Hogwarts: Bloodline Legend
Chapter 1266: Mysterious Danger (2)
“Remember, traveler, respect the rules of this land, and beware of the whispers in the shadows. Your choices might bring a different dawn or a deeper dusk.”
The words fell, and the whole dream began to shake violently.
The entire grassland dream began to shake violently, like a reflection in water shattered by stones. Starlight dimmed, the herds disappeared, and the vast land crumbled before Ian’s eyes.
The scene of the grassland shattered and dissipated like a reflection on the water’s surface. Ian sat up abruptly from the bed, heart pounding, with a thin layer of cold sweat seeping on his forehead. Outside the window, the sky was slightly bright, and a few strands of morning light penetrated through the thatched house’s window gaps, casting mottled light spots on the muddy ground.
The lingering echo of the dream was still clear, with the ominous words of the cheetah repeatedly echoing in his mind. “An unpleasant gaze”? “Whispers in the shadows”?
Could there be an unknown threat lurking on this African continent? And this threat seems related to the Divine Spirit? Perhaps it’s yet another prelude to the twilight of the Gods.
“Could it be a coincidence?”
Ian was somewhat confused. Whether normal or abnormal, Female Titan Claire’s Time Machine seemed to be leading him to a twilight era of some Divine System.
If there is nothing behind this, Ian wouldn’t believe it for a million. The Wizarding World has no coincidences, let alone arrangement orchestrated by Titans.
She, the Female Titan, is the origin of all things, and also the earliest Prophet to emerge on Earth, the source of seers. It’s only reasonable to say she can manipulate all this.
“But, what is the purpose?”
Ian remained puzzled. He took a deep breath, suppressed the chaotic thoughts in his heart, and got up to walk to the window, pushing open the ramshackle wooden window.
Crisp morning air rushed in, carrying the fragrance of soil and grass.
His gaze instinctively fell on the vast forest scene, faintly visible in the morning mist, like a projection. In that instant, he seemed to glimpse—at the edge of the densest shadows in the forest, a blurred, slender figure, seemingly composed of darkness itself, flashed by.
The figure moved so fast it almost seemed like an illusion, and it even turned to “look” at him with a cold, non-human gaze of scrutiny.
Then, the figure completely melded into the shadow and vanished.
“Was it the god from earlier, or the so-called shadow?” Ian’s pupils shrank slightly, concentrating his mental perception sharply, but there was nothing there except the normal forest vibes.
Was it an illusion caused by the dream’s impact?
Or… has the “unpleasant gaze” the cheetah mentioned already quietly arrived?
No one knew.
The morning confusion was interrupted by a knocking sound. The innkeeper, the taciturn Old Wizard, stood at the door holding a wooden tray with a steaming bowl, appearing similar to corn mush, alongside a few pieces of baked bread and a pot of tea with a peculiar aroma.
“Breakfast.” The owner said concisely, handing over the tray. Despite being such a place, it unexpectedly provided breakfast, which was quite considerate service.
“Thank you.” Ian took the tray, taking the opportunity to casually ask, “Boss, recently around here… has anything special happened?”
“I’m new here, trying to learn more about the local customs.” Ian covered up his true intention a bit – he was actually trying to find out if there were any strange occurrences.
Just like in Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, before the twilight of the Gods or impending disaster, there are always some unusual events happening in advance, unnoticed by the populace but discernible to him.
After seeing so much, now that he had more contact with these, and experienced more, it had nurtured a very good and rich judgmental mind for Ian.
Simply put, his super wisdom that he always prided himself on had become even more super. Of course, perhaps most Hogwarts students wouldn’t understand this point.
And that’s normal.
After all, surpassing the times by a step is genius, surpassing by many times is just an eccentric that ordinary people can’t understand. Who said this is unknown but it’s very logical.
“Hmm?”
The innkeeper raised his murky eyes, glanced at Ian as if judging his intent, then answered slowly, “Do you want to know something special?”
“Let me think a bit.”
“The Centaur Tribe has been quite restless lately, having several disputes with the River Spirit Tribe to the east over a few hunting grounds, causing quite a disturbance, and it might last a long time.”
“Of course, for you outsiders, it might count as special, you can watch them fight from afar, but for us, it has become habitual.”
“Just be careful not to interact with those mongrels.”
“Also, Old Babu’s warthog at the market’s southern end was bitten dead by something a few nights ago, its blood drained, causing panic with people worrying about vampires.”
“In the end, it turned out his son had brought back a giant vampire bat, a false alarm—well, this place isn’t exactly big.”
“There shouldn’t be any other special events.” Despite seeming like someone who dislikes speaking, the innkeeper answered in detail after Ian’s inquiry.
Perhaps cold on the outside and warm on the inside.
The fact that he prepared breakfast for guests reveals some insight. Nowadays, it isn’t exactly the era of competitive service; most inns generally don’t provide breakfast.
