Chapter 106: Chapter 106: A Little More Fun

The fight became faster.

Damon moved through the tide instead of standing in one place.

Every movement had a purpose.

He didn’t waste his Aether on attacks that didn’t need it.

A smaller B rank beast rushed from his blind spot.

Damon sensed it through his connection with Freya.

He turned without looking.

The spearhead flashed.

"Lightning Edge."

Slash!

The beast’s head flew.

Damon spun with the momentum.

The spear swept around him.

"Storm Sweep."

A wave of silver lightning spread from the spear.

Several beasts were caught in it.

Their bodies froze for a moment.

That was enough.

Damon stepped forward.

"Break."

BOOM!

The lightning detonated.

Several beasts were thrown across the battlefield.

Some hit the ground and didn’t move again.

Others struggled to stand.

Damon was already moving toward them.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Every time he reached a wounded beast, he used the spear to finish the job.

There was no hesitation.

No panic.

No desperate struggle.

Damon wasn’t fighting because he was trying to survive.

He was fighting because he had decided this tide wasn’t getting past him.

That difference became more obvious with every passing minute.

He wanted to kill every single beast here.

If even one slipped past him and returned toward the mansion, all the work everyone else was doing could be put at risk.

So Damon kept pushing.

"Stay here."

He struck another beast through the chest.

"None of you are getting past me."

At the Winterbourne mansion, the situation was changing too.

Sylphie was making a huge difference.

The Wind Sovereign Roc flew above the battlefield.

Her enormous wings spread.

Then she dove.

"Tempest Blade."

WHOOOM!

Wind gathered around her wings.

The moment she passed over the battlefield, countless blades of compressed wind swept through the beasts below.

D rank beasts were cut apart instantly.

The C rank beasts weren’t killed as easily, but they were still forced back.

Before they could recover, Sylphie turned in the air.

Her wings flapped once.

"Wind Burst."

BOOM!

A violent blast of wind slammed into the advancing tide.

The beasts stumbled.

The elemental users below immediately took advantage.

"Attack!"

"Now!"

"Don’t let them recover!"

Ice techniques flew into the opening.

Several C rank beasts fell.

The elemental users stared at Sylphie as she continued flying.

"She’s too fast..."

"That Wind Spirit is ridiculous."

"She cleared that entire group by herself."

Even Cornelius looked toward the sky.

He watched Sylphie dive again.

Another group of beasts disappeared beneath her wind arts.

His expression softened slightly.

Once again, he was reminded how fortunate they were.

Damon had only been with them for a short time.

Yet one of his Spirit Elementals was already affecting the entire battlefield.

And this was only one spirit.

Cornelius looked toward the direction Damon had gone.

"Caelia made the right decision."

If Damon had remained at the mansion, he could have helped.

But sending Sylphie here while he dealt with the B rank beasts had been even more effective.

The mansion had lost one powerful fighter.

But the pressure on the battlefield had barely increased.

If anything, Sylphie had made up for it.

Then another wave of C rank beasts appeared.

Sylphie saw them.

Her eyes immediately brightened.

She dove.

The elemental users below watched in confusion.

"Again?"

"She’s not tired?"

Sylphie’s wings spread.

Wind gathered around her.

She looked toward the direction Damon had gone.

Her expression almost seemed pouty.

They were fighting without her.

And they seemed to be having fun.

She wanted to go too.

So she became faster.

Much faster.

"She’s getting faster!"

"How is that possible?"

Sylphie didn’t care.

She only wanted to finish this side quickly.

Then she could join Damon.

Damon suddenly laughed.

He had felt everything through their bond.

"Sylphie."

A flood of emotion came through their bond.

Damon shook his head.

"Don’t get too competitive."

Another flood.

He laughed again.

"You’re really jealous?"

A stronger flood answered him.

Damon grinned.

"Fine. Go ahead."

He raised Freya.

"Let’s see who clears their side first."

Freya crackled with silver lightning.

Damon’s grin widened.

"You’re on my side, remember?"

The spear shook.

"I know."

Another crackle.

"No, I’m not letting her win either."

He stepped forward.

A huge B rank Ice Bear came charging.

Damon’s expression became serious again.

"Come."

The beast swung its massive arm.

Damon blocked.

BOOM!

The ground beneath his feet cracked.

The force pushed him back.

But Damon didn’t lose his balance.

He twisted the spear around.

"Lightning Spiral."

Silver lightning wrapped around the spear.

Damon thrust forward.

The spear drilled through the beast’s defense and pierced its chest.

The lightning exploded from inside.

BOOM!

The Ice Bear collapsed.

Damon pulled the spear free.

Another beast attacked from behind.

He ducked.

Its claws passed over his head.

Damon turned and drove the spear into its side.

"Storm Fang."

Lightning tore through the beast.

It fell.

Then another appeared.

Damon’s eyes lit up.

"Again?"

The beast roared.

Damon laughed.

"Good."

He charged.

The battle continued like that.

One beast after another.

Damon’s Aether was being consumed quickly, but he had prepared for this.

His movements had become more efficient.

He wasn’t throwing his strongest attacks at everything.

D rank beasts were ignored whenever possible.

C rank beasts received simple attacks.

B rank beasts received enough force to kill them quickly.

And when several beasts gathered together, that was when Damon used his larger arts.

A group of B rank beasts rushed him together.

Damon stopped.

Freya pointed toward them.

"Let’s try that one again."

Silver lightning began gathering around him.

The beasts came closer.

Closer.

Damon waited.

Then he thrust the spear into the ground.

"Thunderfield."

CRACK!

Lightning exploded across the ground.

The entire area became covered in silver currents.

The beasts were caught immediately.

Their movements slowed.

Some tried to leap away.

Damon raised his spear.

"Stay."

The lightning surged.

BOOM!

The beasts were blasted into the air.

Damon didn’t wait for them to fall.

He jumped.

The spear gathered even more silver lightning in his hands.

"Piercing Storm!"
