Chapter 436: SVOP: Chapter 436

"Phantom, scan!"

"Scanning in progress... Scan complete. Detected mysterious energy: 280 units!"

Fantasy Gene said, "Every bit of it is genuine."

"Excellent. Those two haven’t let me down after all."

Vladimir nodded in satisfaction, thinking over how to reward them.

When subordinates do well, rewards are only proper — otherwise, they won’t put in their best effort next time.

But he set that thought aside for now. His first priority was to strengthen the Time-Space Fish.

"Phantom, how many Devil Fruits does it take to raise the Time-Space Fish to 5 stars?"

"One moment."

Fantasy Gene fell silent for a short while before answering: "From 1★ to 2★: roughly 8 to 12 fruits. Then 2★ to 3★: 20 to 24. 3★ to 4★..."

"Hold on!" Vladimir’s face darkened. "This fish has no combat power at all. Even if its transformation ability is rare, the cost is still absurdly high."

"Not really," Fantasy Gene replied. "When it first absorbed the Adam Tree Eve, it was only 1★ — and that energy was equivalent to 40 or 50 fruits. Compared to that, the cost of upgrading is actually quite modest."

"At this rate, we’d need over a hundred to max it out?" Vladimir grumbled inwardly.

"That’s only because you’ve been using Devil Fruits all along. The same type of energy becomes less effective each time."

"Never mind. Let me think."

He pondered briefly, then nodded. "I’ll raise it to 3★ first. Let’s see what abilities unlock..."

With that, he set the Time-Space Fish down from his shoulder and guided it to absorb 22 fruits.

Massive streams of mysterious energy flooded into its body, triggering rapid changes.

First, it grew in size — from no bigger than two palms to over a meter long. Its scales also became far more vivid and brilliant.

At the same time, the data in his mind updated:

Thirteenth Transformation: Time-Space Fish

Star Rating: ★★★☆☆

- Ability 1: River of Time

- Ability 2: Space Warp

- Ability 3: Time-Space Wanderer

...

"Time-Space Wanderer!"

Vladimir’s eyes lit up. He sensed it carefully for a moment, then smiled. "Just as I thought — 3★ is enough. It can already travel through time and space!"

Ability 2 was straightforward: crossing vast distances, much like the Shadow Spirit’s Space Jump.

But there was a difference — the Shadow Spirit had to lock onto a target first, while the Time-Space Fish could warp freely.

Of course, limits remained. It could leap straight from the East Blue to the South Blue, but it couldn’t appear instantly right behind a specific person there.

As for Ability 3 — that was the power to travel between worlds. It could enter the chaotic currents between dimensions.

This ability also ensured that no physical or elemental attack could ever strike its true form.

"Still... there’s a catch." Vladimir stared at the now much larger fish, quiet for a moment. "True, it can travel between worlds, but once it enters the chaos, where it ends up is mostly luck."

He made up his mind at once. "No. I’m taking it all the way to 5★. I need precise control over where we go."

3★ → 4★: cost 33 fruits.

4★ → 5★: cost 55 fruits.

Vladimir felt a pang of regret. With 280 fruits total, nearly half would be gone just to max out this one creature.

And even then — he had no guarantee that 5★ would unlock precise navigation.

If he didn’t mind the trouble, it was already usable as-is. Worst case, send it into the dimensional chaos and let it search slowly; it would eventually find the New World.

"I advise against upgrading further," Fantasy Gene spoke up. "Spending 80 or 90 fruits on it is nothing but a gamble. Unless you have other types of mysterious energy to use instead."

"You have a point."

Vladimir nodded, and let go of the idea of rushing to 5★.

"We’ll test it first. If it’s not enough, then we’ll upgrade. Go — find the New World!"

With a thought, he commanded the fish to activate Time-Space Wanderer.

Space rippled, and the Time-Space Fish dove straight into the swirling chaos between dimensions, off to seek the New World.

"Go — find the New World!"

As the fish vanished into the chaos, Vladimir kept a small portion of his awareness fixed on it.

Finding a whole new world wasn’t something done in a day or two. He wasn’t in a hurry. Besides — even once found, he planned to make the One Piece world his solid base of operations.

This world was rich in mysterious energy; he needed loyal subordinates dedicated entirely to gathering it.

Of course, the World Government was a huge nuisance. Sooner or later, he’d wipe them out and let Illusion establish a new global order.

But ruling the world wasn’t the goal — it was only a means to collect energy more easily.

"No rush to take down the Government. Let things progress naturally. Let the Revolutionary Army charge and fight the battles first."

Once the fish was gone, Vladimir ordered the Shadow Spirit to store every remaining Devil Fruit into the Shadow Realm.

"Now... let’s catch up on what’s happened these past nine years."

Time flew by. Seven days passed.

Over those days, through Doflamingo, Vladimir learned exactly how much the world had changed in nine years.
