I Just Wanted A Soft Life, Not A Demon Husband

Chapter 361: Rin's Busiess Proposal

Elyn’s POV

I gave Rin a look.

“And you are going to use that to do what exactly?” I asked her.

“My lady,” she began, sounding as though I had just said something particularly insufferable. “Of course I’m going to use it to remove him from you. Detachment.”

Yes.

Detachment.

For some reason, I did not believe she had no ulterior motives with that weapon in her hand.

There was just something about the way she was holding it.

The way her eyes were shining.

The way the weapon itself seemed to be staring at Azerion.

And, most importantly, the way Rin was smiling.

That was not the smile of someone who wanted to gently separate a sleeping child from another person.

That was the smile of someone who had been waiting for an excuse to use a terrifying weapon.

I swallowed.

“Rin…”

“My lady?”

“You’re not going to hurt him, are you?”

She tilted her head.

“Of course not.”

I relaxed slightly.

Then she added, “Unless necessary.”

I immediately stopped relaxing.

Before I could ask what she meant by unless necessary, we heard a knock.

“Your Highness, can I come in?” Vaelory asked.

“Of course,” I muttered.

The door opened, and Vaelory stepped inside.

Then she paused.

She looked at me.

Then at Rin.

Then at the weapon in Rin’s hands.

Then back at me.

There was a beat of silence.

She blinked once.

Twice.

It was almost as though she was trying to understand what she was looking at.

Honestly, I couldn’t blame her.

“What…” she began slowly. “What is that in your hand?”

Rin huffed.

“It’s a weapon of detachment.”

Vaelory did not look convinced.

“Detachment,” she muttered. “Right. Yes. That’s… ahhhh!”

I had no way to prevent the sound from reaching my ears.

And someone please explain to me why the person holding the weapon of mass destruction was screaming too.

Vaelory stopped.

Rin stopped.

Even the weapon seemed to pause.

“Why are you screaming?” Vaelory asked her.

“Why were you screaming?” Rin asked her.

“The weapon blinked… at me.”

“Oh,” Rin said as she glanced at the weapon. “That’s just how it is.”

Vaelory stared at the weapon and it stared back.

I swear its eyes even narrowed.

She took one cautious step backward. Yes, better safe than sorry.

“Why were you screaming?” she asked Rin again.

“You gave me a shock.”

“So you screamed because I screamed?”

“Yes.”

“That makes no sense,” Vaelory argued.

“So I can’t scream because someone gave me a shock now?” Rin asked.

“You are a demon. Why would you even be shocked that a human like me screamed?”

Rin stared at her flatly.

“Have you heard your scream?”

“Well, I have. I have ears, after all.”

“Then you must know it’s quite loud. If you were a demon, you could take down an entire mountain with those vocal cords.”

“I think that’s an exaggeration,” Vaelory argued. “My scream is not that loud. It just accurately projects my shock and emotions at the time.”

“Well, I do not agree with that.”

Rin adjusted her grip on the enormous weapon.

“And if not for the fact that this demon was likely pretending to sleep, your scream would have woken him up. I’m very certain the king is even awake right now, considering how loud it was.”

Rin paused, then she slowly turned toward Vaelory.

There was a strange look in her eyes.

It was one I had learned to recognize.

Intrigue and perhaps mischief.

I had no idea how she was able to portray both so perfectly with such subtle expressions, nor why I had become capable of understanding those expressions so accurately.

But I knew that look.

And I immediately knew that whatever was about to come out of her mouth was probably going to be ridiculous.

“Say, human,” she began.

Vaelory looked suspicious.

“Yes?”

“Would you be interested in a business arrangement with me?”

Vaelory herself looked intrigued.

“What business?”

“A very profitable one.”

Vaelory’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“What kind of business?”

Rin’s lips curled into a grin.

“We get to sell your screams to other demons.”

See? Ridiculous, just as I had predicted.

“Excuse me?” Vaelory said.

“Your screams,” Rin repeated. “They are loud. Very loud.”

“Thank you?”

“It was not a compliment.”

“Oh.”

Vaelory seemed to consider this for a moment.

“And how exactly would we sell my screams?”

Rin grinned.

“I have just the thing but we shall discuss it once we are done with this demon.”

She lifted the enormous demonic plier slightly.

The weapon’s eyes blinked.

Vaelory immediately took another step away from it.

A strange metallic sound came from the weapon.

Clack.

“Rin,” I called out.

“Yes, my lady?”

“Don’t you think this is too dangerous?” I glanced at the enormous jaws. “He is but a child, after all, and he’s just sleeping.”

Rin looked at me as though I had just said something incredibly foolish.

“My lady, demon children are different from human children.” She gestured toward Azerion. “And this demon, per se, has ulterior motives. I am a hundred and fifty-one thousand eight hundred and forty-one trillion percent sure of it.”

I stared at her.

There was a brief silence.

“First time I’m hearing a percent used like that.” I muttered.

She shrugged. “I learnt ot from a human. But anyway, I am sure of what I’m saying.”

She shifted her grip on the weapon.

“Just let me detach him from you, my lady, so we can get you prepared for your outing with the King. And I daresay the faster we do it, the better.”

I wasn’t entirely convinced.

Actually, I was very much convinced that this was a terrible idea.

“Rin, perhaps we could just—”

I wasn’t even given a chance to finish.

She suddenly raised the weapon and the enormous jaws opened.

I stared at them.

The jagged edges caught the light as they slowly parted, revealing just how horrifying the thing actually was up close.

There was no way this had been designed by someone who valued human—or demonic—life.

The hinge groaned.

Its eyes glowed.

And Rin angled it directly toward Azerion.

More specifically…his neck.

My heart almost flew out my chest.

“Rin!”

She ignored me.

The look on her face was one of pure delight.

It made me seriously question whether she was actually trying to kill this demon.

“Wait!”

The jaws moved closer.

Azerion didn’t stir.

He was still sleeping peacefully, completely unaware that a gigantic demonic pair of pliers was approaching his neck.

Rin let out a dark delighted giggle and I felt a chill run down my spine.

“Rin, don’t—”

Azerion’s eyes flew open, his pupils narrowed into slits.

His forked tongue shot out as he hissed loudly.

And what did Rin do in reply?

She giggled delightedly.

“See, my lady,” she said. “It works as fast as the King’s threat.”

I couldn’t even deny that because I was free from Azerion’s hold because of what she had done and I could finally move about freely.
