I Married the President
Chapter 613: Someone’s Looking for You
Chapter 613: Chapter 613: Someone’s Looking for You
Claire Sinclair’s heart leaped into her throat again, but she knew this couldn’t be rushed. She could only try to console herself. ’Once Ivy Tanner’s belly starts to show, we won’t be able to hide this anymore. The sooner it’s resolved, the better. I’ll have to think of another plan.’
Adrian Quincy: Claire, just wait a little longer.
Claire Sinclair didn’t understand and texted him back: Wait for what?
Adrian Quincy: For Lucas Rhodes.
Claire Sinclair: But he already refused.
Adrian Quincy: Trust me. Just wait.
Claire Sinclair: All right, then.
Just as she sent the message, Claire Sinclair received a text on her phone: I can marry her, but on one condition.
Pleasantly surprised, Claire Sinclair replied: What condition?
Lucas Rhodes: On the day of the wedding, I want your boyfriend to be there.
Claire Sinclair didn’t reply immediately. Instead, she took a screenshot of the message, sent it to Adrian Quincy, and added: Mr. Quincy, he’s set another condition.
Adrian Quincy: I can be there.
Claire Sinclair: Okay, I’ll reply to him now.
Adrian Quincy: Mm.
Claire Sinclair immediately wrote back to Lucas Rhodes: Mr. Quincy says he can.
Lucas Rhodes: I’m hosting a small celebratory banquet tomorrow night. You and Xiao Tao come, and bring her with you. I’ll talk to her first.
Claire Sinclair: Okay.
’Finally, it’s settled!’
Claire Sinclair immediately called The Golden Brocade Palace. She didn’t mention the celebratory banquet, only that she was taking Ivy Tanner out tomorrow night. Ivy Tanner was ecstatic and chattered excitedly for several minutes before hanging up.
Pushing the matter aside, she prepared to work on her manuscript.
She hadn’t even thought of a title for her article when Henry Hartwell suddenly walked over. "Claire Sinclair, someone’s in the office for you."
"For me? Who?" Claire Sinclair asked, puzzled.
"Just go on in," Henry Hartwell said, not giving her an answer.
Claire Sinclair nodded and walked into the conference room.
Seated in the conference room were four elderly men and Mrs. Quincy. When she entered, all eyes turned to her.
Claire Sinclair frowned, walked over, and sat down opposite the group. "Mrs. Quincy, and these gentlemen are...?"
Mrs. Quincy’s face was grim. Her gaze swept over the four men as she introduced them one by one. "Adrian’s eldest grand-uncle, his third grand-uncle, his second maternal grand-uncle, and his fifth grand-uncle."
’So, they’re all elders of the Quincy Family?’
Though confused, Claire Sinclair greeted them politely. "Hello. May I ask why you wished to see me?"
Mrs. Quincy said bluntly, "We’re here today to talk about your marriage to Adrian. I heard you two had an argument?"
Claire Sinclair’s brow furrowed slightly. "Mrs. Quincy, what do you mean by asking that?"
Mrs. Quincy snorted. "Coming here today wasn’t my idea. The elders wanted to see you."
Claire Sinclair’s gaze swept over the four elderly men. "Gentlemen," she said politely, "if you have something you wish to say, please be direct. I’m listening."
One of the men spoke first. "Get a divorce. Even if you stay married, you will never be entered into the Quincy family registry."
Another man chimed in, "Without our approval, you will never be a true wife of the Quincy family."
A third man struck the table forcefully but said nothing.
The last of the four simply stared at Claire Sinclair, remaining silent.
A smile that didn’t reach her eyes touched Claire Sinclair’s lips. "How strange. What does my marriage to Mr. Quincy have to do with any of you? On what grounds are you demanding a divorce? Did our marriage violate some law in Aridia? Did it harm your interests? Or is it that you simply can’t stand me as a person, and that’s why you don’t want me and Mr. Quincy to be together?"
Mrs. Quincy’s voice was sharp. "Claire Sinclair, what kind of attitude is that? These four men are elders whom Adrian has respected since childhood!"
