I Can Devour Spirits
Chapter 676 - 420: Ghostly Glow
Fan Hongjiao and the others were staring at Duan Rong in a daze, not speaking for a long time.
Duan Rong suddenly felt a bit awkward.
Was it just because he was a little late? Did they have to look at him so coldly?
He admitted that when he first jumped down, he took some time to adapt, but after that, he had been descending with full force. In fact, towards the end, he descended with his breath held, landing directly. In his view, he had already used all his strength.
Duan Rong wanted to say something to ease the awkward atmosphere. He was about to speak when Fan Hongjiao put an arm around his shoulders and laughed, "Little junior brother, you’re the real man!"
Fan Hongjiao’s red lips and white teeth were almost right next to Duan Rong’s ear, and whether intentionally or unintentionally, a rather ample part of her was pressing tightly against the other side of Duan Rong’s shoulder.
Duan Rong’s face couldn’t help but turn slightly red.
Fan Hongjiao smiled at Wang Yue and said, "Wang Yue, you’re the most effeminate one!"
Duan Rong glanced down at the part where Fan Hongjiao was pressed tightly against his shoulder and thought: Shouldn’t you be the most effeminate one?
Upon hearing this, Wang Yue shouted frantically, "Senior sister, I just became a senior brother today. Don’t damage my grand image in front of the little junior brother."
"Your grand image?" Fan Hongjiao said, "Wang Yue, I think you should be the little junior brother from now on! Short stature and a timid heart. Look how vigorous and spirited junior brother Duan is, standing next to you, who looks more like a junior brother?"
While speaking, Fan Hongjiao shoved Duan Rong, aligning him with Wang Yue. Wang Yue was already short in stature, and compared with Duan Rong, he looked even more like a squashed gourd.
Duan Rong said, "Senior sister, don’t joke around. There is a proper order based on seniority, Wang Yue senior brother entered the sect first, so he is the senior brother."
Wang Yue laughed and said, "Well said, little junior brother! Proper order based on seniority! Courteous! Courteous!"
Wu Shidao said, "Senior sister, since everyone is here, shall we enter the Dark Forest now?"
Among these people, Wu Shidao was the least fond of joking and had a deep and contemplative mind, so the others were somewhat distant with him.
Fan Hongjiao said, "Alright, let’s go!"
Only then did the group leave the cliffside and head in a certain direction.
It was only at this point that Duan Rong started to observe the surroundings. He noticed that around the cliffside stretched a large Glowing Grassland.
He quickly discovered that the faint glow came from the grass blades underfoot.
Duan Rong was curious and, while walking, bent down to pull up a plant from the ground.
He examined the grass blade in his hand, which emitted a faint phosphorescence.
Seeing Duan Rong’s interest in the grass, Wang Yue smiled and explained, "Little junior brother, this is called Clear Light Grass! Near every cliff point, there is a grassland like this. The faint glow emitted by the Clear Light Grass can blind the eyes of Primordial Beasts. However, once this grass is removed from the ground, it will soon wither and die."
Sure enough, as Wang Yue finished speaking, the blade of grass in Duan Rong’s hand lost its glow and withered into death.
The grassland filled with Clear Light Grass was about the size of half a football field, and the outer perimeter of this Glowing Grassland was enveloped in thick darkness.
Duan Rong looked towards the darkness, knowing that there lay the true Dark Forest.
Before long, the group reached the edge of the Glowing Grassland, where a dense thicket stood.
As they reached the edge, Duan Rong suddenly sensed several bursts of Divine Sense projecting around him, then Fan Hongjiao led the way through the dense thicket ahead.
Duan Rong followed their figures through.
Once through the dense thicket, Duan Rong felt an abrupt darkness before him.
In the pitch-black environment, he could only vaguely make out the blurred figures moving around him.
In such an environment, he also wanted to project his Divine Sense to cover the area, but he knew that if he did, it would surely alarm those around him, as aside from Wang Yue, everyone had already projected their Divine Sense.
Since they were very close, Duan Rong could clearly sense the strength of those three Divine Senses.
Three Divine Senses of varying strengths were crisscrossing, coming from Fan Hongjiao, Wu Shidao, and Lu Geng respectively.
Lu Geng’s Divine Sense was the weakest, and Duan Rong felt it should only recently have achieved the Second Layer of the Fetal Concealment Scripture.
The strongest Divine Sense came from Fan Hongjiao, who was leading at the front of the group, Duan Rong estimated it to be around the Fifth Layer of the Fetal Concealment Scripture.
Lu Geng had been on Yunfu Peak for seven years, and as for Fan Hongjiao, he wasn’t entirely sure, but it must have been more than ten years, right? Yet the Fetal Concealment Scripture had only achieved the Fifth Layer. If he were to wait for the sect to teach him beyond the Twelfth Layer of the Fetal Concealment Scripture, who knows how many years it would be?
After walking for a while, Duan Rong had adapted to the darkness here.
He discovered that the Dark Forest did indeed have some light, albeit faint. It was just that stepping in from a glowing area made it feel pitch black.
The group moved forward in a single file. Fan Hongjiao was at the front, Wu Shidao brought up the rear, and Duan Rong was in the middle.
Only now did Duan Rong finally see the weapons of his senior brothers.
Wu Shidao held an Iron Ruler, which emitted a faint glow even in the darkness. Walking in front of Duan Rong was Wang Yue, who wielded a set of Butterfly Double Sabers. Lu Geng held a Gourd Hammer. And at the very front, Fan Hongjiao carried a coiled Python Whip in her hand.
