I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 171: Does Falling in Love First Make You Cheap?
Chapter 171: Chapter 171: Does Falling in Love First Make You Cheap?
So close.
He could have held the moon in his arms.
"Ryan Sterling, maybe in your world, everything is a calculation. Everything needs a process, just like a business project. You start, perform due diligence, secure your own interests, and then push forward, step by step. But love isn’t like that."
In Evelyn Grant’s eyes, love required sincerity.
Without sincerity, it was all useless.
How could you talk about building a skyscraper without a foundation? It was all just a mirage.
"Evelyn Grant, when it came to my brother, he did so many things wrong, yet you forgave him without any principles or limits. But me? I made just one mistake, and you’re this determined to leave! Why?" Ryan Sterling’s thick brows furrowed. "Is it just because I fell in love first?"
’Does falling first make my love cheap?’
"Whether I stay or go is my right."
"But you shouldn’t have gotten rid of the baby!" Ryan Sterling finally blurted out.
He clenched his jaw, the pain in his heart crashing over him like waves in a storm, one after another, refusing to let him go.
It hurt so much.
When Ryan Sterling found out the baby was gone, the pain was truly unbearable.
That was the child he had been dreaming of. He had been working himself to death overseas, cutting his hours short, just thinking about rushing back to the country, back to Evelyn Grant and their child’s side, but he never knew...
...that there would be nothing left.
No one was waiting for him. All that greeted him was devastating news.
Regarding the child, Evelyn Grant’s lips moved as if she had something to say.
But in the end, she said nothing.
She pressed her lips together and lowered her gaze. "Tomorrow, let’s go to the Civil Affairs Bureau and end all of this."
End this whole absurd affair.
Ryan Sterling looked at her, his thin lips twitching.
’He thought she would at least offer an explanation. Even if she had just said she didn’t want a child right now—anything at all would have been fine. He wouldn’t have blamed her. He would have been okay with anything.’
But Evelyn Grant said nothing.
A single tear escaped from the corner of Ryan Sterling’s closed eye, landing on his clothes.
He gave a self-deprecating laugh.
"Fine."
...
"Mr. Sterling, your brother... has left the hotel where Ms. Grant is staying."
After listening, Julian Sterling raised a thick eyebrow. "Alone?"
The secretary nodded. "Yes. Ms. Grant wasn’t with him."
’She wasn’t.’
’Good.’
The smile on Julian Sterling’s lips widened.
The movement pulled at the wound where he’d been hit, but Julian Sterling showed no sign of annoyance.
Only a more satisfied smile.
"Have someone keep an eye on things over there, and also track my brother’s movements. If all goes as expected... they should be splitting up for good very soon."
Julian Sterling may not have taken the time to understand Evelyn Grant, but this was his younger brother, someone he had watched grow up. He understood him.
Ryan was obsessive, yes, but once he gave up on something, he gave up completely, from the heart.
When Julian himself had married Evelyn Grant, Ryan had given up once, fleeing abroad and never returning.
So, this must be the second time.
Julian Sterling scoffed and breathed a sigh of relief. He lowered his head, eyes downcast, and lit a cigarette. "Once he’s gone, Evelyn Grant will be mine without a doubt."
’An act? A script? He could do that too! This whole mess had only happened because he’d never put any real thought into Evelyn Grant, never even considered maintaining their relationship. As long as he was willing... Evelyn Grant was, after all, just a woman.’
