I Just Wanted A Soft Life, Not A Demon Husband
Chapter 360: The Weapon of Destruction and Detachment
Elyn’s POV
I take it back.
I was not excited to hear Rin’s voice, nor was I excited that she had come to save me from this demon child who was very much on his way to becoming upgraded—or perhaps downgraded—to a pest, if I’m being honest.
In case you are wondering what happened, we have to go back a few minutes.
And by a few minutes, I mean two fucking minutes.
That’s just how much life can change in a few minutes.
Two minutes ago, I had been lying there, trapped beneath a sleeping syrenthis demon who had apparently decided my body was his personal mattress and my ear was his breakfast.
Then Rin arrived.
And somehow, things got worse.
—
“Can I come in, my lady?” Rin had asked from outside the door.
“Yes,” I struggled to say.
She opened the door, which, can I just say, was quite shocking given that Rin always flew in through the window whenever she came to dress me every morning.
But then again, this wasn’t my bedroom, so perhaps she took that into consideration.
Immediately after entering, she paused.
Her brows furrowed.
Her gaze travelled over the room before finally settling on me.
Or, more accurately, on the position I was in.
Azerion was wrapped around me like some kind of oversized syrenthis-shaped blanket.
His arms were around my waist, one leg was thrown over mine, his face was buried against my shoulder, and his mouth still gobbling my ear.
I know that, given the way Rin’s eyes looked, it would have been hard to tell whether she was disgusted or annoyed.
At least, that would have been the case some months ago.
But after spending so much time with this raven demon, I had come to understand her a little.
Yes.
The expression in her eyes, though extremely subtle, was one of absolute disgust.
But it wasn’t directed at me.
No.
It was directed at the demon child who was still trying to eat me.
“My lady,” Rin began. “What is going on?”
I gave her a tired smile.
“He’s been clinging to me since this morning. I can’t seem to get rid of him either, no matter what I try.”
She nodded once.
Then she moved her gaze from me to Azerion.
Then back to me.
Then back to Azerion.
I wasn’t sure what kind of calculation was taking place inside her head, but I sincerely hoped it ended with me being freed.
“Do you need help, my lady?” she asked.
Of course I don’t.
I like staying right next to a demon who was eating me up like I was the last meal he would ever have for the day.
Which was actually quite close to the truth if this child did not let me go this instant.
“Do I look like I need help?” I asked her.
“Oh,” she said.
She blinked once.
“I should have known you didn’t need help.”
What the actual hellfire was happening right now?
“That was obviously sarcasm,” I told Rin. “Of course I need help. Get him off me.”
“I’m sorry for misunderstanding, my lady,” she replied. “No matter how many humans I’ve eaten, I still fail to understand them sometimes.”
“I do not care how many humans you’ve eaten. Get this demon off me, I beg you.”
Rin nodded.
“With pleasure, my lady.”
Then, to my surprise, she left the room.
I stared at the doorway.
I couldn’t have said something strange, right?
I did tell her to get Azerion off me.
So where was she going?
Was she going to call someone?
Was she going to bring another demon?
Was she going to—
The door opened again and my eyes widened.
No, she hadn’t called anyone.
She walked back into the room with…um, something.
I didn’t even know what that something was.
It was huge.
Absolutely fucking huge.
And Rin carried it like it weighed nothing.
I stared at it.
Then I stared at Rin.
Then I stared at it again.
It looked like pliers.
At least, that’s what they were called in my past life.
But while they resembled pliers, these definitely did not look like anything that humans in my past life used.
For starters, they were almost as tall as Rin.
Actually, no.
They were taller than Rin.
The two enormous jaws rose above her shoulder and nearly reached the ceiling. Their metal-like surface was dark and uneven, almost resembling blackened iron, except strange red lines pulsed beneath the surface like veins.
The jaws were curved inward, each side lined with jagged teeth.
Yes.
Teeth.
Because apparently, normal pliers weren’t terrifying enough.
The tips of the jaws opened and closed slightly as though the weapon itself were breathing.
And then I noticed the eyes.
There were two of them.
Small, glowing eyes sat near the hinge of the weapon, blinking slowly as they stared directly at me.
I stared back.
The handles were even stranger.
Instead of ordinary grips, they curved around Rin’s arms like long black claws, wrapping themselves around her hands and forearms.
They almost looked alive.
Actually, judging by the way the weapon twitched when Rin adjusted her grip, I was beginning to suspect that it was alive.
Perhaps the handles were designed that way for better grip.
Perhaps they had another purpose.
I had no idea.
I wasn’t even sure what was going on anymore.
All I knew was that Rin was standing in front of me, holding what looked like a gigantic demonic pair of pliers that had somehow evolved into a weapon of mass destruction.
And that brought us to where we were right now.
“Rin?” I called out nervously.
“Yes, my lady?”
“What is that you are holding?”
She looked at the instrument, then back at me.
A smile appeared on her face.
Which, everyone knew, just made her look even scarier.
“This is just a weapon of destruction or detachment, depending on its use,” she replied airily, like it was nothing so absurd.
