I Can Devour Spirits
Chapter 677 - 420: Ghostly Glow (Part 2)
As the few people walked, they suddenly saw a very strange tree not far ahead.
The trunk of the tree was dark and twisted, but its drooping branches were fine, soft, and emitted a faint silver glow. The tree was covered in silver-white branches that hung down like a galaxy in the dark, standing quietly in this endless Dark Forest, breathtakingly beautiful.
Duan Rong felt a chill all over the moment he saw that tree.
Fan Hongjiao, walking at the forefront, suddenly said, "Little Junior Brother, did you see that tree? Never approach that kind of tree! In the Dark Forest, many plants are far more dangerous than Primordial Beasts. And the more beautiful the plant, the more dangerous it usually is!"
Duan Rong raised his eyes to look at the back of Fan Hongjiao at the front, muttering and repeating Fan Hongjiao’s words, "Many plants, far more dangerous than Primordial Beasts..."
At this moment, three dark shadows suddenly flashed from the pitch-black bushes beside them, rushing at them.
The shadows were slender. Duan Rong hadn’t projected his Divine Sense, only scanned with his eyes, mistaking them for three Flying Sabers.
As soon as Duan Rong saw them, Wu Shidao at the back of the team had already rushed over, waving his Iron Ruler and knocking two of the shadows to the ground at Duan Rong’s feet. The last shadow abruptly changed direction, shooting diagonally to the side.
Seeing the last shadow suddenly change direction in an eerie manner, Duan Rong was startled! He knew that thing was definitely not a Flying Saber, as no Flying Saber could suddenly change direction mid-air, and its speed seemed not only no weaker, but even faster.
The shadow changed direction, shooting towards that strange tree with drooping silver-glow branches not far away. In the silver glow, Duan Rong finally saw clearly what the three shadows shooting from the bushes were.
It turned out to be a red-scaled snake with two pairs of wings, flashing its wings rapidly.
But the wing-flashing red-scaled snake, stunned by Wu Shidao’s Iron Ruler, abruptly changed direction, flying towards this side. At this moment, it was close to the strange tree with drooping silver-glow branches. The red-scaled snake seemed to know the tree was dangerous, trying to turn away, but suddenly a branch from the tree, like a long whip, lashed out, its whip shadow flashing, wrapping around the red-scaled snake.
Once wrapped, it was pulled into the dense branches where they writhed around the red-scaled snake like maggots. In just a moment, the branches unwrapped, and the red-scaled snake had disappeared without a trace, as if it never existed.
Fan Hongjiao and the others seemed accustomed to this kind of scene, but Duan Rong felt chills. In just the blink of an eye, the red snake was completely gone.
At this time, Wang Yue squatted by Duan Rong’s feet, picked up the two red-scaled snakes, and said with a smile, "This thing is a good stuff!"
"Little Junior Brother, we each get one of these two red snakes. I’m quite generous, aren’t I?"
Duan Rong replied, "Thank you, Senior Brother!"
Wang Yue seemed very happy, putting the two red snakes into the pocket he carried.
As they walked further, Duan Rong’s foot suddenly shone, startling him to jump aside immediately.
Holding his Frost Patterned Phosphor Crystal Saber, Duan Rong was surprised to see the spot he stepped on light up with a creamy white glow, flickering like tiny mushrooms.
Lu Geng patted Duan Rong’s shoulder, saying, "Don’t be nervous, Little Junior Brother, that’s just Ghost Moon Mushrooms, they won’t harm you!"
Hearing Lu Geng’s reassurance, Duan Rong breathed a sigh of relief.
Because Fan Hongjiao said earlier that the more beautiful the plant, the more dangerous it usually was, the mesmerizing glow of the Ghost Moon Mushrooms raised Duan Rong’s vigilance, fearing some strange mutation.
Fan Hongjiao glanced at Duan Rong, saying, "Little Junior Brother, your reaction is correct. Caution makes for a ship that sails a thousand years. This Dark Forest is fraught with danger at every step, without experience or Divine Sense to guide you, you must be careful."
Duan Rong nodded, saying, "Thank you, Senior Sister, for the guidance!"
Fan Hongjiao acknowledged with a hum, continuing to lead the team forward. After a few steps, Fan Hongjiao also stepped on a patch of Ghost Moon Mushrooms, the faint creamy glow enveloping her feet like a gentle moon shadow.
Fan Hongjiao frowned slightly, asking, "Since when did so many Ghost Moon Mushrooms grow on this path? Wu Shidao, check the Geomancy Map, have we taken the wrong route?"
Upon hearing this, Wu Shidao stuck his Iron Ruler into the ground at his feet with a thud, then took out the Beast Hide Map from the Brocade Bag at his waist.
Opening the map in his hand, then fixed his gaze on it.
Curious, Duan Rong also turned his head to look, seeing that even the Beast Hide Map was emitting a faint glow, making Wu Shidao’s face appear ghostly, like a Hell demon.
The Beast Hide Map clearly used some glow-emitting paint for its creation. It seemed that Wu Shidao had anticipated the need to inspect the map at any time in the Dark Forest when he made it. His foresight was remarkable.
After observing for a while, Wu Shidao raised his head, saying, "It’s the right path, no mistake. These Ghost Moon Mushrooms must have newly grown."
"Really?"
Fan Hongjiao muttered, then said no more, proceeding forward.
The group continued forward, encountering some unexpected attacks from small Primordial Beasts along the way, which Fan Hongjiao and Wu Shidao easily dispatched. All of these small Primordial Beasts were eagerly collected by Wang Yue.
