I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate
Chapter 599 - 351: Creation Myth
Crappy inheritances: They set up countless hurdles, constantly screening candidates to ensure the person who receives it is a genius among geniuses, an elite among elites.
Simply put, they’re afraid the recipient will tarnish the legacy, unable to carry it forward and make it thrive.
Badass inheritances: They just make sure the inheritor is one of their own—gotta keep the good stuff in the family. The rest doesn’t matter.
Even a total nobody, as long as they receive this inheritance, will instantly soar. That’s how confident it is!
Su Ze had to admit, the butterfly before him probably had the right to be that confident. But if he hadn’t personally gone through the process of collecting the four puzzle pieces, he might have actually bought it.
After all, he too had to endure countless screenings and pass all sorts of trials just to be standing here, ready to receive the inheritance.
First of all, the prerequisite for even entering this place was passing the trial for the outer inheritance.
Anyone who could pass that trial was guaranteed to have extraordinary talent and potential.
Second, collecting all four puzzle pieces was no easy feat. They came from four different regions of Blue Star, separated by vast distances. Moreover, anyone who could obtain a puzzle piece and hold onto it for any length of time was a formidable figure.
One piece, in particular, had been split into three parts, each controlled by one of three major families.
It wasn’t that different from cultivating a Gu.
The final victor had to defeat the other puzzle-piece holders and either gain the three major families’ approval or overpower them completely to finally collect all four pieces.
Needless to say, anyone who could accomplish all that was bound to be an exceptional individual, lacking in neither strength, talent, nor luck.
Despite his internal complaints, Su Ze remained perfectly respectful on the surface. "Mrs. Die," he asked, "have you been guarding this place alone for a thousand years?"
Su Ze was also asking to probe the butterfly’s current condition.
He suspected the butterfly ought to be dead. After all, he’d heard that Lin Hua’s Legend had once discovered the butterfly’s mangled corpse, and he himself had even collected one of its eyeballs.
Furthermore, he was also trying to find out if that mysterious human expert was dead or alive.
The butterfly froze for a moment, then spoke. "Has a thousand years already passed? No, wait... someone has come for the inheritance after only a thousand years?"
It paused, then asked, "How many years has it been since your Blue Star awakened its evolutionary power?"
Su Ze answered, "This is the one thousand and second year."
"One thousand and two years? My pooper-scooper... has been dead for that long...?" The butterfly’s voice suddenly grew melancholic.
Not knowing how long it would remain melancholic, Su Ze quickly interjected, "Mrs. Die, is this your true body, or...?"
"I am merely a lingering remnant of a dream, one that has yet to fade. I have been waiting here for a suitable inheritor. My true body died long ago. The last vestiges of my power were used to construct this Inheritance Space and to awaken the evolutionary power of your Blue Star."
Su Ze gleaned a great deal of information from the butterfly’s words.
’First, the "pooper-scooper" she mentioned must be that mysterious human expert—the butterfly’s master.’
’Now he could be certain: both the butterfly and her master were dead.’
’Furthermore, the "rain of evolution" from a thousand years ago was, as expected, the butterfly’s handiwork.’
’Over 1002 years ago, a mysterious expert from the Human Race and a dying butterfly-beast arrived on Blue Star. They initiated the planet’s Era of Evolution and left behind this mysterious inheritance.’
Su Ze had many questions. Who were the mysterious expert and the butterfly? What was their purpose? Who was hunting them? And were there other members of the Human Race out there in the universe?
But he asked the question that concerned him most at the moment. "Mrs. Die, what exactly is in this inheritance?"
Snapped out of its melancholy by Su Ze’s interruption, the butterfly fluttered back and forth in front of him. With a playful tone, it said, "Take a guess."
’You want me to guess?’
’Of course I’ll... guess!’
Su Ze took a deep breath. ’Even though the butterfly is already dead, I can’t afford to offend this remnant. The inheritance isn’t in my hands yet, after all.’
"Tier-7 extracts? Tier-7 wondrous items?" Su Ze guessed.
"Think bigger!"
"Could it be Tier-8 or Tier-9 extracts and wondrous items? All sorts of god-level materials?"
"Be bolder!"
"This... It couldn’t be a treasure that transcends god-level, could it? Or maybe something that puts me on a direct path to the Sun God realm, letting me jump three life levels at once?"
Su Ze was reminded of the wuxia novels he’d read in his previous life, where the protagonist would have a fortuitous encounter and instantly have decades of power transferred into them, becoming a top-tier master of the martial world overnight.
’Was he about to stumble into that kind of good fortune himself?’
At this point, Su Ze wasn’t so much guessing the contents of the inheritance as he was making a wish.
But even then, the butterfly just shook its head. "You’re not thinking big enough, kid."
’Not big enough?’
Su Ze felt his heart pounding in his chest. In his grand old age of two in this life, he’d never been this excited.
He felt he’d stumbled upon the opportunity of a lifetime. He didn’t even dare to imagine how much of a badass he would become after receiving this inheritance!
"Forget it, I’ll just tell you," the butterfly said, sounding bored. "We left you a planet!"
’Oh my god, a planet... Wait, a planet?’
’That’s it?’
Su Ze was dumbfounded.
’What the hell was he supposed to do with a planet?!’
’Become a "planet lord"?’
’So when you said "think bigger," you just meant physically bigger!’
’Did I misunderstand something?’
’Could it be a "treasure planet," rich in resources and covered in god-level materials?’
’If that were the case, he could accept it.’
’Or maybe a planet that could shrink, one he could carry around? He could farm on it, or maybe use it to smash people?’
’That would be passable, too.’
Having studied under King Mu for a long time, Su Ze already had some understanding of the universe.
Planets were a dime a dozen in the universe; a typical barren world was completely worthless.
