Chapter 2540: Story 2541: The Return of the First Light

The smile upon the ancient guardian’s face lasted only a heartbeat.

Yet that single moment sent waves of silver light across the broken world.

The light spread from the guardian’s chest, flowing through shattered mountains, ruined forests, and forgotten valleys. Wherever it touched, the black mist surrounding Blackstone Ridge retreated like a tide before the dawn.

The five distant Fallen Guardians halted their march.

Their colossal forms stood motionless beneath the storm-filled sky.

One by one, they lifted their heads.

The silver glow within their ancient eyes brightened.

They remembered.

Victoria Kane lowered the Dawnblade, watching the miracle unfold.

"It worked..."

Arkanis’s voice echoed with quiet wonder.

"No..."

"...it has only begun."

The kneeling guardian slowly rose to his full height.

Stone crumbled from his shoulders as centuries of corruption peeled away in glowing fragments.

The broken shield fastened to his arm transformed.

Dark cracks vanished beneath streams of radiant silver.

The forgotten emblem of the First Light shone once again.

Every defender stared upward in silent amazement.

Commander Selene Voss slowly removed her helmet.

"I never thought I’d see history rewritten."

Cole Mercer lowered his rifle with a grin.

"I’ll admit it."

"I definitely wasn’t expecting to make friends with a mountain."

A few weary soldiers laughed.

For the first time in countless battles, hope felt stronger than fear.

The restored guardian turned toward Victoria.

His voice resonated gently within every heart.

"I am Seraphel..."

"...Keeper of the Eastern Dawn."

He bowed deeply.

"Last Marshal..."

"...you have freed my soul."

Victoria shook her head.

"I didn’t free you."

"You chose the light."

Seraphel placed one enormous hand over his chest.

"Then let my strength serve the Light once more."

Golden energy flowed from the Crown of the Black Star.

It met the silver radiance within Seraphel.

The two lights intertwined without conflict.

The sky above Blackstone Ridge brightened as the storm clouds split apart.

Far across the horizon, however, the remaining five Fallen Guardians began moving again.

This time, they did not march toward the Devourer.

They walked toward Victoria.

The Hollow King’s expression darkened.

"No..."

"They’re breaking free."

His chains rattled violently as crimson flames erupted around his enormous body.

"I will not lose everything!"

With a deafening roar, he tore against the ancient seals.

One massive golden chain snapped apart.

The mountain trembled.

The Eternal Flame flickered deep below.

The Last Sentinel gripped his war hammer.

"The prison weakens again."

Before anyone could react, the ground beneath the Devourer cracked open.

The Endless Darkness stirred beneath its colossal prison.

Unlike the Devourer’s silent hunger...

This presence radiated pure malice.

A whisper drifted across the battlefield.

It came from nowhere.

And everywhere.

"Light..."

"Hope..."

"Love..."

"All things fade."

The words entered every mind like poison.

Several soldiers collapsed, clutching their heads.

Even the restored Seraphel staggered.

"No..."

"He is speaking."

Dr. Evelyn Brooks hurriedly opened Elias Crow’s journal.

New golden letters appeared across every page.

Her face turned pale as she read.

"Beware the Voice Beyond Creation. It needs no body. It needs only belief. Every soul that accepts despair becomes its doorway."

Father Gabriel looked toward Victoria.

"So the true enemy was never the monsters..."

Victoria slowly nodded.

"It was the despair behind them."

The Crown upon her head flared brilliantly.

The Dawnblade answered with a radiant chorus of white fire.

High within the First Prison, Arkanis finally opened both ancient eyes.

For the first time since the beginning of the war, his voice thundered across the heavens.

"Guardians of the First Light!"

"The Endless Darkness has awakened!"

Across the world, the remaining five Fallen Guardians stopped once more.

Then, as one, they turned away from the Devourer.

Toward Blackstone Ridge.

Toward the Last Marshal.

Toward the final hope of creation.

The last alliance was beginning.
