be at home to look after you."
"You mean Dr. Collier?" Claire raised an eyebrow. ’But Dr. Collier’s a male doctor.’
Adrian Quincy nodded. "I’ll feel more at ease with him looking after you and the baby."
"You’re not jealous?" Claire challenged.
Adrian Quincy stated with righteous confidence, "I’ve already warned him. If he dares to have any improper thoughts about you, I’ll chop his hands off."
Claire: "..."
’What a terrifying man!’
’He has a point, though.’
’Staying in the hospital is convenient for getting help from doctors, but it’s a huge hassle for meals. Plus, I have to bother the nursing staff to do my laundry... and it’s all personal stuff. It’s so embarrassing.’
"Alright then, let’s go home." With that, Claire started to get out of bed.
Adrian suddenly spoke up. "Let me hold him."
Claire paused. She first showed him how to hold a newborn before carefully handing the baby over. "You have to be careful. Support the baby’s neck and don’t let his head flop back. It’s really dangerous."
"I know. Don’t worry."
"I’m not reassured at all. It’s your fault for having such a problem with him in the first place."
"Claire, I would never hurt our child. Don’t worry."
"Then hurry up and tell the baby you love him."
Adrian frowned. It wasn’t that he couldn’t say the words. ’I just don’t want to give this little guy a freebie. He hasn’t done a thing and he already expects a declaration of love from me.’
But then he looked at his wife...
’Ah, what the hell. What’s the harm in swallowing my pride to make Claire happy?’
"Baby, I love you."
"That’s more like it!" Claire was very satisfied.
She paused for a moment, then remembered something. "Oh, by the way, I picked a name for the baby."
"Oh? Let’s hear it."
"Justin York. I chose it for its meaning: ’to speak truth to power, even at the risk of offense.’ Even the wisest person can be foolish at times, so I hope there will always be someone to offer us frank advice. And that person shouldn’t just be one of us adults; a child’s opinion is also very important. What do you think?"
"If you like it, that’s all that matters." Of course Adrian had no objections. In public, he was the high and mighty king; in private, all he wanted was to do her bidding, as long as she was happy.
Claire sighed in exasperation. "Honestly, you..."
Adrian quickly added, "Elijah Quincy. It’s a fine name."
"Really?" Claire asked, uncertain.
Adrian nodded. "You’re right. Even the wisest of men can’t see things clearly sometimes. I need someone who will speak truth to power. You were very thoughtful to consider that."
Claire felt a little shy at his sudden praise. "You’re our king now, but I... I have nothing. I’m stuck at home for my postpartum confinement, and I don’t even know when I’ll be able to go back to work."
Adrian replied casually, "Strictly speaking, my wife has plenty of work to do as well."
Claire immediately panicked. "I don’t like diplomacy! I like being a journalist and writing articles!"
Adrian gave her a reassuring look and said softly, "I know you don’t enjoy that, so I won’t force you. But if you want to go back to being a journalist, you have to let your body recover first."
"Does that mean I can go back to work next month?" Claire asked naively.
