Chapter 618: Chapter 618: The Tender Grass Will Be Eaten by the Old Cow

Claire Sinclair said calmly, "We can’t rule out the possibility that this livestreamer is staging the whole thing. There have been too many cases like this online in recent years. Some influencers will do anything, no matter how shameless, to get famous."

Theo Rhodes propped his chin on his hand and said, almost to himself, "That’s why I want to find out the truth. Regardless of whether the livestreamer actually went missing, I’ve wanted to get to the bottom of the hauntings at Woodforest Community for a long time."

Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "That place is dangerous. Mr. Quincy sent someone in once, but they came back empty-handed."

Theo’s interest was instantly piqued. "Who did Mr. Quincy send in? Adjutant Hawkins?"

"How did you know?"

"Just a guess. Adjutant Hawkins is as gutsy as they come. But how exactly did he fail?"

"They say that after Aiden Howkins came out of there, he had nightmares for several days straight, and it was the same dream every time."

"It’s that creepy?" Theo’s eyes lit up, and he looked like he wanted to rush off to Woodforest Community for an adventure right then and there.

Claire Sinclair raised her hand and smacked him on the head. "You brat. If you want to go to a place like that for a story, you have to get Teacher Hartwell’s approval. In any case, there’s no way I’m letting you go."

Theo muttered under his breath, "Master, if you don’t talk to Hanson, he’ll definitely never agree to let me go. Just let me give it a shot. Someone has to do this."

Claire looked at his face and said irritably, "You don’t have enough experience. Even if someone were to go, it should be Teacher Hartwell."

"Then you go convince Hanson to investigate, and I’ll be his assistant!"

"..." ’So that’s what this guy was really after, huh?’

Claire sighed. "Fine, I’ll go talk to him about this now."

"I’ll go with you, Master!"

"Suit yourself."

Claire led the way into Henry Hartwell’s office.

She had just opened the door when she abruptly slammed it shut and backed away.

Theo blinked, asking curiously, "Master, what’s wrong?"

"Um..." Claire paused. The scene she had just witnessed flashed through her mind. It was unbelievable, but she was too embarrassed to say anything. "Let’s wait two minutes before we go in," she said instead.

"What’s going on?" Theo craned his neck, dying to peek inside and see for himself.

Claire mentally counted off a few moments. When she figured enough time had passed, she knocked. "Teacher Hartwell, may I come in?"

The words had barely left her mouth when the door opened.

Bonnie Yates walked out, her face bright red. She didn’t dare to even look at Claire, and after muttering, "Teacher Hartwell is waiting for you inside," she scurried away.

Claire watched her leave, a thoughtful look on her face.

Theo was completely baffled. "Master, what’s with Bonnie Yates? Her face was so red."

"Maybe she’s not feeling well. Let’s go in." Claire pretended she hadn’t seen a thing and pushed the door open.

Inside, Henry Hartwell was sitting at his desk as if nothing was amiss, holding a document and reading with rapt attention, as if he hadn’t even noticed them come in.

Claire glanced at the man’s dead-serious expression, but a different image floated up in her mind. ’What a waste,’ she thought with an inward sigh. ’Teacher Hartwell would have made a great actor.’

"Teacher Hartwell," Claire began, unable to resist a little digression before getting to the point. "Does our newspaper have a policy on office romance?"

Henry Hartwell answered nonchalantly, "As long as it doesn’t affect your work, there’s no problem with dating."

Claire immediately slapped Theo on the shoulder. "Theo, I think you and Bonnie Yates would make a cute couple. You’d better make your move soon, or some old geezer is going to snatch her up."
