I Just Wanted A Soft Life, Not A Demon Husband
Chapter 362: The Morning Circus
Elyn’s POV
Take me back to my dream.
Take me back to Zorathys in that dream.
I mean, not the part where he slapped me and I realised he wasn’t even the Zorathys I knew.
That part could stay in the past.
Anyways, I’d do anything to go back there.
Or perhaps even go further back to when we kissed. When we were alone before the intruders arrived.
I would do anything to get that peace right now and not what I was currently facing.
Or rather, experiencing.
If I could even kneel to get that peace back, I would.
Actually, I’d crawl.
I’d probably beg too.
My dignity had already suffered enough this morning that there was no point pretending I still had any.
In case you’re lost, let me explain what’s going on.
A quick summary, mind you, because I’ve lost all energy to give a play-by-play of what happened.
So, the thing is, after Azerion woke up—annoyed, mind you—he asked Rin what she was trying to do.
And to my utter disbelief, which, again, mind you, shouldn’t even have been disbelief because this was Rin we were talking about, and she would take any chance to become catastrophic because, like I said, her name was Rin.
She was her…wait, that doesn’t make sense.
Anyway, where were we?
Ah, right.
The summary.
So Rin, like I said, to my utter disbelief, told Azerion that she was trying to kill him.
And she said it delightedly too.
Colour me surprised.
Because I thought she had only been trying to detach Azerion from me because that was what she claimed she had been doing.
I mean, the name of the demonic plier-looking weapon was the Weapon of Detachment or Destruction, if I recall correctly.
So who would have thought Rin was actually trying to kill Azerion?
Apparently, Rin.
Azerion, on the other hand, did not take that very well.
He went full-on Syrenthis mode.
Yes.
He transformed.
And Rin, not one to back down from a challenge—or apparently from a potentially fatal encounter—transformed too.
Now, you may ask, what could a raven do against a Syrenthis demon that was twice her size?
Yeah.
I wondered that too.
And I got my answer.
She could do nothing except escape all of Azerion’s attempts to ki—let’s say catch instead.
And let’s not forget Vaelory, who, for some reason, now involved herself in this circus of a Syrenthis pursuing a raven.
She tried to get them to stop.
Which only fueled the chaos even more.
And me?
I just wanted to leave.
That was all.
I wanted to leave the room, get dressed, fix my hair, have breakfast, and continue my day as though none of this had happened.
Was that too much to ask?
Apparently.
I tried to sneak away once, but surprisingly—
I wasn’t successful.
A toy hit me.
Yes.
A toy.
Of all the things that could have taken me down, I had been defeated by a toy.
I fell onto the floor, where I currently was, rethinking all my life decisions.
I think my head was a bit swollen.
But did I care?
No.
I just wanted a peaceful morning.
One where I got dressed and spent the rest of the day with Zorathys, who was also infuriating, mind you.
But was it too much for a girl to ask to just spend the day with her…lover?
I smiled faintly at the thought.
Then another loud hiss sounded somewhere above me.
My smile disappeared.
Right.
The circus.
I watched the three of them from my position on the floor.
Rin was flying about as Azerion tried to bite her or whatever he thought he was doing, which, honestly, I couldn’t explain because it seemed like he was fooling himself.
There was a lot of hissing.
A lot of flapping.
A lot of very sharp teeth.
And quite a few feathers.
Rin seemed to be enjoying herself far more than anyone had the right to.
Azerion, meanwhile, looked personally offended by the fact that a raven kept escaping him.
“Stop that!” Vaelory screamed, jumping after Rin. “You’ll hurt him!”
Rin cawed harshly at her.
And let me tell you, for some reason, I knew exactly what that caw meant.
‘He’s trying to hurt me too! Can’t you see that?’
Azerion hissed at Rin.
And yes.
I knew what that meant too.
‘You were the one who first tried to kill me. Why are you behaving like you did nothing?’
Rin cawed back even more harshly.
‘You were inconveniencing my lady. I had to get you away from her.’
Azerion hissed again.
‘I was sleeping and you tried to kill me!’
She cawed back.
‘You deserved it. You were unwilling to let her go, and she had things to do.’
Azerion’s tail whipped through the air.
He hissed.
‘You raven!’
She cawed back.
‘You snake.’
He hissed.
‘Come at me. I’ll show you exactly what a Syrenthis demon is capable of.’
She cawed back even louder.
‘You wannabe demon pest that only knows how to steal sweets. Come at me too. I’ll show you what I’m capable of.’
He hissed again.
‘At least I don’t take anything that’s shiny. You thief.’
Rin’s wings beat furiously as she darted around Azerion’s head.
Azerion snapped his jaws at her.
She dodged.
He struck again.
She dodged again.
Vaelory tried to grab one of them and nearly got herself caught in the middle.
She screamed.
Rin cawed.
Azerion hissed.
Something crashed.
I remained on the floor.
Honestly, at this point, I was beginning to feel like furniture.
I rubbed the side of my head.
Heh.
If being Demon Queen didn’t work out, I may as well just get a job as an interpreter.
I’d probably make a fortune.
I chuckled to myself.
And Azerion and Rin turned to me.
Oh.
Including Vaelory.
All three stared at me.
I blinked.
“What?” I asked them.
They continued staring.
I looked from one to the other.
“What?”
Nobody answered.
The raven tilted her head.
The giant snake narrowed his eyes.
I waved a hand lazily.
“Don’t mind me, please continue.”
Did they need more to do so?
No.
They continued.
And I remained lying on the floor.
